A game of chess is often like a marathon. At the start you might not feel up to the task, but as your body gets warmed up, you start enjoying yourself. You start flowing! This is exactly what happened with Magnus Carlsen in game 8 of the World Championship Match 2021. He had come with an intention to draw the game, but a few suspect decisions by Nepo and Magnus was in his element. The game was still very much under control and it looked like we were moving towards a draw, when Nepo blundered big time. With this win Carlsen, has become a huge favourite to win the match. He is already leading 5-3 with 6 games to go. For Nepo things are absolutely clear, he has to go all out!

World Chess Championship - the Arena

The ongoing world chess championship between Magnus Carlsen and Ian Nepomniachtchi is held as part of the ‘Dubai Expo 2020’, postponed exactly by a year due to the global pandemic and held between Oct 2021 - Mar 2022 at Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The world championship along with the DP World Tour Golf Championship and the Cricket Twenty20 World Cup are the other sporting events conducted in the country coinciding with Expo 2020. The Expo, a suggested six-month, US Dollars 7 billion event which has been about nine years in the making with the participation of 182 countries, is a global extravaganza targeting about 25 million visitors where the world chess championship is a peripheral sporting attraction. The venue is situated within a 45 minutes drive from the major transport hubs of Dubai through a dedicated metro station, built specifically for the purpose.

2nd elllobregat Open R6: Arjun Erigaisi and Aditya Mittal in a five-way lead

IM Aditya Mittal drew with GM Sethuraman S P in the sixth round of 2nd elllobregat Open 2021 to maintain his lead. Arjun Erigaisi beat Marcin Krzyzanowski (POL) to join the leaders at 5.0/6. Jaime Santos Latasa (ESP), Eltaj Safarli (AZE) and Nikita Meshkovs (LAT) are the remaining three players who are at 5.0/6 each. Karthikeyan Murali, Sethuraman and Karthik Venkataraman are the Indians at just a half point behind 4.5/6 each. Arjun Erigaisi and Aditya Mittal will face each other in the seventh round. Carlsen vs Nepo World Championship 2021 Game 7: Wait or Strike?

Until game 5 things were moving along quite slowly in the match. The score was tied at 2.5-2.5. And then Magnus Carlsen struck gold in the 6th game. Since then things have changed. The challenger can no longer go for his solid approach. But at the same time he has to take care not to fall behind by two points in the match as that would be impossible to recover. In the 7th game Ian Nepomniachtchi had the white pieces, but very little time to prepare. Also because of the marathon game that they played in the previous rounds, it is quite possible that his energy levels were running low. It was a dry draw and the score is now 4-3 in Carlsen's favour. IM Aditya Mittal held the top seed of the tournament, GM Nodirbek Abdusattorov (UZB) to a draw in the fifth round of 2nd elllobregat Open 2021. 15 players including five Indians are at a half point behind 4.0/5. They are - Arjun Erigaisi, Sethuraman, Visakh N R and Sankalp Gupta. Aditya will face Sethuraman at the top board. Visakh, Sethuraman and Sankalp drew with Arjun Erigaisi, Nikita Meshkovs (LAT) and former world champion Ruslan Ponomariov (UKR) respectively. Kaustuv Kundu clinches Anantapur All India Rapid Rating Open

Untitled Kaustuv Kundu scored 8.5/9, remained undefeated to win All India Rapid Rating Open at Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh. He beat the seemingly invincible IM Ratnakaran K in the penultimate round to take sole lead. A win in the final round would have ensured his triumph and that is exact what Kaustuv did as he beat Balkishan A in the final round to win the tournament and finish ahead of all IMs. A total of 272 players including six IMs from various states across the country, took part in this nine-round Rapid Rating tournament with a time control of 25 mins + 5 seconds each. Carlsen vs Nepo World Championship 2021 Game 6: 136 moves of pure symphony

It was the longest game ever at a World Championship Match, lasting 136 moves. It was 7 hours and 45 minutes of hard fought struggle. Magnus Carlsen eventually was able to subdue Ian Nepomniachtchi with some brilliant play. The game had so many things in it right from tactical opportunities, positional finesses, time pressure, endgame brilliance and a lot of psychology. Six players including four Indians are at a half point behind 3.5/4. They are - Arjun Erigaisi, Sethuraman, Visakh N R, Sankalp Gupta, Nodirbek Abdusattorov (UZB) and Nikita Meshkovs (LAT). AICF reveals National calendar for the year 2022

The Covid-19 pandemic has delayed a lot of events and a lot of plans went ashtray. However, the year 2022 hopefully will bring a new ray of hope in everyone's lives. AICF has announced all National events and their increased total prize fund. January and February 2022 will witness three National championships each. National Junior (Under-20) is slated to take place at Delhi from 9th to 15th January, followed by National School from 17th to 21st at Bhubaneswar, Odisha and National Sub-Junior (Under-16) between 23rd and 31st at Visakhapatnam. The increased prize fund in all National events owing to AICF's agreement with MPL is also revealed. Find out all information about 2022 tournaments announced by AICF.

2nd elllobregat Open R3: Visakh, Sankalp and Aditya Mittal in a four-way lead

Seven out of top eight games ended in a draw in Round 3 of 2nd elllobregat Open 2021. GMs Visakh N R, Sankalp Gupta, Helgi Ass Gretarsson (ISL) and IM Aditya Mittal are the only four players at 3.0/3. IM Aditya Mittal scored an impressive win over GM Aydin Suleymanli. One of the latest GM of India, Sankalp Gupta defeated GM Jiri Stocek (CZE). Arjun Erigaisi survived a massive scare against GM Hipolito Asis Gargatagli (ESP). FM Aditya Samant continues his impressive run as he won against IM Bharath Subramaniyam H. It was the move that Carlsen was most worried about, it was the move that would have put the World Champion under maximum pressure. But it was not to be. Carlsen vs Nepo World Championship 2021 Game 4: Why did Magnus Carlsen play 1.e4?

It's clear that Nepo has come to the World Championship match with the intention to be super solid, at least with the black pieces. So when Magnus would go 1.e4, it was very likely that he would either go for the Petroff or the Berlin. Yet, why did Magnus Carlsen go for 1.e4? Why did he let his opponent play an opening that's almost unbreakable? We try to figure that out in this article. Currently four games of the World Championship match have been completed and the score stands even on 2-2. There is nothing much to choose between the Champion and the Challenger, but with every passing game, the excitement and the suspense is building.
