Nodirbek Abdusattorov wins 8th Gashimov Memorial 2022 with five rounds to spare
What is the true sign of a champion? How you get back up from a forgettable event. The reigning World Rapid champion, Nodirbek Abdusattorov (UZB) did just that. After a disappointing performance at the Tata Steel Chess India 2022 Rapid and Blitz, the 18-year-old regrouped himself and delivered a strong performance with an exact same format at the 8th Gashimov Memorial 2022. He scored 25.5/36 and won the tournament with five rounds to spare. That is undoubtedly a remarkable performance and a much needed one for him, just two days before he starts his World title defense. He has already had a fantastic year by winning Gold at the 44th Chess Olympiad 2022. Will he successfully defend his World Rapid title? We will know on 28th December 2022.
