Video courses from India's top players
Since opening the ChessBase India Studio in Mumbai, we have recorded a few video courses with some of India's strongest chess Grandmasters. 2 of them are out now! The first one is with none other than the India no.1 player in live ratings now - GM D Gukesh. Gukesh breaks down his attacking style of play, and teaches the viewers the key elements of a successful attack. We named the video course "Attack like a Super Grandmaster"! We have 5 main games of Gukesh and each of the game has been broken into 3 parts. These games are explained in great detail and make you think at various junctures. Make sure to go through the model and test positions - and think actively while watching!
The introduction of Attack like a Super GM with D Gukesh
The second video course we recorded was with GM Vidit Gujrathi - named "Master advanced Tactics and Calculations like a super Grandmaster". In this video course, we use studies to present the different aspects of Advanced Tactics and Calculations. As Vidit navigates his way through the world of studies, you get to see a world class GM in action. When does he use brute force and calculation and when does he rely on his intuition - these are all the things that you get to learn from Vidit's video course.

We have put together both of these video courses in the "Indian Super GM Combo". This is a fantastic resource of in-depth learning from India's top players. Also, this is accessible for all devices - Windows, MacOS, Linux, you name it. Improve your attacking chess and master your calculation skills!
High quality combo packs
I would like to attract your attention on these two masterpieces, which I consider to be very helpful for a serious chess player:
1. Powerplay series by Daniel King. Vol. 1-28
Daniel King's powerplay series covers a huge number of important aspects of the game starting from attacking chess, mating patterns, positional play, endgames, openings, tactics and much more. If you have the financial viability to buy all his products, 28 of them and the patience to go through them, it is sure to boost your chess understanding by leaps and bounds. I have gone on record and mentioned about how these lessons of Daniel King have made a deep impact on my chess. If you have watched some of his streams in the ChessBase India Channel, or his instructive videos on his YouTube channel Power Play Chess, you already know you are in for a treat!
2. Master Class series vol. 1-15
Have you always wanted to learn about the games of the old masters of the past? Well, the master class series is a very exciting idea by the ChessBase team. Four master players come together to dissect the play and style of a legendary chess player. Lets say for eg. The first Master Class is related to Bobby Fischer. In it you get to know all about Fischer's openings, the strategies he used in his games, some of the best tactical ideas and also the Endgames. Study the games of 15 legendary players in the World of Chess deeply through the lucid explanations of Dorian Rogozenco, Dr. Karsten Müller, Mihail Marin, and Oliver Reeh!
Must-have Chess Books
We have a wide collection of Chess Books from esteemed authors all over the World. While there is no "one" book which can be recommended to everyone, I'll share some of my personal favorites - preferable to people of various skill levels and taste:
A matter of endgame technique
The most hated cliché in chess is: And the rest is a matter of technique. In A Matter of Endgame Technique, Grandmaster Jacob Aagaard deals with one of the few things chess players hate even more – losing a winning position. No serious chessplayer is new to the misery of spoiling hours of hard work in a few minutes. A Matter of Endgame Technique offers the second-best happiness – the misfortune of others – as well as deep explanation of the underlying patterns of how and why we misplay winning endgames. At just under 900 pages, this hardcover book is actually six books in one, explaining the technical and practical areas of chess endgames plainly, simply and deeply. A must-have book for any serious chess player - the fact that it is written by such a prolific author only adds to its value!
Analyzing the Chess mind
Analyzing the Chess Mind is an exploration of psychology in chess. Psychology affects the chess moves we make, as the authors entertainingly illustrate in expertly annotated examples, but our personal chess psychology is not fixed. We can improve our chess psychology, and the authors show how.
To write about chess psychology, the ideal authors would have world-class chess skills and advanced professional qualifications in psychology, so GM Boris Gulko and Dr Joel Sneed are perfect for the task of Analyzing the Chess Mind. I feel this is a very interesting and little-discussed topic in chess, so this is a nice book to have in your arsenal!
Grandmaster Preparation - Thinking Inside the Box by Jacob Aagaard
In Thinking Inside the Box Jacob Aagaard describes his chess improvement philosophy, developed over more than twenty years of thinking about one question: How do we make better decisions at the chess board?
As the final volume in the award-winning Grandmaster Preparation series, this book unifies the concepts of the previous five books and delves into such topics as:
• Chess psychology
• The four types of decisions we take at the board
• How to play simple positions
• What is calculation?
• How to analyse your games
• and much more!
This is a heavily appreciated book which has helped countless number of chess players. If you are a serious tournament player, there are good chances you already have this one - but if you don't, this is an instant purchase!
There are 2 other books on endgames by Jesus De la Villa which we highly recommend the reader to get along with 100 endgames you must know: 100 Endgame Patterns You Must Know, and The 100 Endgames You Must Know Workbook: Practical Endgames Exercises for Every Chess Player. This will complete your experience learning endgames from the author! These 3 books compliment each other very well, making you stronger in both theoretical and practical endgames.
Best Lessons of a Chess Coach by Sunil Weeramantry
In the course of a game of chess, questions continually arise that test a player’s reasoning skills. Questions such as: – “Who has the better position?”- “Should I resolve the tension in the center?”- “How can I improve the placement of my pieces?” In this long-awaited extension of the classic Best Lessons of a Chess Coach, the reader is invited to take a seat in the classroom of a renowned chess teacher, and learn how to answer such questions while experiencing the beauty, logic, and artistry of great chess games. When Sunil Weeramantry lectures on the games of top grandmasters, one can imagine making decisions alongside them!

The Jeremy Silman Combo - Silman’s Endgame Course + How to Reassess your chess by Jeremy Silman
We must first start with the very sad news of IM Jeremy Silman's demise. Aged 69, Silman passed away on 21st September 2023 after suffering from a long illness. May his soul rest in peace.
IM Jeremy Silman is regarded as one of the finest authors in the World of Chess. This is a combo pack of 2 of his amazing books! Silman's endgame course is well-known to be one of the best resources of teaching endgames to players of different skill levels. The book has a unique system where you can access different chapters as you grow stronger! Starting from Level E where the reader gets to know about basic chess endings, we gradually proceed to A (expert player level), and then to master, which is an amalgamation of everything you have learnt so far and more!
The book is also loaded with a huge number of exercises so that you can test out what you have learnt!
How to Reassess Your Chess has long been considered a modern classic. Designed for players in the 1400 -2100 rating range and for teachers looking for a ready-made chess curriculum, the author shares a mind-expanding journey that takes the reader through imbalance-basics, ensures that every detail of all the imbalances are mastered, and leaves the player/lover of chess with something he always wanted but never believed he could achieve: a master-level positional foundation. If you feel Positional chess still feels like an alien concept to you, let Silman take you on a magical ride!
Silman's humorous quips loaded in between the instructive lessons is a joy to read!
Chess is becoming very popular and we are always asked by parents:
1. What is the right age to start chess?
2. What is the best way to teach chess to their kids.
We, at ChessBase India, have always believed that even a very young kid can learn chess if it is shown to them in a fun way. We felt that a beautifully illustrated children's chess book will be a perfect fit for kids to kickstart their chess journey. ChessPa in Chess Adventure Park is your first chess book.
Grandmaster Anish Giri holding a copy of ChessPa, gifted for his young children!
The book introduces you to the character of ChessPa, a fun Grandpa like character who absolutely loves chess! He takes you on a journey in a chess adventure park where the kids learn all about the chess board, chess pieces, the rules of the game and much more! The text in the book is in the form of a poem story which can be read out to the kids! The pages are colorfully illustrated in a way that the kids would fall in love with chess. This is an ideal way for any child to begin their journey into the world of chess!
