Team India won a historic Gold in the FIDE Online Olympiad on 30th August 2020. Little did anyone could have fathomed that Team India's quest for Gold would not end on the very same day. Receiving and sending the medals to all players was a challenge the Vice-Captain of the Indian team, GM Srinath Narayanan was up for. He had endured electricity, internet connectivity, team management and various other stuff so this one also he handled very nicely. Srinath kept mentioning that receiving the Gold medals as soon as possible and dispatching it to the players to make sure they receive them quickly was always the priority. Leon Mendonca wins Kumánia Championship

IM Leon Mendonca won his second tournament in Hungary in two weeks as he scored an unbeaten 9.0/11 to win Kumánia Championship. Two weeks ago Leon won First Saturday GM November. The tournament was only an IM-norm event, so Leon's search for the final GM-norm to become India's 67th GM is still on. We hope he becomes one before the year concludes. He is also the brand ambassador of Geno and Microsense for a reason. Wesley So wins Champions Chess Tour Skilling Open

Last year on 2nd November So beat Carlsen to become the first ever Fischer Random Official World Champion. This year on 30th November, So beat Carlsen again and this time win the first tournament of Champions Chess Tour - Skilling Open by beating the World Champion in the Finals and advancing to the Finals of the Tour. Despite starting the day with a loss, So immediately struck back by winning the following Rapid game. He drew the next two Rapid games, won the first Blitz game and drew the second to clinch the championship. Fun fact: So beat Carlsen three times in the Finals with white pieces and all those victories were in endgames. Photo: chess24

Can Carlsen win Skilling Open on his 30th birthday?

For the first time in Skilling Open knockout stage, all four games had a decisive result. Both Carlsen and So played in a humane way, full of blunders and errors. Although it was the world champion who made more errors and he really needs to get his form back if he wants to win the tournament on his 30th birthday. The Fischer Random Official world champion made less blunders and more of positional mistakes. It will definitely be an interesting battle on the final day of Skilling Open. Mitrabha Guha dominates 16th Maheshwaranand Saraswati Memorial Online Blitz Open

IM Mitrabha Guha won his second tournament organized by Buddhibal Kreeda Trust within six months when he remained undefeated by scoring 8.5/9 to win 16th Maheshwaranand Saraswati Memorial Online Blitz Open. He received a shining trophy and ₹15000 cash for his efforts. FM Pranav Anand and GM Jakhongir Vakhidov finished with 7.5/9. They were placed second and third respectively according to their tie-break scores. They won ₹10000 and ₹7000 cash respectively. For the first time in Playchess, we made it mandatory for all players to be on video call throughout the event, screen sharing and pairings being displayed on chess-results.

Skilling Open SF Day 2: So sets up a clash with Carlsen in the Finals

Nepomniachtchi and Nakamura couldn't replicate their Quarter-Final comebacks and crashed out of the Champions Chess Tour Skilling Open. Although Nepomniachtchi started the day with a win over Carlsen, he couldn't continue the momentum as he lost the second game immediately. Meanwhile, Nakamura was completely lost in the first two games and somehow managed to salvage a draw in both of them. Carlsen and So had no trouble in making a draw in their last two games. Carlsen and So will face each other in the finals for the first time since they faced each other at Saint Louis Rapid and Blitz Online 2020 where they became co-champions over two months ago. FIDE Online Olympiad for PWD R7: India 2 finishes ahead of India 1

India 1's campaign came to an end after they suffered a loss by narrow margin against Russia 2 in the seventh and final round of the Swiss league stage in FIDE Online Olympiad for People with Disabilities. India 1 finished 18th, thus their Semi-final hopes dashed. India 2 finished ahead of India 1 at 13th position by beating Romania 1 with a score of 2.5-1.5. India 3 beat Mali by 3-1 and India 4 lost to Russia 3 by 1-3. Nepomniachtchi and Nakamura have the mammoth task of winning the day 2 of the Semi-final in Champions Chess Tour Skilling Open. They have already done it in the Quarter-Finals and they have to do it again to keep their chances alive to advance to the Finals. Carlsen won the first game but in the next two games, he seemed to be out of his element, so much so that Nepomniachtchi was winning against him in both of those in the endgame. Nakamura needs to play more true to his style, because we witnessed what So can do if you give him leeway to attack and take control. India 1 bounced back strong and beat Chile by a narrow margin of 2.5-1.5 in Round 6 of FIDE Online Olympiad for People with Disabilities. India 2 beat Kazakhstan by 3-1 and India 3 lost their second match of the tournament, this time against Turkey 1 by 1.5-2.5. India 4 scored a victory again, this time against Romania 2 by 2.5-1.5. During the game, Malika Handa mistakenly pressed 'Resign' button instead of 'Draw Offer', his opponent accepted the game to be continued and the Chief Arbiter allowed. India 1 still has some mathematical chances to advance to the Semi-Finals, however for that to happen, a lot of results need to go in India 1's favor. Today Friday 27th November, India 1 will face Russia 2 in Round 7 which is the final round of the Swiss League stage starting from 7:30 p.m. IST. Skilling Open QF Day 2: Nepomniachtchi, So and Nakamura make epic comebacks

Nepomniachtchi, So and Nakamura defied all odds and won against their respective opponents to advance to the Semi-Finals of Champions Chess Tour Skilling Open. All three needed to win the Rapid mini-matches on the second day of the Quarter-Finals and they did. Nakamura did it in a brilliant fashion as he just won in three matches against Vachier-Lagrave. So drew with Radjabov in the Armageddon in a completely winning position as draw was enough for him to advance. Nepomniachtchi completely dominated Aronian in Blitz. Giri drew all four games in the Rapid to get eliminated by Carlsen. Semi-Finals starts tonight from 10:30 p.m. IST. India 1 had a tough time against Poland 2 in Round 5 of FIDE Online Olympiad for People with Disabilities. Both Shashikant and Naveen had no chance against their respective opponents. Kishan scored the only draw for the team to avoid a whitewash. Jennitha got a winning position but she was unable to convert it into a victory. India 2 defeated Mongolia by 3-1, India 3 went down against Romania 1 by 3-1 and India 4 lost to Colombia by 1.5-2.5. India 1 needs to win the last two rounds of the preliminary stage by maximum margin to have a chance to advance to the Semi-Finals. Skilling Open QF Day 1: Advantage Carlsen, Aronian, Radjabov and MVL

Carlsen had a shaky start in the first game against Giri. However the psychological edge once again paid off as Giri was unable to capitalize on the advantage. After two quiet draws, the fourth game was also on the verge of another draw but Giri made a questionable decision to double his pawns and lost the game. Radjabov played fantastic against So as he needed only three games to best the Fischer-Random world champion on the first day of the Quarter-Final in Champions Chess Tour Skilling Open. Aronian and Vachier-Lagrave won their day 1 encounter against Nepomniachtchi and Nakamura respectively. Giri, So, Nepomniachtchi and Nakamura are in a must-win situation.
