Vantika Agrawal is the top seed at MPL 48th National Women Chess Championship 2022

MPL 48th National Women Chess Championship starts today at Sanjay Ghodawat University in Kolhapur, Maharashtra. For the first time since 2019, it will be a full-fledged event, which means there will be 11 rounds instead of 9 like the previous edition held earlier this year. The time control is also back to 90 minutes for 40 moves followed by 30 minutes + 30 seconds increment from move no.1. The total prize fund has been increased by ₹500000, each prize got increased by ₹50000. WGM Vantika Agrawal is the top seed of the tournament, The defending champion, WGM Divya Deshmukh is the second seed and former National Women's champion, IM Soumya Swaminathan will be third seed. Divya set to defend her crown

The total prize fund is ₹3000000. Top three prizes are ₹600000, ₹500000 and ₹400000.

The Press Conference and official logo launch Ceremony happened on 22nd December 2022 at Sanjay Ghodawat University for the MPL 48th National Women Chess Championship 2022. Girish Chitale, Vice President, MCA, Niranjan Godbole, Hon. Secretary, MCA, Dr. Arun Patil, Sanjay Ghodawat University, Vice Chancellor, Vinayak Bhosle, Trustee – SGU, Virat Giri, Principal – SGU Polytechnic, IA Bharat Chougule, Manish Marulkar, Aarti Modi and Dheeraj Vaidya from Chess Association Kolhapur, Sandeep Patil from SGU and WIM Rucha Pujari were present at the Press Conference.

MPL 48th National Women Chess Championship 2022 will take place from 26th December 2022 to 5th January 2023. All round starts at 11:30 a.m. except final round on 5th January which starts at 9:30 a.m. The tournament is being organized by Chess Association Kolhapur.
