Liem Quang Le wins 55th Biel GMT, Gukesh third

D Gukesh lost his final round game against the UAE no.1 Salem Saleh. Liem Quang Le drew with Andrey Esipenko to win 55th Biel Chess Festival GMT (Grandmaster Triathlon) 35.5/56. Esipenko finished second 32.5/37 and Gukesh third 29.5/37. The fourth-youngest to cross 2700 certainly delivered an impressive performance. He might look visibly upset on the podium, however he has etched his name in history by becoming the youngest Indian to cross, 2700 in the live ratings. IM Prraneeth Vuppala earned his second GM-norn. He needs one more GM-norm and cross the rating barrier to become India's next GM. 14-year-old Manmay Chopra won the ATO (Amateur Tournament). He did it at the age of just 16 years making him the fourth youngest player in the history of chess to achieve this feat (after Wei Yi, Carlsen and Firouzja). Vrashank Chouhan and Rakshitta Ravi win the MPL 51st National Junior Open and Girls Championships

Vrashank Chouhan (Rajasthan) and WIM Rakshitta Ravi (Tamil Nadu) clinched the first place in the MPL 51st National Juniors U-19 2022. Vignesh B and Arun Kataria tied for second place with 8.5/11, but Vignesh took the second spot due to better tiebreaks. The top 2 seeds of the open section, IM Raahul VS and IM Avinash Ramesh both had dismal events, and finished with 4.5/11 and 5/11. In the Girl's section, top seed WIM Rakshitta Ravi went undefeated throughout the whole event, scoring 9.5/11. WIM Bommini Mounika Akshaya and WFM Bhagyashree Patil finished a full point behind with 8.5/11, Bommini claimed the second spot due to better tiebreaks. The five-time world champion, Vishy Anand has returned to Dortmund. He started his defense of NC World Masters champion title which he won last year by defeating the Vladimir Kramnik. The 14th world champion had to pull out due to some health issues. Anand joined the event from the second round where he drew with the English legend, Michael Adams. The other two participants are European Team Champion for Germany in 2011, GM FST Daniel Fridman. The fourth participant is the youngest in the event, Germany no.4 and Runner-up in Deutschland Grand Prix 2021, GM Dmitrij Kollars. Vishy Anand is still in the sole lead 2.5/4. Thej Kumar, Stany, Girish and Viani relay the Chess Olympiad Torch in Karnataka

Karnataka's first and India's 50th Grandmaster Thej Kumar M S, the state's second and third GMs Stany G A and Girish Koushik along with Arjuna Awardee and the state's first IM D V Prasad, IM Viani Antonio D'cunha relayed the Chess Olympiad Torch in Bengaluru and Mangaluru. The veteran and much accomplished FIDE Trainer, D V Prasad became an International Master when Thej was a toddler in 1986 and the rest of the GMs were yet to be born. His win against Mikhail Tal is certainly iconic. Thej, Stany and Girish has won lots of tournaments all over the country and the world. The Torch went to Lakshadweep from Karnataka. Vishy Anand gains sole lead at NC World Masters 2022

Vishy Anand played the first round game against Dmitrij Kollars on the rest day of the NC World Masters. It could not take place on the scheduled day because of Vladimir Kramnik's illness. Viswanathan Anand goes into his last game with a half-point lead over direct opponent Michael Adams and Dmitrij Kollars at the No-Castling World Masters in Dortmund. His game against Michael Adams today will determine who wins the championship!

55th Biel MTO R8: Pranav Anand scores his final GM-norm with a round to spare

IM Pranav Anand drew with Spain no.6, GM Eduardo Iturrizaga Bonelli at 55th Biel Chess Festival 2022 MTO. His live rating is now 2491 which means he is just nine Elo rating points away from becoming India's next GM. The 15-year-old from Karnataka will face GM Yu Yangyi (CHN) in the final round. GM Visakh N R drew with GM Kirill Alekseenko. Visakh had a few chances in the endgame, however things did not materialize in his favor. GM D Gukesh drew with GM Gata Kamsky (USA). Harika, Arjun Erigaisi, Lalit, Rithvik and Rahul relay the Chess Olympiad Torch at Telangana and Andhra Pradesh

India's second woman ever to become a Grandmaster, Harika Dronavalli along with GMs Arjun Erigaisi, Raja Rithvik R and Rahul Srivasthav P attended the Torch Relay ceremony at Hyderabad, Telangana. Two of them, India's 25th GM Harika and 54th GM Arjun will be a part of India-1 team at the upcoming 44th Chess Olympiad in Open and Women section respectively. We all wish them to add more accolades at the upcoming Olympiad. The 26th GM of the country, Lalit Rohit relayed the Torch at Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam. NC World Masters 2022 R3: Vishy Anand beats Daniel Fridman with 6.Ke2

Yes, Vishy Anand really played 6.Ke2 against GM Daniel Fridman. It was in a chess variant where castling is prohibited, thus 6.Ke2 is absolutely sensible move in that particular position because you have to do something with the king for its safety. Things eventually worked out in the favor of the maestro as he went on to beat the Germany no.10. He is now tied with Michael Adams at the top with 1.5 points each, after Germany no.4 Dmitrij Kollars beat the English legend. Today Anand will play against Dmitrij Kollars, the first round game which was postponed due to Kramnik falling ill. 55th Biel GMT R5: Gukesh beats Keymer five times in-a-row in ten days

D Gukesh has won all five games against Vincent Keymer at 55th Biel Chess Festival. First he defeated the Germany no.1 in Chess960 then Rapid, next twice in Blitz and now in their Classical encounter too. All of these happened within a span of ten days. Gukesh is now at 28/48, just two points behind the tournament leader, Liem Quang Le 30/48. The youngest Indian to reach 2700, is closely followed by Andrey Esipenko 27/48 and Nodirbek Abdusattorov 26.5/48. Aryan Chopra lost the game and lead to Kirill Alekseenko. The girl who broke all the barriers: Judit Polgar, the Queen of Chess

In the third episode of the series "Olympiad stories with Saravanan", IM Sagar Shah and IM Venkata Saravanan discuss Judit Polgar's flabbergasting 12.5/13 performance in the 1988 Thessolanki Olympiad. Judit was rated 2365 FIDE at the time, with rating lists coming out every six months. Not only did Hungary sweep the championship to take gold and defeat the all-powerful soviet chess team, but Judit made an incredible 2694 performance, and she was barely twelve years old. Breaking news: Magnus Carlsen will not defend his World Championship in 2023

The five-time world champion has finally ended the speculation on Intenational Chess Day. The world no.1 mentioned in the new podcast, 'The Magnus Effect' with his best buddy, Magnus Barstad, that he will not defend his world championship in 2023. This does not mean that he is leaving chess or will never a play a world championship ever again. It just means, as of now, he will not defend his current world championship title. P Shyam Nikhil clinches 7th Noisiel Open, Vignesh second and Karthik third

IM P Shyam Nikhil scored an unbeaten 7.5/9 to win 7th Noisiel International Open. He finished a half point ahead of the competition. IM Vignesh N R and GM Karthik Venkataraman scored 7/9 each. They were placed second and third according to tie-breaks. Total prize fund of the tournament was €44000. Top three prizes were €1200 and trophy, €800 and €600 each. 11-year-old Aditya Kunal Patil won the Open C (Below 1600) category, scoring 7/9. He remained undefeated and finished a half point ahead of the field. The kid received €250 as his first prize.
