Serbia Open 2022 R1: Arpita and Kashish score big wins

Serbia Open 2022 witnesses the participation of 393 players, combining both Masters and Amateur section. A total of 78 Indians are taking part in this event. B Adhiban is the highest rated Indian in the field. 12 players are rated 2600 and above. 38 GMs, 68 IMs, 6 WGMs and 13 IMs are taking part. The average rating of the tournament is 2319. That should give you a good idea about the strength of the tournament. Vantika Agrawal carries the Chess Olympiad Torch from Taj Mahal to Varanasi with Tejas Bakre

The 21st Woman Grandmaster of India, Vantika Agrawal received the Chess Olympiad Torch from India's 11th GM Tejas Bakre in front of the Taj Mahal at Agra. They both brought the Torch to Green Park Stadium, Kanpur. Five-time World Champion Vishy Anand arrived at Lucknow Vidhan Sabha. On the ninth day, Vantika carried the Torch to Allahabad Museum, Prayagraj and Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapith, Varanasi. Vantika has won several Silver medals at Asian Youth events. Last year in August she earned her WGM title. She also won the National Women Online championship for the very first time in 2021, after winning FIDE Binance Business Schools Super Cup in the previous month. Photo: AICF

Cemil Can Ali clinches 15th Teplice Open 2022, S L Narayanan second

GM Cemil Can Ali Marandi scored an unbeaten 7.5/9 to win 15th Teplice Open 2022. He finished a half point ahead of the field. Thus, he earned an extra 5000 CZK. In total the Turk won 55000 CZK. Seven players scored 7/9. GM S L Narayanan and GM Iniyan P were placed second and eighth according to tie-breaks. They won 35000 and 6000 CZK each respectively. Both of them gained 1.6 and 8.7 Elo rating points each. GM Sankalp Gupta was the only other Indian to finish in top 15. He scored 6.5/9. Candidates 2022 R9: A day of firsts

Hikaru Nakamura is the first player in the Candidates to play the tournament and then upload the analysis of his game immediately after its conclusion. It was bound to take a toll on him eventually. The tournament situation also prompted the Speed King to take a chance, as later it might become too little too late. It did not pay off. Radjabov scored his first win of the event and also the first Classical win since October 2019. Firouzja and Ding Liren were the other two victors of the round. They also scored their first win of the Candidates 2022. Nepomniachtchi maintained his lead after Caruana could not extract anything out of Petroff. IM Nubairshah Shaikh wins the Silver Lake Open

Playing Chess at the top level is a very hectic affair. You have to prepare for your opponents, pick the right tournaments, pick the right coach, etc. But what if you were also doing a job as a Civil engineer while playing Chess? That is exactly what IM Mohammed Nubairshah Shaikh is doing, and he won the Silver Lake Open A! He scored a fantastic 7/9 to clinch the first position, getting a beautiful trophy, a gold medal, and a cash prize of RSD 1,10,000( Rs. 77,605). Municipality Veliko Gradiste, Chess Club VGSK, Chess Federation of Central Serbia, and Danubia Hotels organized the Chess Festival “Silver Lake 2022″ under the aegis of the International Chess Federation between 19 to 26 June 2022.

Boris Savchenko wins 13th Chennai GM Open 2022, Nitin second

IM Nitin Senthilvel drew his final round game against GM Alexei Fedorov. It should have been enough for Nitin to become champion, if IM Aronyak Ghosh drew with GM Boris Savchenko. No one could have predicted that Boris will win such a difficult endgame against Aronyak. Alexei and IM Srihari L R scored 8/10 each. They were placed third and fourth respectively. IM Siddharth Ravichandran, IM Aronyak, GM Deepan Chakkravarthy and IM Himal Gusain are the remaining Indians to finish in top 10. Deepan survived a big scare against Kunal M in the penultimate round. Candidates 2022 R8: Nakamura wins a positional masterpiece

Hikaru Nakamura is a professional chess streamer currently signed with Misfits Gaming. However, one must not forget that he is also a world-class player. It is safe to say that he has played and analyzed more games of his in this year than the remaining players of the event. While Caruana might have seemed to be invincible, the Speed King showed that his tactical prowess is not the sole strength in his arsenal. He can very much outclass anyone in a positional duel too. Nepomniachtchi is still in the lead 6/8, followed by Caruana 5/8 and Nakamura 4.5/8. Richard Rapport scored the only other win of the round against Duda. Just like any other sport. Chess is highly competitive and it will test your mental toughness to the limit. Day in and day out you have to learn the art of dealing with extreme mental pressure and the more you become good at it, the better player you become. No matter how well prepared are you in the game, you will also need mental training to handle tense situations. You will meet players who will tell you that the position in their game was winning but they could not convert it. The reason may be sole because the opponent handled the situation in a better way. Tejas Bakre and Akash Ganesan relay the Chess Olympiad Torch from Dehradun to Meerut

The 11th Grandmaster of India, Tejas Bakre and the 66th GM of the country, Akash Ganesan relayed the Chess Olympiad Torch from Dehradun, Uttarakhand to Meerut, Uttar Pradesh. Tejas is the first GM from Gujarat. He is also one of the few FIDE Senior Trainers of India. He won a strong tournament in Montreal, Quebec, Canada in 2017. Akash is the youngest National Senior champion of India. He won it at the age of 16 years. The Tamil Nadu GM is also a FIDE Trainer. He has won strong open tournaments in Austria and Prague International Chess Festival Open 2020 in Prague, Czech Republic. They both carried the Chess Olympiad Torch at Dehradun, Haridwar and Meerut. Manigandan triumphs at 31st CUSAT Rating Open Chess Tournament 2022

Starting out as the top seed, Manigandan S S scored an unbeaten 7.5/8. He finished a half point ahead of the field to win 31st CUSAT Rating Open 2022. Four players scored 7/8 each. They are - Arpith S Bijoy, Goutham Krishna H, Mithun Anand V and Abdallah M Nistar. 13-year-old Arpith and the reigning National Under-12 Open champion, Goutham were placed second and third respectively according to tie-breaks. Total prize fund of the tournament was ₹300000. Top three prizes were ₹30000, ₹25000 and ₹20000 along with a trophy each. The tournament was held between 26th and 29th May 2022 at CUSAT Campus. Candidates 2022 R7: Fabulous Fabiano showcases fantastic technique

Fabiano Caruana is a thinking man's favorite to win Candidates 2022 for many reasons. If someone is not able to find any, they need to take a look at his seventh round win against Teimour Radjabov. He got an advantage, ensured his opponent does not get any opportunity to make a comeback. Then in time trouble, he showed a fantastic technique to win the game. Ian Nepomniachtchi won the other decisive game of the round without breaking much of a sweat. Himanshu Sharma passes the Chess Olympiad Torch to Prithu Gupta

The 47th Grandmaster of India, Himanshu Sharma, received the Chess Olympiad Torch at Brahm Sarovar, Kurukshetra. The man who has won various rating tournaments all over the country, brought the Torch to Panipat Museum at Panipat. Himanshu has a fantastic understanding of chess. He won a Fischer Random tournament in 2017 before winning the 50th Barbera del Valles GM Open. Haryana's first GM won that event before becoming a GM and finished ahead of many. India's 64th GM Prithu Gupta received the Torch at Shiv Nadar School, Gurugram. The 18-year-old became a GM in six years after he got his FIDE rating. Photo: AICF

Pranav Venkatesh earns his second GM-norm with a 3175 performance

The chess universe is well-acquainted with the strength of IM Pranav Venkatesh. He earned his second GM-norm by scoring seven consecutive victories at Vezerkepzo GM June 2022 with a rating performance of 3175. He also crossed 2500 in the live ratings in the process. The 15-year-old from Tamil Nadu did not slow down, instead he won his eighth round game too against strong Czech Republic no.8, GM Vojtech Plat. The teenager only drew his last round game to end the event with a score of 8.5/9. He finished a massive 1.5 points ahead of the field. This is his fourth tournament victory of the year. 13th Chennai GM Open R7-8: Nitin stays a full point ahead

IM Nitin S continues his amazing run. He registered his seventh consecutive victory by halting Vignesh B's unbeaten streak. Nitin drew the following game against GM Boris Savchenko, although he had a good opportunity in the endgame. Nitin is currently a full point ahead of the field 7.5/8 at 13th Chennai GM Open. Nine players are at 6.5/8 each. Prasannaa S is the sole untitled player among them. He will face the top seed in the penultimate round. How is she preparing for the event? What are her thoughts on Team India's chances in the Olympiad? How is she managing all the different activities?
