Candidates 2022 R12: Radjabov dashes Ding Liren's hopes

Ian Nepomniachtchi made a quick draw with Hikaru Nakamura to stretch his lead by two points. Teimour Radjabov brought Ding Liren's winning streak to a screeching halt. Thus, the World no.2's chances of reducing the gap is slim to none. Both Nakamura and Ding Liren are now at 6.5/12. They will face each other in the final round. So, only one of them has a mathematical chance to match the leader's score, provided Nepomniachtchi loses the last two games. Serbia Open 2022 R3: Harikrishnan outplays Serbia no.1 Aleksandar Indjic

GM B Adhiban started the tournament with three consecutive wins at Serbia Open 2022 Masters. IM Harikrishnan A Ra arguably scored the most spectacular win of the round. He defeated Serbia no.1 GM Aleksandar Indjic convincingly. The 20-year-old got a winning position within the first 20 moves of the game. FM Ram Aravind L N scored a nice victory against IM Sugar Gan-Erdene (MGL). The former showed a fantastic understanding of the position. 2nd Athens of the East GM Open R1-4: Hari Madhavan scores an incredible win against Boris Savchenko

18-year-old Hari Madhavan N B played some fantastic chess to beat the top seed, GM Boris Savchenko. This is certainly a big win for Hari as Boris has won two consecutive tournaments - 3rd Vizag GM Open and then 13th Chennai GM Open 2022. The highest rated untitled player of the event, is now one of the six leaders. GM Stupak Kirill, GM Nguyen Duc Hoa, GM Karthikeyan P, IM Aronyak Ghosh and IM Nitin S are the remaining five players at 4/4. 13-year-old, 132nd seeded Shreyas Seshadri Nellore made an impressive start 3.5/4. Rohit S and Barath Kalyan are two remaining untitled at 3.5/4 each. Round 5 starts today at 10 a.m. IST.

Candidates 2022 R11: Hyperbullet chess derails Firouzja

The perennial question, whether hyperbullet chess helps one during a tournament or not, was answered yesterday. It does not. World no.3 Alireza Firouzja played 250 Hyperbullet games (30 seconds each) with GM Daniel Naroditsky after suffering a loss against Hikaru Nakamura in Round 11. Whether that was a lash out of a previous round loss or a preparation is anybody's guess. He played aggressively against Nepomniachtchi and it did not work out. The former World Championship Challenger is looking strong to become the no.1 contender again. He is currently at 8/11, 1.5 points ahead of Ding Liren 6.5/11. Shardul and Iniyan receive the Chess Olympiad Torch at Jaipur

The 42nd Grandmaster of India, Shardul Gagare received the Chess Olympiad Torch at Jaipur, Rajasthan and handed it to India's 61st GM Iniyan P. Shardul has won Gold and Bronze in Asian Youth events and Silver in Commonwealth Under-20. He has won the Riga Technical University Blitz Open 2019 and secured third place in Abu Dhabi Blitz Festival 2017. Iniyan has won 41st National Sub-Junior (Under-15), Gold in Commonwealth Under-14 and Under-18, Runner-up in 41st Barbera del Valles GM Open and Thailand Chess Festival 2019. CM Kushagra Mohan and WIM Sakshi Chitlange showed some fine endgame knowledge in Round 2 of Serbia Open 2022 Masters. Both of them are among Indian players at 2/2. GM B Adhiban, GM Abhimanyu Puranik, IM Padmini Rout, IM Anuj Shrivatri, IM P Shyam Nikhil and IM Aditya S Samant are the remaining Indians who have made a 100% start. Candidates 2022 R10: Nakamura vanquishes Firouzja

Hikaru Nakamura lived up to his prediction of beating Firouzja at the Candidates 2022. He might have said it nonchalantly, however, one cannot discount the fact that he won the FIDE Grand Prix too. Ding Liren and Jan-Krzysztof Duda were the other two victors of the round. The World no.2 defeated Rapport in his own game by creating imbalance and playing creatively. Caruana's ambitious approach against the FIDE World Cup 2021 winner, did not turn out the way he wanted. Duda's brave play earned him a full point convincingly. Nepomniachtchi now has a 1.5 point lead 7/10, over Caruana, Nakamura and Ding Liren at 5.5/10 each. Gopal relays the Chess Olympiad Torch at Ayodhya and Gorakhpur with Vantika and Tejas

The 16th Grandmaster of India, Gopal G N received the Chess Olympiad Torch at Ayodhya. Gopal along with GM Tejas Bakre and WGM Vantika Agrawal carried the Torch to Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh. At the age of 18 years, Gopal became Kerala's first Grandmaster. He won the Bronze medal for Team India in both Asian Games and World Team Championship in 2010. He represented India at the Olympiads three times - 2008, 2010 and 2012. The Keralite won an individual Gold, three Silver and three Bronze medals at a multitude of Asian Team, Zonal and Sub-Junior tournaments. 9th IBCA World Team R1: India beats North Macedonia

Team India made a good start at the 9th IBCA World Team Chess Championship for the Blind and Visually Impaired 2022. They won the first round of the Group stage, 2.5-1.5 against home team North Macedonia. Soundarya Kumar Pradhan and Swapanil Shah scored victories, Marimuthu K drew and Kishan Gangolli suffered a loss. India will face Italy in the second round. Visakh N R dominates 2nd San Leo International Open 2022

GM Visakh N R scored an unbeaten 8/9 to win 2nd Torneo Internazionale San Leo Scacchi in Fortezza. He finished a massive two points ahead of the competition. GM Artem Omelja (UKR) and GM Oleg Korneev (ESP) scored 6/8 each to finish second and third respectively according to tie-breaks. The tournament had a total prize fund of €7000 combining two groups. Top three prizes were €1000, €800 and €700 cash. The champion received a trophy, and the remaining two podium finishers received a medal each. Serbia Open 2022 R1: Arpita and Kashish score big wins

Serbia Open 2022 witnesses the participation of 393 players, combining both Masters and Amateur section. A total of 78 Indians are taking part in this event. B Adhiban is the highest rated Indian in the field. 12 players are rated 2600 and above. 38 GMs, 68 IMs, 6 WGMs and 13 IMs are taking part. The average rating of the tournament is 2319. That should give you a good idea about the strength of the tournament. Vantika Agrawal carries the Chess Olympiad Torch from Taj Mahal to Varanasi with Tejas Bakre

The 21st Woman Grandmaster of India, Vantika Agrawal received the Chess Olympiad Torch from India's 11th GM Tejas Bakre in front of the Taj Mahal at Agra. They both brought the Torch to Green Park Stadium, Kanpur. Five-time World Champion Vishy Anand arrived at Lucknow Vidhan Sabha. On the ninth day, Vantika carried the Torch to Allahabad Museum, Prayagraj and Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapith, Varanasi. Vantika has won several Silver medals at Asian Youth events. Last year in August she earned her WGM title. She also won the National Women Online championship for the very first time in 2021, after winning FIDE Binance Business Schools Super Cup in the previous month. Photo: AICF

Cemil Can Ali clinches 15th Teplice Open 2022, S L Narayanan second

GM Cemil Can Ali Marandi scored an unbeaten 7.5/9 to win 15th Teplice Open 2022. He finished a half point ahead of the field. Thus, he earned an extra 5000 CZK. In total the Turk won 55000 CZK. Seven players scored 7/9. GM S L Narayanan and GM Iniyan P were placed second and eighth according to tie-breaks. They won 35000 and 6000 CZK each respectively. Both of them gained 1.6 and 8.7 Elo rating points each. GM Sankalp Gupta was the only other Indian to finish in top 15. He scored 6.5/9. Candidates 2022 R9: A day of firsts

Hikaru Nakamura is the first player in the Candidates to play the tournament and then upload the analysis of his game immediately after its conclusion. It was bound to take a toll on him eventually. The tournament situation also prompted the Speed King to take a chance, as later it might become too little too late. It did not pay off. Radjabov scored his first win of the event and also the first Classical win since October 2019. Firouzja and Ding Liren were the other two victors of the round. They also scored their first win of the Candidates 2022. Nepomniachtchi maintained his lead after Caruana could not extract anything out of Petroff.
