Priyanshu Patil wins 5th Young Masters Rapid Open 2022

Seventh seeded Priyanshu Patil tied for the first spot with the top seed FM Nikhil Dixit and 32nd seed Aditi Kayal at 5th Young Masters Rapid Open 2022. All three bagged 6 points each from the 7 rounds in the locally held city level chess event here at Pune, Maharashtra. Priyanshu finished first by virtue of a better Buchholz score, Aditi secured second on the podium while Nikhil third in the open category. It was hosted by chess mothers in celebration of Independence Day on 15th August 2022 at Joseph D'Souza Chess Academy. 22nd Dubai Open 2022 R4: Praggnanandhaa and Rinat Jumabayev are the coleaders

Praggnanandhaa continues his superb form from FTX Crypto Cup 2022. The 17-year-old defeated Aram Hakobyan (ARM) in the fourth round to share the lead with Kazakhstan no.1 Rinat Jumabayev at 22nd Dubai Open 2022. They will obviously face each other in the fifth round. The highest rated Indian player in the field, Arjun Erigaisi made a good escape against Serbia no.1 Aleksandar Indjic. Raunak Sadhwani was the other one who averted a loss against IM Aditya Samant. FM Ayush Sharma continues his great run as he defeated his second consecutive GM of the tournament, Arjun Kalyan. Mitrabha, Murali Krishnan and Koustav are the winners of 44th Olympiad Celebration Rating Open events

During the 44th Chess Olympiad, four Olympiad Celebration Rating Open tournaments took place. Two Blitz events were won by GM Mitrabha Guha, IM B T Murali Krishnan won the Classical one and IM Koustav Chatterjee won the Rapid event. A total of 986 players, 235 in 1st Blitz, 284 in Classical, 239 in Rapid and 228 in 2nd Blitz Open took part from various parts of the country, Bangladesh, Norway, Uruguay and USA. A total of ₹1300000 prize fund was distributed combining all four events. Mitrabha alone won ₹97000 cash and a trophy, he also increased his Blitz Rating by 24.4 points. 22nd Dubai Open 2022 R3: Vignesh holds Predke to a draw, Arjun Erigaisi now World no.20

GM Arjun Erigaisi had already become India no.2 in Round 2 of 22nd Dubai Open 2022. A win against India's 70th GM Raja Rithvik R made him now World no.20. IM Vignesh N R held the top seed of the tournament, GM Alexandr Predke to a draw. Eight players including three Indians - GM Arjun Erigaisi, GM Praggnanandhaa and GM Sahaj Grover are at 3/3. FM Suyog Wagh and FM Kashish Manoj Jain had good chances against GM Aram Hakobyan (ARM) and GM Mahammad Muradli (AZE). GM Iniyan P's tough form continues as he lost to IM Viani Antonio Dcunha. The Ukrainian women's team achieved something truly spectacular when they won the gold medal in the women's section at the Chess Olympiad 2022. We speak to boards 1 and 2 of the team and two of the best chess players in the country for several years now - Mariya and Anna Muzychuk. They speak about their experience of playing in India, how tough it was to win the Olympiad, and also show us the critical moments in their games. IM Ernesto J Fernandez Guillen (CUB) scored 7.5/9 to win 4th Sant Adria International Open 2022. He finished a half point ahead of the field. Anustoop Biswas scored 7/9 to finish second. He finished a full point ahead of the rest. FM Mike Ivanov (CAN) not going for a threefold repetition against the eventual runner-up, Anustoop, in the final round proved costly. Had he drawn it, he would have finished second. The loss put him in the third place. The total prize fund of the tournament was €3030. One of the latest IMs of India, Rohith Krishna S defeated Australia no.2 GM Temur Kuybokarov in Round 2 of 22nd Dubai Open 2022. FM Kashish Manoj Jain, FM Suyog Wagh and Ritviz Parab defeated IM Prraneeth Vuppala, IM Benjamin Haldorsen (NOR) and IM Tahbaz Arash (IRI) respectively. GM Iniyan P once again managed to escape from a difficult position. IM Raahil Mullick had a good opportunity against him. 29 players have made a perfect start 2/2. 52-year-old Harminder Singh wins Below 1600 Rating at Udaipur

52-year-old Harminder Singh scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win Below 1600 Rating tournament. He finished a half point ahead of the field. The event was held in memory of Late Mr. Ramesh Chandra Sharma. Four players scored 8/9 each. Vaishant Kumar Gangwani and Abhinav Chauhan were placed second and third according to tie-breaks. Total prize fund of the tournament was ₹1100000. Top three prizes were ₹111000, ₹71000 and ₹41000 along with a trophy each. The tournament was held between 19th and 21st August 2022 at Udaipur, Rajasthan. The 22nd edition of Dubai Open is finally back after over three year-long hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic. A total of 163 players including 78 Indians are taking part which makes it almost 50% players are Indians. Arjun Erigaisi is the highest rated Indian in the field. Praggnanandhaa is playing his first over-the-board since winning a double Bronze at the 44th Chess Olympiad. He would certainly like to continue his good form from the FTX Crypto Cup 2022. 15 players are rated above 2600. 29 GMs, 29 IMs, 2 WGMs and 3 WIMs are taking part. Savitha Shri Baskar: The next big name in Women chess

While the entire focus of India and the world is on the Chess Olympiad 2022, something truly unbelievable is happening in Indian women's chess in Europe! 15-year-old Savitha Shri (born in 2007) is raking in one win after another and has climbed up from 2230 to 2439 on the rating list. She will become India no.4 behind Humpy, Harika, and Vaishali. We conducted a short interview with her, discussing her performances, future goals, and opinions on the ongoing chess Olympiad.

Prasannaa S scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win 28th Abu Dhabi Open 2022. The top seed of the tournament conceded his lone draw in the fourth round. GM Arjun Kalyan's brother, 14-year-old Rohit S scored 8/9 to finish second. He gained a massive 109.2 Elo rating points. Four players scored 7.5/9 each. Another 14-year-old, Arnav Maheswari secured the third place based on tie-breaks. The champion won against both runner-ups. Ajith MP triumphs at 3rd ICA Rapid Rating Open 2022

Top seed of the tournament, Ajith MP started the tournament with eight consecutive victories. He lost the last round game against Advait Ratnakar Vibhute. However, that did not deter his championship chances. Ajith, Advait, Abhyuday Santosh and Anirudh Gosakan scored 8/9 each. Ajith won 3rd ICA Rapid Rating Open 2022. The remaining three were placed second to fourth according to tie-breaks. One of the unique element about this tournament iss a low entry fee of ₹250. This is to encourage maximum participation of players. The organizer Innovators Chess Academy was certainly successful in it as 315 players participated from all over the country. Arjun Erigaisi convincingly wins 28th Abu Dhabi Masters 2022, now World no.24

Arjun Erigaisi won the must-win final round game against Spain no.4 David Anton Guijarro to clinch 28th Abu Dhabi Masters 2022. He played with the sole purpose of winning the game as he knew that a draw would not be enough to win the tournament. He kept maneuvering until his opponent broke and made a mistake. Javokhir Sindarov (UZB) and Jorden van Foreest (NED) claimed second and third place scoring 7/9 and 6.5/9 each respectively. Six out out of top ten places were claimed by Indians. The remaining five secured sixth to tenth position. They are - Nihal Sarin, Sethuraman S P, Aditya Samant, Karthikeyan Murali and Aryan Chopra. Visakh N R dominates 20th Splimbergo Masters 2022

GM Visakh N R scored an unbeaten 7.5/9 to win the tournament. He finished a full point ahead of the competition. Six players scored 6.5/9 each. GM Diptayan Ghosh and IM Alexander Katz (USA) secured second and third place respectively according to their tie-breaks. Visakh's brother IM Vignesh N R and IM P Shyam Nikhil scored 6.5/9 each. They were placed fifth and sixth respectively. IM Sayantan Das and GM Karthik Venkataraman scored 6/9 to secure eighth and tenth place. MPL 35th National Junior 2022 Girls champion, WGM Priyanka Nutakki won the Best Woman prize. The total prize fund of the tournament was €7000.
