13th KIIT GM Open R2: Sarayu Velpula splits the point with GM Karthikeyan P

Former National Under-13 Girls, current Telangana State Under-19 Girls and State Women champion, Sarayu Velpula held GM Karthikeyan P to a draw. The second round of 13th KIIT International Chess Festival also saw the seeded players score victories comfortably. Newly crowned National Amateur U-2300 champion, Koustav Chakraborty made things exciting against IM Mihail Nikitenko. A misjudgement in the endgame cost him the full point. 34 players are at 100% score 2/2. Today is the first of the two double rounds in this event. Round 3 starts today at 9:30 a.m. IST. Six champions crowned at MPL 9th National Amateur Chess Championship 2022

The ninth edition of MPL National Amateur Chess Championships 2022 witnessed a total participation of 440 players from 23 different states across the nation. Six new champions were crowned in six different categories. They are - Kushal O (AP) in Under-1700 Open, Prishita Gupta (DEL) in Under-1700 Women, Pradeep Tiwari (DASCB) in Under-2000 Open, Prishita Gupta (DEL) in Under-2000 Women, Koustav Chakraborty (WB) in Under-2300 Open and Shubhi Gupta (UP) in Under-2300 Women. 13th KIIT GM Open R1: 10-year-old Sathvik Adiga stuns GM Raset Ziatdinov

10-year-old 1607-rated Sathvik Adiga scored the biggest upset of the first round against GM Raset Ziatdinov (USA, 2224). The 13th edition of KIIT International Chess Festival witnesses the participation of 174 players including 11 GMs, 14 IMs, a WGM and 3 WIM in Category A from 10 countries across the world including India. The Category B (Below 1900) has a total participation of 327 players. The total prize fund of the festival is ₹25,00,000. Chessable Masters 2022 R13-15: Praggnanandhaa advances to the Quarterfinals

Praggnanandhaa swindled Vidit in a completely lost position to win the crucial game. He became the second Indian to advance to the knockout stage of a Meltwater Champions Chess Tour event. Arjun Erigaisi was the first to do so last year in June. A win in the final round of Prelims would have seen Vidit make the cut instead of his opponent. The 16-year-old defeated Abhimanyu Mishra, drew with Sam Shankland then beat his fellow countryman to setup a clash with Wei Yi in the Quarterfinals. The remaining six Quarterfinalists are - Anish Giri, Magnus Carlsen, Ding Liren, Shakhriyar Mamedyarov, David Anton Guijarro and Aryan Tari. Quarterfinals start tonight at 9:30 p.m. IST.

Superbet R&B 2022 Day 4: Vishy Anand continues his great momentum

Vishy Anand continues his fantastic form in the Blitz event of Superbet Rapid and Blitz 2022. He started the day with a defiant win over Jan-Krzysztof Duda, scored 5.0/9 to take his score to 19.0/27. Duda is trailing by 1.5 points at second place 17.5/27. He is followed by Fabiano Caruana and Levon Aronian at 17.0/27 each. Caruana scored a massive 8.0/9 to reduce the gap between him and Anand. The only two draws were against Duda and Aronian. The only two-time FIDE World Cup winner in history, also remained undefeated in the Blitz event so far. 971 players participate in MPL 10th National School Chess Championships 2022

MPL 10th National School Chess Championships 2022 witnessed a total participation of 971 players from 26 different states across the nation. Tamil Nadu dominated the medal tally by winning the maximum number of golds and total number of medals among all states across the nation. National School championship is the biggest National championship of the country in terms of total number of players participation. The tournament was organized by All Odisha Chess Association in association with Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) and Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) from 16th to 20th May 2022. Chessable Masters 2022 R9-12: Anish Giri climbs to the top

Anish Giri soared to the top of the leaderboards by winning three games and splitting the point once. He is now one of the two unbeaten players in Meltwater Champions Chess Tour Chessable Masteres so far. The other one is Ding Liren. Giri is at 24/36, followed by Carlsen 23/36, Ding Liren 22/36 and Wei Yi 20/36. Praggnanandhaa and Harikrishna are at seventh and eighth place 18/36 and 15/36 respectively. Both Pragg and Vidit had four decisive games each. Pragg's win against Jorden van Foreest is a model game on how to win when your oppponent's pieces are cramped. Vishy Anand won the Rapid event of Superbet Rapid and Blitz 2022 with a round to spare. His last round loss against Richard Rapport did not have an effect on it. Currently, Anand has a full point lead heading into the Blitz event. The maestro started the day with a win over IM David Gavrilescu (ROU), then he drew with Fabiano Caruana (USA) before suffering his first loss of the event. Anand is at 14.0/18, Rapport 13.0/18 and Duda 12.0/18. Chessable Masters 2022 R5-8: Praggnanandhaa beats Magnus Carlsen again

Exactly three months after Praggnanandhaa beat Magnus Carlsen for the very first time at Airthings Masters on 20th February 2022, he did it again in the fifth round of Meltwater Champions Chess Tour Chessable Masters. This time the world champion blundered a whole knight during the final seconds and resigned immediately in the next move. Pragg drew with Harikrishna in the next round, defeated Gawain Jones before losing to David Anton Guijarro to finish the day. Wei Yi maintained his sole lead 15.0/24. Vishy Anand continues his great momentum at Superbet Rapid and Blitz 2022. He started the day with two consecutive wins over talented Ukrainian GM Kirill Shevchenko and Levon Aronian. Anand defeated Aronian in just 24 moves with some sharp play. His tactical alertness combined with sound play ensured he is still at the top of the points table. The legend drew with the FIDE World Cup 2021 winner, Jan-Krzysztof Duda in the sixth round. Anand kept pushing till the very end, however, the Poland no.1 stood his ground. Harikrishna and Praggnanandhaa made an identical start of 5.0/12 in Meltwater Champions Chess Tour Chessable Masters 2022. Both of them scored a win each against Aryan Tari (NOR), drew two games and lost only one. Pragg drew with the current tournament leader Wei Yi in the first round. The youngster finished the day with a draw against Sweden no.1 Nils Grandelius. Vidit Gujrathi drew all four of his games. Wei Yi (CHN) is followed by three players at 8.0/12. They are - Ding Liren (CHN), Anish Giri (NED) and Magnus Carlsen (NOR). All four of them are undefeated so far. Round 5 starts tonight at 9:30 p.m. IST.

There are a lot of chess variants in the world. Fischer Random or Chess960 is undoubtedly the most popular one. Wesley So is the first official World Champion of that variant. Dynamo Chess is a chess variant which was first introduced to the public in 2015 after being in development from 2012 to 2015. Kolkata-based Realtor, Mr. Pradeep Sadani is the inventor of this chess variant. GM Dibyendu Barua made an important decision to give Dynamo's current movement, which is like a knight or a bishop at any given point of time. Our very own Editor and Senior Coordinator, Shahid Ahmed convinced the rules of the game such as castling, en passant etc. The first ever Dynamo Chess tournament takes place tomorrow, Friday 20th May 2022.

The second event of the 2022 season of Grand Chess Tour is Superbet Rapid and Blitz. Poland is the new addition to the Grand Chess Tour in this season. Vishy Anand will return to competitive tournament for the first time since December 2021. He will be joined by World Class players at the Rapid and Blitz event such as Levon Aronian, Fabiano Caruana, Wesley So, Richard Rapport, Jan-Krzysztof Duda, Anton Korobov, Radoslaw Wojtaszek, Kirill Shevchenko and 18-year-old teenager IM David Gavrilescu.
