Vidit Gujrathi and Raunak Sadhwani finish 2nd in the Fall Chess Classic

A total of 3 Indian players participated in the Fall Chess Classic, a 10-player round robin event - Vidit Gujrathi, Surya Sekhar Ganguly and Raunak Sadhwani. GM Yu Yangyi scored 6.5/9 to win the A group, while Vidit scored 6/9 to bag the 2nd position in A group. With this win, Vidit has reinstated his India no. 2 position, taking his live rating to 2730. In the B group, it was GM Aleksandr Lenderman who clinched the 1st place, and Raunak Sadhwani came in 2nd. It was a tough tournament for Surya Ganguly - he was only able to score 1 win in group A, scoring 2.5/9. The event had a total prize fund of USD 36,000. Sumer Arsh stuns Gukesh and Arjun Erigaisi in a Tandem Simul at Dreamhack Hyderabad 2022

Simultaneous exhibition gives a good opportunity for the young talented players to show their mettle against the masters. The India no.2 and 4, GM D Gukesh and GM Arjun Erigaisi took on 20 players in a Tandem Simul at Dreamhack Hyderabad 2022. 13-year-old CM Shaik Sumer Arsh (2290) managed to score the sole win against the Grandmaster duo. Md. Bashiq Imrose (1724) provided staunch resistance to draw against two of the India's bests. The newly crowned National Under-7 Open champion, Nidhish Shyamal (1335) also played well. Six-year-old Divith Reddy Adulla (1136) also impressed the world-class GMs. One thing is for sure, all 20 players left with a memory of a lifetime and a wealth of experience. Nitin and Rathanvel win D A V Krida Kendram Rapid and Blitz Rating Open 2022

IM Nitin S and FM Harsh Suresh scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 at D A V Krida Kendram Rapid Rating Open 2022. However, the former won the tournament due to better tie-breaks and the latter settled with second place. Harsh also finished third in the Blitz Rating Open, scoring 7/8. IM Ajay Krishna S was adjudged third out of the four players who finished at 8/9. IM Rathanvel V S edged past GM Laxman R R on tie-breaks to win the Blitz Rating event. Both scored 7.5/8 each and remained undefeated. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹300000, ₹200000 for Rapid and ₹100000 for Blitz comprising 195 and 144 prizes respectively. Jval Saurin Patel and Prishita Gupta win the National U-11 Championships

Jval Saurin Patel (1702, GUJ) won the National U-11 Championships held in Gurugram, Haryana! The young Gujrat lad scored 10/11 and bagged the champions trophy along with a huge prize money of Rs.80,000. In the Girls Category, It was Prishita Gupta (1556, DEL) who stood victorious with 9/11 and bagged a cash prize of Rs. 80,000. A total of 5 players tied for the 2nd place with 8.5/11. M R Lalit Babu and Abhimanyu Puranik win Chess @ Dreamhack Rapid and Blitz Open 2022

The biggest open gaming convention in India, Dreamhack Hyderabad hosted a Rapid and a Blitz Open chess tournament. GM M R Lalit Babu and GM Abhimanyu Puranik won the Rapid and Blitz event respectively. They earned ₹150000 and ₹40000 along with a trophy each respectively. The total prize fund was ₹1000000, ₹750000 for Rapid and ₹250000 for Blitz. Chess literally and figuratively was the center stage of Dreamhack Hyderabad 2022. Over 320 players including various GMs and IMs from all over the country gathered to be a part of this unique festival where the background music and noise was not a thing of a concern. Come October, come chess festivals. A far simpler version than the Global Chess Festival, a festival of chess nonetheless, is conducted by NCS Japan in Tokyo. The instructions at the start were very clear - Play chess, Between games meet people, make new friends, Widen your circles and horizons annd Enjoy the festival. Thus began the one-day tournament called Tokyo Chess Festival 2022, after two years of cancellations due to the pandemic situation. Rupam Mukherjee dominates 2nd Maa Manik Memorial Rating Open 2022

Rupam Mukherjee scored a massive 9.5/10 to win 2nd Maa Manik Memorial Rating Open 2022. He won the tournament with a round to spare. Having a score of 8.5/9 heading into the final round, the teenager was a whopping 1.5 points ahead of the field. Last round result was immaterial for his championship chances, still he went on to win the game and make a dominating finish. Abhishek Sarkar scored a sole 8/10 to finish second. Five players made 7.5/10. Out of them, 11-year-old local girl, Arshiya Das was placed third according to tie-breaks. She is also the youngest to make a top ten finish in this event. Southern Railway dominates 34th All India Railway Team Championship after 16 years

Southern Railway clinched 34th All India Inter Railways Team Chess Championship 2022. This is their first triumph at this event after 16 years. They defeated the defending champions ICF in the third round by a minimum margin of 1.5-2.5. The winner scored 10/12 without conceding a single loss as a team and finished one point ahead of the runner-up ICF 9/12. South Central Railway scored sole 8/12 to secure third position. This was ICF's shortest reign as a champion in their past five reigns, as the previous edition took place in early January this year. Dhulipalla Bala Chandra Prasad wins Leelavathi Memorial 1st Rapid Rating Open 2022

IM Dhulipalla Bala Chandra Prasad won the first online edition of Leelavathi Memorial Blitz Open in 2020. A little over two years later, the first Leelavathi Memorial Rapid Rating Open was also won by him. He remained undefeated on both occasions. Both Dhulipalla and IM Kushagra Mohan scored an identical 8/9, including seven wins and two draws. They secured the first and second place according to tie-breaks. Six players finished with 7.5/9 each. Out of them, Anustoop Biswas was adjudged third. Arpita Mukherjee wins the 1st Mystic Wealth Chess Scholarship 2022-23 of Rs.1,50,000

The 1st Mystic Wealth Chess Scholarship is instituted by Manish Dhawan, the founder-partner of Mystic Wealth investment firm. The amount of scholarship is Rs.1,50,000. Earlier in the year we put up an article for people to apply to this scholarship. A lot of players did apply. After due deliberation, the amount was awarded to WIM Arpita Mukherjee from West Bengal. Arpita is a talented 21-year-old with an Elo of 2238. Her aim in chess is to become a full-fledged GM. The main issue she faces is with regards to finances. Winning this scholarship and getting Rs.12,500 for the next 12 months is sure to ease her pressure and help her in her career.

Laura Unuk becomes the brand ambassador of Ford Slovenia

IM Laura Unuk has been the best woman of her country, Slovenia for over seven years. She has won several Slovenia girls championships - Under-10, 12, 14, 16 and 18 from 2009 to 2017. She has also won a team Gold, individual Gold (2014) and Silver (2017) at European Under-18 Girls' Team. She is also the World Youth Under-16 (2014) and Under-18 Girls (2017) champion. The brand ambassador of Ferme Fashion and Huawei Slovenia also became the brand ambassador of Ford Slovenia. She was given a brand-new custom designed Ford Puma hybrid car which she calls Pumica (Baby Puma). Divya Deshmukh clinches Gold at Asian Continental Blitz Women 2022, Mary Silver and Aravindh Bronze in Open

WGM Divya Deshmukh became the sole Indian to earn two medals at Asian Continental 2022. After securing Bronze in the Classical, she scored 7.5/9 to clinch the Gold in the Blitz Women event. Despite starting with a loss, she made 7.5/8 in the next eight games and finished a half point ahead of the field. WGM Mary Ann Gomes scored 7/9 to win secure the Silver medal. Former Asian Continental Women's champion, WGM Thi Kim Phung Vo (VIE) also finished with 7/9 to secure the Bronze medal according to tie-breaks. On 5th of November 2022, a riveting battle between 2 of India's chess superstars took place in the DreamHack festival at Hitex Exhibition Centre, Hyderabad. The India no.3 D Gukesh took on the India no.4 Arjun Erigaisi in the Deathmatch 2.0! Designed to be the ultimate challenge of skills between 2 chess players, the players had to compete in different chess variants and short time controls, with very little time in between games.
