Aravindh Chithambaram clinches 22nd Dubai Open 2022, Praggnanandhaa third

Aravindh Chithambaram drew with Praggnanandhaa in the final round to become the clear champion of 22nd Dubai Open 2022. He scored an unbeaten 7.5/9 and finished a half point ahead of the field. This is sixth overall, fifth individual triumph of the year out of the eight tournaments he played. The last tournament he played was over 1.5 months ago which he won at 41st Benasque Open 2022. He performed at 2705 and gained 11.4 Elo rating points. Five players scored 7/9. They are - GM Alexandr Predke, GM Praggnanandhaa, GM Abhijeet Gupta, IM Sammed Jaykumar Shete and GM Sethuraman S P. They secured second to sixth place according to tie-breaks. Sammed is the only IM among top seven finishers. Total prize fund was US$ 50000. He defeated the world champion, Magnus Carlsen by outplaying him in the endgame with the black pieces, grabbed sole lead and crossed 2700 in the live ratings too. The top junior of USA drew polarizing reactions when he said, "Chess speaks for itself" after he beat the World no.1 at FTX Crypto Cup 2022. Raunak Sadhwani second at Julius Baer Challenge 2022, advances to the Tour Finals

GM Andrey Esipenko scored 20/24 on the second day to finish with 41/45 and win Challengers Chess Tour 2022 Julius Baer Challenge. He scored 13 wins and only two draws, remained undefeated. GM Raunak Sadhwani scored 31/45 to finish second. Both of them have qualified to the Tour Finals which will take place on 29th and 30th October 2022. Five players scored 27/45. IM Aditya Mittal, GM Leon Luke Mendonca and IM Prraneeth Vuppala secured fourth, fifth and seventh place according to the tie-breaks. In a battle of the reigning National champions, Aravindh Chithambaram defeated Arjun Erigaisi to emerge sole leader 7/8 at 22nd Dubai Open 2022. He will face Praggnanandhaa in Round 9. Aravindh must win the last round to become a clear champion, while a draw would leave his fate in Predke's hands. If Praggnanandhaa wins, he would have to hope for Predke to draw or lose, as his tie-break score is inferior to the top seed. Seven Indians out of eleven players are at 6/8. GM Andrey Esipenko made a perfect start 21/21 at Challengers Chess Tour 2022 Julius Baer Challenge. He won all seven games on the first day. IM Prraneeth Vuppala and GM Leon Luke Mendonca made an impressive start 15/21. Both of them scored four wins and three draws each. They are undefeated so far. GM Raunak Sadhwani scored 12/21. WGM Vantika Agrawal 10/21, IM Aditya Mittal 8/21 and WIM Savitha Shri B 6/21 have a lot to catch up in the last eight rounds. Since it's a blitz tournament, a lot can change. Six Indian juniors will feature in Julius Baer Challenge starting today

The Challengers Chess Tour 2022 season starts today with Julius Baer Challenge. 16-players including six Indians - GM Raunak Sadhwani, GM Leon Luke Mendonca, IM Aditya Mittal, IM Prraneeth Vuppala, WGM Savitha Shri B and WGM Vantika Agrawal will take part in the first tournament. The Total prize fund for each tournament is US$10,000. The format of the tournament has been changed from Rapid to Blitz. The total prize fund for the entire season will be $30000 + wildcard for Champions Chess Tour 2023 and a $10000 match against the previous season winner, GM Praggnanandhaa in Tel Aviv, Israel. 22nd Dubai Open 2022 R7: Praggnanandhaa and Aravindh catch up with Arjun Erigaisi and Predke

Arjun Erigaisi drew with Alexandr Predke in the seventh round of 22nd Dubai Open 2022. Praggnanandhaa defeated Vladimir Akopian (USA) and Aravindh Chithambaram checkmated Kazakhstan no.1 Rinat Jumabayev in 25 moves. All four of them are now at 6/7 each. Praggnanandhaa will face Predke and Arjun will be up against Aravindh in the penultimate round. Four players are in the chase at 5.5/7. Abhijeet Gupta and Sethuraman are the two Indians among them. South Point reclaims 14th Chessmate Inter School Team Rapid Rating 2022 after five years

South Point High School A defeated their B team to clinch the 14th Chessmate - Inter School Rapid Rating Team 2022. Since the defending champion, Garden High School did not participate, a new champion was guaranteed to be crowned. South Point A finished first 13/14, followed by Aditya Academy Senior Secondary at second place 12/14. Both teams remained undefeated. Delhi Public School Ruby Park secured second place 10/14 due to better tie-breaks. Among the Girls teams, Lakshmipat Singhania Academy won the first place in the Girls category for the fourth consecutive year. Arjun Erigaisi convincingly won against the Kazakhstan no.1 Rinat Jumabayev to get himself in the lead. Top seed of 22nd Dubai Open 2022, GM Alexandr Predke ended FM Ayush Sharma's unbeaten run to become the coleader. Arjun will inevitably face Predke in Round 7. They both are at 5.5/6 each. Praggnanandhaa, Sahaj Grover and Aravindh Chithambaram defeated GM Shardul Gagare, GM Raunak Sadhwani and Vaibhav Jayant Raut to trail the leaders by a half point each. A very unique Chess Program - India's Got Chess Talent gets underway

There are many players in who are extremely passionate about chess but are unable to improve. They lack the guidance and direction. With India's Got Chess Talent we plan to help 32 chess lovers from all across India get trained under 4 of the most competent trainers of our country. The 32 players, from 14 different states and 2 Union Territories of India, have been selected through a rigorous process of over 700+ applicants. The four mentors are GM Debashis Das, GM Shyam Sundar, GM Swapnil Dhopade and GM Swayams Mishra. Each team has 8 participants and the training sessions of each team will happen on the ChessBase India YouTube channel. This will culminate into semi-finals and finals between the teams with the winning team getting special prizes and a special IGCT scholarship that will be announced by the winning mentor.

Rinat Jumabayev brought Praggnanandhaa's unbeaten run to a screeching halt. The Kazakhstan no.1 has emerged as the sole leader 5/5 at 22nd Dubai Open 2022. He is closely followed by four players at a half point behind. Arjun Erigaisi scored a 20-move victory against Mahammad Muradli (AZE) to become World no.18 in the live ratings. The only other Indian at 4.5/5 is FM Ayush Sharma. He is having a phenomenal run. He defeated his third GM of the event so far, Liviu-Dieter Nisipeanu. Rakesh Kumar Jena does a hat-trick by clinching BYJU's Starwarz Rating Open 2022

IM Rakesh Kumar Jena won BYJU's Starwarz Rating Open 2022. This was his third consecutive tournament victory. He won the Summer Cup Rating Open on 29th June, Ekagra Rating Open on 17th July and now this event exactly a month after his previous triumph. Despite losing his fifth round game to Dhanush Ragav N S, Rakesh bounced back by winning the next four games. 13-year-old Aswath S and Kaustuv Kundu also scored 8/9. However, Rakesh won the tournament due to better tie-breaks, the remaining two were placed second and third accordingly. Total prize fund of the tournament was ₹1000000. Priyanshu Patil wins 5th Young Masters Rapid Open 2022

Seventh seeded Priyanshu Patil tied for the first spot with the top seed FM Nikhil Dixit and 32nd seed Aditi Kayal at 5th Young Masters Rapid Open 2022. All three bagged 6 points each from the 7 rounds in the locally held city level chess event here at Pune, Maharashtra. Priyanshu finished first by virtue of a better Buchholz score, Aditi secured second on the podium while Nikhil third in the open category. It was hosted by chess mothers in celebration of Independence Day on 15th August 2022 at Joseph D'Souza Chess Academy. Praggnanandhaa continues his superb form from FTX Crypto Cup 2022. The 17-year-old defeated Aram Hakobyan (ARM) in the fourth round to share the lead with Kazakhstan no.1 Rinat Jumabayev at 22nd Dubai Open 2022. They will obviously face each other in the fifth round. The highest rated Indian player in the field, Arjun Erigaisi made a good escape against Serbia no.1 Aleksandar Indjic. Raunak Sadhwani was the other one who averted a loss against IM Aditya Samant. FM Ayush Sharma continues his great run as he defeated his second consecutive GM of the tournament, Arjun Kalyan.
