Arpan Das dominates 1st HDCA All India Rating Open 2022

The second seed of the tournament, Arpan Das scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win 1st HDCA All India Rating Open 2022. He finished a half point ahead of the field. Top seed of the tournament, IM FT Suvrajit Saha made 8/9 to finish second. 16-year-old Ayush Jha was placed third with a score of 7.5/9. The entire top three finishers remained undefeated. Total prize fund of the tournament was ₹250000. Top three prizes were ₹50000 and a trophy, ₹30000 and ₹20000 cash respectively. Check out the champion's thoughts on his triumph and the tournament. Anurag Mhamal relays the Chess Olympiad Torch from Panaji to Bhopal

India's 48th and Goa's first GM Anurag Mhamal along with IM Bhakti Kulkarni relayed the Chess Olympiad Torch at the Panaji, Goa. Anurag was also the state's first IM. He won Gold at Asian Junior Boys 2013 Blitz, had several podium finishes in various open tournament held at Greece, Malaysia and Spain. Bhakti is a two-time National Women champion, a former Asian Women and Junior Girls Gold medalist. She has won a lot of medals for India at various levels. Last year she was instrumental in India's historic Silver medal win at World Women's Team Championship 2022. Can Aryan Chopra win Serbia Open 2022 Masters?

GM Aryan Chopra is currently at 6.5/8 heading into the final round of Serbia Open 2022 Masters. He is trailing the tournament leader IM Evgenios Ioannidis (GRE) by a half point. Serbia no.1 GM Aleksandar Indjic is also at 6.5/8. For Aryan to win the tournament, he needs to win his last round game against GM Emre Can (TUR) and Indjic needs to beat Ioannidis. That's not all, even after that, tie-breaks also need to go in his favor. GM B Adhiban, GM Harsha Bharathakoti, IM Aditya Mittal, IM Neelash Saha and IM Koustav Chatterjee are at 6/8 each. GM Aryan Chopra seized his opportunity against GM Mahammad Muradli (AZE). Aryan won a complex game to move to 6/7. He is now just a half point behind the sole leader IM Evgenios Ioannidis (GRE). They will face each other in the penultimate round of Serbia Open 2022 Masters. GM Abhimanyu Puranik did not let his advantage slip this time. He along with IM Aditya Mittal and IM Pranav Anand are at 5.5/7. Pranav scored a very nice win against GM Velimir Ivic (SRB). Candidates 2022 R14: Nepomniachtchi remains unscathed, Ding Liren second

Ian Nepomniachtchi completely decimated the field in the Candidates 2022. The last time someone won the Candidates by remaining undefeated was Vishy Anand in 2014. Nepomniachtchi played two Candidates in his career and he won both of them. His seconds were revealed in his instagram photo. They are - Peter Leko, Nikita Vitiugov and Ildar Khairullin. His timeless confidante, Vladimir Potkin and Evgeny Tomashevsky's names were also mentioned. Ding Liren defeated Nakamura to finish second 8/14. MPL Indian U-17 Championship R1-6:Daakshin Arun leads Open, Maharashtra domination in Girls

Talented north-eastern youngster CM Mayank Chakraborty (2069) defeated the top seed FM Harsh Suresh in Round 6 (2321) to climb up to the 2nd spot. Daakshin Arun(2058) defeated Kushal Jani (1787) by a cute queen sacrifice to force a checkmate. Daakshin is in the sole lead of the open event now with 5.5/6. In the women's section, Maharashtra players WFM Bhagayshree Patil and Saniya Rafique Tadavi dominate the event so far, each of them scoring 5/6 so far. Nagpur's very own titled teenager trio - WGM Divya Deshmukh, India's 65th and the state's first GM Raunak Sadhwani, India's 71st GM Sankalp Gupta relayed the Chess Olympiad Torch at the Orange city, Maharashtra. India's fourth GM Abhijit Kunte and IM Eesha Karavade carried the Torch in Pune, the city which has the highest number of titled players and GMs of the state. India's third GM Pravin Thipsay and IM Soumya Swaminathan joined GM Abhijit Kunte at the Torch Relay in Mumbai. GM Aryan Chopra made a quick draw with GM Alexander Motylev in the sixth round of Serbia Open 2022 Masters. GM Harsha Bharathakoti defeated IM Vaishali to join Aryan at 5/6. GM Adhiban lost to IM Evgenios Ioannidis (GRE) who is now the sole leader 5.5/6. Just when it seemed like 'The Beast' is reawakening, he missed a winning chance in a slightly complex position. GM Abhimanyu Puranik also missed his chance against IM Raven Sturt (USA). The former had a decisive advantage for the better part of the game. Ian Nepomniachtchi wins Candidates 2022 with a round to spare

Ian Nepomniachtchi won the FIDE Candidates 2022 with a round to spare. This is his second consecutive Candidates triumph. He drew his penultimate round game comfortably against Richard Rapport. He will face Jan-Krzysztof Duda in the final round. However, that result will be a non-factor because no one can equal Nepomniachtchi's score 9/13. Hikaru Nakamura scored the sole victory of the round. He defeated Duda to move to sole second place 7.5/13. Nakamura will face Ding Liren in the final round. A win guarantees the Speed King a sole second place, while a draw should also be enough for the same, as he has better tie-breaks. Final Round 14 starts today at 3 p.m. local time (6:30 p.m. IST). Breaking News: India will field third team in the Open section of 44th Chess Olympiad

Two months after AICF announced the biggest ever Indian squad for 44th Chess Olympiad, AICF makes another major announcement. India will have its third team in the Open section. As per the Olympiad Pairing Rules in the FIDE Handbook, if there is an odd number of participating teams, the organising federation has the right to enter a third team. Yesterday, it was announced that the Open section has 187 teams. Thus, a provision for the third team arose. The India 3 team will comprise - GM Surya Sekhar Ganguly, GM Karthikeyan Murali, GM Sethuraman S P, GM Abhijeet Gupta and GM Abhimanyu Puranik. The Captain of the team will be Tejas Bakre. GM Aryan Chopra defeated WGM Narva Mai (EST) to join Adhiban and three more players in the lead 4.5/5. IM Harshavardhan G B scored an impressive win against GM Leon Luke Mendonca. The former had to grind a position in the middlegame, until his opponent erred which he capitalized on. Among the women participants, IM Padmini Rout has made a fantastic start with an unbeaten 4/5.
