Deep Sengupta relays the Chess Olympiad Torch from Dharamshala to Amritsar

The 22nd Grandmaster of India, Deep Sengupta, carried the Chess Olympiad Torch for two days. The three-times Hastings Masters winner travelled to five different cities. First he went to Dharamshala and Shimla in the state of Himachal Pradesh on Wednesday 22nd June. On the following day, 23rd June, he travelled to Chandigarh, Patiala and finally Amritsar at Attari Border, Wagah where he handed the Torch to Deputy Commissioner of Amritsar, Harpreet Singh Sudan, IAS. India wins 29 medals at Western Asia Youth Chess Championships 2022

India has won a total of 29 medals including 13 Gold, 10 Silver and 6 Bronze medals at Western Asia Youth Chess Championships 2022. Sahib Singh and Safin Safarullakhan won three Golds in all three formats - Classical, Rapid and Blitz in Under-14 Open and Under-8 Open categories each respectively. FM Harshad S won two Golds in Rapid and Blitz, a Bronze in Under-18 Open Classical. Reigning National Under-12 Open and Under-18 Girls champions, Goutham Krishna H and WFM Bhagyashree Patil won two Gold medals each. Hanya Shah won Gold, Silver and Bronze. Current National Under-12 Girls and National Amateur U-2000 Women champion, Shubhi Gupta won three Silver medals.

Candidates 2022 R6: Nepomniachtchi becomes 'The Shark'

It seems like Ian Nepomniachtchi took Carlsen's words, "Be a Shark!" seriously. He took his typical bold approach towards his sixth round game and won it convincingly. His opponent Duda could not manage to put up any resistance. Radjabov and Rapport had an interesting encounter. Just when it looked like Radjabov will end his Classical win drought, he missed his opportunity and the game ended in a draw. Nakamura launched a strong attack on Ding Liren's kingside. However, the World no.2 calmly defended his position without breaking a sweat. Firouzja imploded against Caruana. Today is a rest day. Pravin Thipsay brings the Chess Olympiad Torch from Srinagar to Jammu

The third Grandmaster in the Indian chess history is Pravin Thipsay. He is the first Indian to get a GM-norm. The Arjuna Awardee has won seven National titles and represented India at the Chess Olympiad for seven times. The revered coach and gentleman of the game has trained countless players who have won numerous medals for India. He is one of the few FIDE Senior Trainers in this country. Apart from inculcating knowledge and improving the strength of young talents, he also devotes his valuable time in creating trainers all over the country. Hikaru Nakamura might not have been completely winning against Ian Nepomniachtchi. However, if anyone got remotely close to upstaging the former World Championship Challenger, that would be the Speed King. The American later expressed regret in his analysis of not seizing his opportunity at the right moment. Fabiano Caruana had an interesting draw with Richard Rapport. Just when it seemed like there will be a decisive result, the game ended in a draw by repetition. 13th Chennai GM Open R4-6: Nitin emerges sole leader scoring a double hat-trick

IM Nitin S is in a fantastic form. He defeated GM Vahe Baghdasaryan (ARM) in the sixth round to become the sole leader 6/6 at 13th Chennai GM Open 2022. In the seventh round, he will face Vignesh B in an interesting battle between two in-form players. He is also having a great event 5.5/6. The 17-year-old drew with GM Alexei Fedorov, defeated GM Nguyen Van Huy (VIE), GM Laxman R R and IM Srijit Paul in consecutive games. Boris Savchenko is the only other player at 5.5/6. Mitrabha Guha wins Olympiad Torch Run Open Rapid Chess Tournament 2022

GM Mitrabha Guha along with five more players scored an unbeaten 7/7. Mitrabha won the Olympiad Torch Run Open Rapid Chess Tournament 2022 due to better tie-breaks. IM Dinesh Kumar Sharma and reigning Asian Junior Open Gold medalist, IM Raahul V S were adjudged second and third respectively. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹1000000. Top three prizes were ₹100000, ₹60000 and ₹40000 cash each. About 1500 players took part in this historic event. First-ever Torch Relay for the 44th Chess Olympiad took place on the very same day. Dibyendu Barua carries the Chess Olympiad Torch from New Delhi to Leh

The second person to become a Grandmaster in Indian chess is Dibyendu Barua. He had to fight various battles from his early days. From legitimizing Chess as a sport which was plagued as a superstition of a board game to winning Individual Gold medal at Novi Sad Olympiad in 1990. He has represented India at the Olympiad for seven consecutive time. Competed with Anand side-by-side in team and also the next generation of Harikrishna, Sasikiran and others. So it was fitting that after Anand, the next person who carried the torch is none other than the Arjuna Awardee who has selflessly paved the path for future generations. Photo: AICF

Ian Nepomniachtchi is playing Candidates 2022 like a man on a mission. His objective is clear, become the Challenger for the World Championship again. He scored an emphatic victory over World no.3, Alireza Firouzja. The teenager did not respond well to his opponent's rapid attack on his kingside. He had to pay a heavy price for it. Caruana drew his third consecutive game to remain just a half point behind the leader at 2.5/4. Jan-Krzysztof Duda, Richard Rapport and Hikaru Nakamura are at 2/4 each. The first ever torch relay for Chess Olympiad took place at Indira Gandhi International Stadium, New Delhi on Sunday 19th June. Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi handed over the Chess Olympiad Torch to Vishy Anand. While the ceremony was an inaugural event, the entire chess universe knows that the maestro Vishy Anand has been carrying the torch for Indian chess for a long time and the chess universe certainly wants him to continue doing so. 13th Chennai GM Open R1-3: Daksh Goyal destroys Duc Hoa

13-year-old Daksh Goyal stunned GM Nguyen Duc Hoa (VIE) in the third round of 13th Chennai GM International Open 2022. The Vietnamese GM's adventurous expedition of his king turned out to be perilous. The teenager precisely punished his opponent for the incorrect displacement of his king. Local players Vignesh B and Prasannaa S held GM Alexei Fedorov and GM Deepan Chakkravarthy to a draw each respectively. Alireza Firouzja played only one tournament this year before the Candidates. It was clear that he was preparing for his golden opportunity. He got to show his full scale preparation against Nakamura in the third round. He blitzed out the first 25 moves and gained almost 80+ minutes advantage on the clock. The American is not the one who gets rattled easily. Being a sharp tactician and good with low time on the clock, he managed to real danger his opponent posed. Magnus Carlsen may not think Hikaru Nakamura has a good chance of winning the tournament. However, the Speed King does not believe in a crawling comeback. He struck back immediately in the second game against Radjabov. The American may not have played a lot of over-the-board tournament games recently, however he has played a lot of online events which certainly helped him in grinding the endgame.
