1st Maharashtra GM Open 2022 R10: Three-way race between Amonatov, Aleksandrov and Arjun Kalyan

Top seed of the tournament, GM Farrukh Amonatov (TJK) drew with GM Arjun Kalyan in the penultimate round. GM Aleksej Aleksandrov defeated GM Deep Sengupta. Amonatov and Aleksandrov are at 8/10 each, closely followed by Arjun 7.5/10. Arjun must win the final round game against GM Alexei Fedorov and hope, Amonatov and Aleksandrov draw their game and also tie-break works out in his favor. Only then, Arjun will have a chance of winning the tournament. FM Ram Aravind L N scored his maiden IM-norm. CM Kushagra Mohan is the highest scorer so far who is neither an IM nor GM. Vidit and Harikrishna set to square off today at Prague International Chess Festival 2022 Masters

The fourth edition of Prague International Chess Festival 2022 starts today. India no.2 Vidit Gujrathi and India no.3 Pentala Harikrishna are set to face each in the very first round. They got the numbers six and five respectively at the Drawing of Lots. Vidit is the highest rated player in the field. Defending champion Sam Shankland is also back to defend his title. Vidit would like to one-up his second place finish in tie-breaks in the very first edition back in 2019. The tournament has a strong field of ten players. It will be a Round-Robin event. Sohil Shaikh wins 1st Pune Open Below 2000 Rating Tournament 2022

25th seeded Sohil Shaikh scored an unbeaten 8/9 to win 1st Pune Open Below 2000 FIDE Rating Chess Tournament. He finished a half point ahead of the competition. Four players scored 7.5/9. Out of them, Sai Balkawade and Arnav Nanal secured second and third place according to tie-breaks. Total prize fund of the event was ₹1000000. Top three prizes were ₹100000, ₹85000 and ₹70000 along with a trophy each. A total of 457 players participated in this four-day rating tournament from six countries across the world, including India. 10th Norway Chess 2022 R6: Carlsen gains sole lead, Anand wins Armageddon against Giri

Magnus Carlsen scored his third Classical victory of 10th Norway Chess 2022. Thus, he has gained sole lead 12.5/18 for the first time in this event. Vishy Anand drew his Armageddon against Anish Giri. Although, Anand was completely winning the endgame. Draw with black pieces in Armageddon means he won the match. He is now currently trailing Carlsen by a full point at 11.5/18. Wesley So made an interesting queen sacrifice against Aryan Tari and won the Armageddon. He is at 10/18. 15-year-old Aditya S Samant became the latest International Master of India. It happened when he drew his ninth round game against Srihari L at 1st Maharashtra GM Open 2022. Pune's very own Aditya secured his final IM-norm at his home city only. Top seed of the tournament, GM Farrukh Amonatov defeated GM Boris Savchenko to gain sole lead 7.5/9. GM Deep Sengupta, GM Arjun Kalyan and GM Aleksej Aleksandrov are in the chase 7/9. Arjun will face Amonatov and Deep will be up against Aleksandrov in the penultimate round. IM Bhakti Kulkarni is currently the top female scorer 6/9. Round 10 starts today at 10 a.m. IST. Amazing Aravindh Chithambaram wins MPL Indian Chess Tour 2022 leg 2

Aravindh Chithambaram continued his momentum from the previous day. He won the first two games on the final day of MPL Indian Chess Tour leg 2. A draw in the final round was enough for him to win the tournament, as he had more number of wins than Nihal Sarin. Both Aravindh and Nihal scored 32/45. Leon Luke Mendonca and Raunak Sadhwani scored 26/45 each. They secured third and fourth place. This win earned Aravindh a spot in the next event of Meltwater Champions Chess Tour. He also qualified for the eight-player tour finals, which will take place in November. This is Aravindh's fourth triumph of the year and perhaps could be the most important one. Photo: chess24

10th Norway Chess 2022 R5: 'The Lightning Kid' Anand conquers Carlsen again

Last week Vishy Anand won against Magnus Carlsen in a Blitz game. The maestro was very close to winning against the world no.1 in their Classical encounter. However, the reigning world champion somehow managed to wriggle out of a difficult position with a draw. In the Armageddon, Carlsen made a mistake where he could have seized the advantage. 'The Lightning Kid' was not going to let another opportunity slip by and once again struck him for the second time in the faster format of the game. IM Aditya Mittal had a very tough endgame against GM Nguyen Duc Hoa (VIE). However, Aditya showed his resilience and managed to salvage a draw. GM Boris Savchenko, GM Farrukh Amonatov and GM Mihail Nikitenko are in a three-way lead 6.5/8 at 1st Maharashtra International GM Open 2022. Seven players are trailing by a half point at 6/8 each. They are - GM Nguyen Duc Hoa, GM Aleksej Aleksandrov, GM Karthik Venkataraman, GM Deep Sengupta, GM Arjun Kalyan, IM Aditya Mittal and IM Neelash Saha. MPL Indian Chess Tour 2022 leg 2 R9-12: Aravindh Chithambaram soars to the top

Aravindh Chithambaram decimated the competition on the third day of MPL Indian Chess Tour leg 2. He won all four of his games against Raunak Sadhwani, Surya Sekhar Ganguly, Abhijeet Gupta and Abhimanyu Puranik. Thus, he climbed from seventh to first place. Nihal Sarin also has the same score as Aravindh 25 points. However Aravindh is ahead in tie-breaks as he scored more wins than Nihal. It will be a close battle between them. GM Farrukh Amonatov (TJK) halted IM Srihari L R's fantastic run at 1st Maharashtra GM Open 2022. The top seed and GM Mihail Nikitenko currently share the lead 6/7. They are followed by a pack of six players in the chase at 5.5/7 each. Among them, there are three Indians - GM Deep Sengupta, GM Arjun Kalyan and IM Aditya Mittal. Deep and Arjun will face each other in the eighth round, while Aditya will face GM Nguyen Duc Hoa (VIE). Vishy Anand suffered his first loss of 10th Norway Chess 2022 against Wesley So in Armageddon. Although the moment where Anand was completely winning, turned out to be the moment where he made a fatal mistake which cost him the game and the match. Magnus Carlsen defeated Anish Giri in the Classical game after the latter made some bold exchange of his queen for the world champion's two rooks. The Dutch no.1 claimed to know the variation extremely well but he got confused with the order. Mamedyarov scored his first Classical win of the event against Hao Wang. Today is a rest day. MPL Indian Chess Tour 2022 leg 2 R5-8: Raunak Sadhwani maintains his sole lead

Raunak Sadhwani once again started the day with a draw. Although he was completely winning against Leon Luke Mendonca, his resiliency halted Raunak's winning streak. He won the remaining two games against Visakh and Vantika to maintain his sole lead at 17/21. Nihal climbed up to the second spot 15/21, scoring three wins and a draw. Arjun Erigaisi won all four of his games to tie for the third place with Abhimanyu Puranik at 14/21 each. D Gukesh had to withdraw from the tournament for the lack of proper internet connection. Srihari L R is the sole IM among seven players who is in the lead 5/6 at 1st Maharashtra GM Open 2022. He started the day with a victory over GM Aleksej Aleksandrov. In the sixth round, he was substantially better against GM Deep Sengupta in the endgame. However, it was not easy to convert, the game ended in a draw. GM Deep Sengupta and GM Arjun Kalyan are the remaining two Indians in the lead. IM Bhakti Kulkarni is the highest scorer among female participants so far 4.5/6, followed by WGM Divya Deshmukh 4/6 and WGM Priyanka Nutakki 3.5/6. MPL Indian Chess Tour 2022 leg 2 R1-4: Raunak Sadhwani grabs early sole lead

Raunak Sadhwani started the day with a draw against Karthikeyan Murali. He won the next three games against Surya Sekhar Ganguly, Abhijeet Gupta and Abhimanyu Puranik. Although the fourth round game was a draw, a final moment blunder by Abhimanyu cost him the game. The 16-year-old has taken the lead 10/12. Aravindh Chithambaram also had a great day. A fourth round loss meant he finished the day with 9/12. Harsha Bharathakoti who ended Aravindh's winning streak and Nihal Sarin are at 8/12 each.
