Beverly Mendonca is a chess enthusiast from Goa and well known in the chess world for her creativity. She is a FIDE rated player and chess runs in her family! She is the sister of Leon Mendonca, one of India's most talented youngsters in chess. The family has been going through a very tough time in the Covid-19 situation with Leon and Lyndon (father) stranded in Europe and Beverly and Anita (mother) at their home in Goa. In such a tense and stressful situation your creativity can go for a toss! Less than 24 hours after a fantastic day for Poland sports, Duda faced Carlsen in their rematch. Of course the rematch was according to the pairings only. Carlsen decimated Duda in just 26 moves as the Pole kept changing his plans and landed himself in deep trouble. Meanwhile Caruana also avenged his loss of the previous round against Aronian after the Armenian was unable to continue the attack which had promises to be devastating. Asian Nations Online R1-3: Indian Women have a difficult start

Indian Women's team much to everyone's dismay did not have the perfect start. They started with a whitewash against Syria 4-0, won with a minimal margin against Mongolia 2.5-1.5 and lost to a formidable opponent Iran 1.5-2.5, although India should have won against Iran as they are stronger on paper. Vaishali's fantastic victory over Sara was the only win for the team against Iran as Bhakti was unable to hold a draw and Nandhidhaa did not take the chances her opponent presented herself. Padmini started with a solid 2.5/3 and Mary Ann won the only game she played 1.0/1. Indian Women's team will resume playing the fourth round on Saturday 17th October from 11:30 a.m. IST. Jan-Krzysztof Duda ends Carlsen's 125-game unbeaten streak

Poland no.1 Jan-Krzysztof Duda ends world champion Carlsen's 125-game unbeaten streak in Round 5 of Altibox Norway Chess. Duda admitted of having the worst tournament of his life until he beat Carlsen to end Carlsen's seemingly invincible unbeaten streak. Carlsen knew it had to end at some point and he was disappointed with the way it ended which is quite obvious as the World no.1 had huge material deficit at the end of the game. Their rematch will take place within 24 hours within the conclusion of their monumental match of epic proportions. Asian Nations Online R1-3: Indian Men make a good start

Starting as the top seed in any tournament means having the proverbial target on the back. It goes without saying that expectations also become high. Team India started their Asian Online Nations Cup with a rather shaky start. They won against New Zealand and Iraq in Round 1 and 3 respectively, however they made a draw with Kyrgyzstan in Round 2 as Adhiban and Sethuraman suffered unexpected losses. Sethu's game was appealed by team India and we are awaiting the result of the fairplay committee. With Nihal Sarin yet to play in the tournament, one can only fathom that Team India will only rise up from the next round. Team India is the favorite at the Asian Online Nations Cup 2020

Fresh off the heels of winning Gold in FIDE Online Olympiad a little over a month ago, Team India will begin their campaign at Asian Online Nations Cup 2020 tomorrow, Saturday 10th October as the top seed in both Men's and Women's division. Nihal Sarin, Bhakti Kulkarni and Vaishali R are the only three players from the Gold medal winning team of Online Olympiad, will be taking part in this event. Surya Sekhar Ganguly will lead the men's team comprising of Adhiban, Nihal, Sethuraman and Sasikiran. The women's team of Vaishali, Bhakti, Padmini and Nandhidhaa will be led by Mary Ann Gomes. Altibox Norway Chess R4: Carlsen takes sole lead

World Champion Carlsen has taken the lead with 9.0/12 for the first time in Altibox Norway Chess 2020 when he beat World no.2 Caruana in Round 4. Caruana went into Carlsen's favorite territory of endgame by exchanging queens early in the game and then he was unable to defend properly which allowed the Norwegian to take the lead. Firouzja beat Aronian in the Armageddon after making a draw in their Classical encounter. This was the second consecutive Armageddon victory for the youngster. Aronian had his chances but he missed them. Meanwhile Tari beat Duda after his ambitious play almost cost him the Armageddon. Today is a rest day. Carlsen scored his first Classical victory of the tournament against his compatriot Aryan Tari. Although Carlsen presented a few opportunities to the young Norwegian but he was unable to seize it. Duda is still having a tough time as he lost once again, this time against Aronian. Despite the majority of the game being equal and heading towards a draw, the Pole no.1 erred in the endgame which cost him the point. Meanwhile, Firouzja beat Caruana in the Armageddon after making a draw in their Classical encounter. Caruana had a decent chance in the Classical game, however Firouzja was determined the must-win Armageddon and he definitely showed that he can hang with the best of the best so far. Altibox Norway Chess already started heating up as Carlsen steers clear from the jaws of defeat. Although he had a good chance to win the Classical game, it ended up in a draw which turned things in Firouzja's favor as he just needed a draw in the Armageddon to win the round. Firouzja got a winning position but he was unable to seize the brilliant opportunity and Carlsen swerved with a victory. Caruana scored second consecutive victory to take the sole lead with 6.0/6 and birthday boy Aronian won against Tari without breaking a sweat to jump to the shared second spot 4.0/6 with Firouzja.
