Mitrabha Guha dominates 1st Bangalore GM Blitz Open 2024, Sethuraman second and Stany third
GM Mitrabha Guha scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win 1st Bangalore GM Blitz Rating Open 2024. Mitrabha finished a half point ahead of the competition. Four players - GM Sethuraman S P, GM Stany G A, IM Arash Tahbaz (IRI) and GM Diptayan Ghosh scored 8/9 each. They were placed second to fifth respectively according to tie-breaks. Mitrabha defeated the eventual runner-up Sethuraman and drew against the second runner-up Stany. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹400000. The top three prizes were ₹50000, ₹40000 and ₹30000 along with a trophy each respectively. This was Mitrabha's second tournament of the year. Three days later, he won the Classical GM tournament. Mitrabha wins his second consecutive tournament in 2024
GM Mitrabha Guha was the sole leader 8/8 heading into the final round. GM Stany G A was the only pursuer at 8/9. Mitrabha needed a draw against Stany to become a clear champion, that's exactly what he did. GM Sethuraman S P defeated IM Nitin S to secure second place. This was the second consecutive over-the-board tournament Mitrabha won after winning East Zone Inter University team event for Adamas University earlier this month. Three days later, he went on to win the 1st Bangalore GM 2024. It will be mentioned in detail in a separate report.

A total of 462 players including 17 GMs, 28 IMs, a WGM and 4 WIMs took part from 15 countries across the world in the Blitz Rating Open. The one-day nine round Rating tournament was organized by Bengaluru Urban District Chess Association at Sri Kanteerava Indoor Stadium in Bengaluru, Karnataka on 22nd January 2024. The time control of the event was 3 minutes + 2 seconds increment per move.
