The Gift of Chess Initiative aims to distribute 30,000 chess sets in India

"The Gift of Chess" is a non-profit organization whose aim is to distribute 1 million chess sets across the world by 2030. Chess, according to them, has the power to bring about transformation. And so why not begin with a chess set! They have already begun their work in right earnest in more than 25 countries. And now they would like to begin their work of distribution of the chess sets in India. This they would like to do in collaboration with ChessBase India. The aim is to make 1000 chess sets available to each of the states of the country. But firstly we are beginning with 1000 chess sets! Read the article and apply for your gift of chess!

Sinquefield Cup R5: Praggnanandhaa squanders a win against So

Few things are not going well for R Praggnanandhaa at Grand Chess Tour Sinquefield Cup 2024. He is having trouble converting his winning advantages into a win. He missed a plethora of winning chances against Wesley So (USA) in Round 5. The world no.12 got a better position early in the middlegame. However, he missed all his chances and So survived by the skin of his teeth. Anish Giri (NED) made a tactical error in a seemingly equal rook, knight and bishop endgame. It cost him three pawns in quick succession and Alireza Firouzja (FRA) walked away with a win. He has now gained sole lead 3.5/5. D Gukesh had a well fought draw against Nodirbek Abdusattorov (UZB). 30th Abu Dhabi Masters R8: Leon Luke Mendonca rejoins the lead

GM Shamsiddin Vokhidov (UZB) drew with GM Raunak Sadhwani to maintain his lead going into the last round of 30th Abu Dhabi Masters 2024. GM Nodirbek Yakubboev (UZB) halted Brazil no.1, GM Luis Paulo Supi's winning streak. GM Leon Luke Mendonca scored a fantastic win over compatriot GM S L Narayanan. GM David Paravyan scored a win over GM Volodar Murzin. Four players - Yakubboev, Vokhidov, Paravyan and Leon are the leaders 6.5/8 each. Raunak, GM Pranav V and GM Aravindh Chithambaram are trailing by a half point at 6/8 each. Leon will face Yakubboev for the battle of first place. Tbilisi GP Round 8: Kashlinskaya, Anna and Vaishali score a win each

FIDE Tbilisi GP 2024 is poised for an exciting finish. IM Alina Kashinskaya (POL) defeated IM Lela Javakhishvili (GEO) to join the lead with IM Bibisara Assaubayeva (KAZ). Both are at 5/8 each. Bibisara had her chances against IM Stavroula Tsolakidou (GRE). However, the Greece no.1 woman managed to draw in a complex battle. The highest rated player in the field, GM Anna Muzychuk (UKR) scored her first win of the tournament. She defeated IM Sarasadat Khademalsharieh (ESP) after she ignored her back rank issues. GM Vaishali R defeated the in-form GM Nana Dzagnidze (GEO). 61st National Championship R7: Surya Sekhar Ganguly wins seven in-a-row, stretches his lead by a full point

GM Surya Sekhar Ganguly (PSPB) is wrecking through the competition at 61st National Championship 2024 like it is the 2000s. He is the only Indian to have won the then National 'A' for six consecutive years from 2003 to 2008, long before even ChessBase India existed. His seven consecutive win clearly indicates his intention to for the seventh one and qualify to the World Cup. GM Deep Sengupta (PSPB) had a hard-fought draw against IM Aronyak Ghosh (RSPB). Although the former should have won but it was certainly not easy to spot. Five players are trailing the leader at 6/7 each. Sinquefield Cup R4: Gukesh draws a thriller against Firouzja

Wesley So (USA) defeated Ian Nepomniachtchi to join the lead with Alireza Firouzja (FRA) at the conclusion of Round 4 at Grand Chess Tour Sinquefield Cup 2024. Nepomniachtchi made a few inaccuracies in a rook and few pawns, relatively balanced endgame. It reduced his chances for a draw and eventually lost the game. The most exciting game of the round was played between D Gukesh and Firouzja. The world championship challenger made an interesting exchange sacrifice to make things interesting. 30th Abu Dhabi Masters R7: Shamsiddin Vokhidov gains sole lead

GM Shamsiddin Vokhidov (UZB) defeated GM Pranav V in Round 7 to emerge sole leader at 30th Abu Dhabi Masters 2024. He became the only player to score a win among the leaders pack. Pranav's mistake in the queen and bishop endgame proved to be very costly. GM S L Narayanan defeated GM Siddharth Jagadeesh (SGP) to join GM Leon Luke Mendonca and GM Raunak Sadhwani in the pursuit at 5.5/7 each. They are in eight players group of the pursuers. IM Harikrishnan A Ra defeated Turkiye's youngest GM - Yagiz Kaan Erdogmus. Tbilisi GP Round 7: Vaishali ends her losing streak, draws with Anna Muzychuk

GM R Vaishali ended her losing streak by sharing the point with the highest rated player at FIDE Tbilisi GP 2024, GM Anna Muzychuk (UKR) in Round 7. It was a well contested draw where neither player got any real opportunity. IM Bibisara Assaubayeva (KAZ) scored the sole win of the round against GM Alexandra Kosteniuk (SUI). The former women's world champion made an incorrect decision in a rook and knight endgame. It cost her dearly. Bibisara has emerged sole leader 4.5/7. She is followed by four players - GM Mariya Muzychuk (UKR), GM Nana Dzagnidze (GEO), IM Alina Kashlinskaya (POL) and IM Stavroula Tsolakidou (GRE) at 4/7 each. GM Surya Sekhar Ganguly (PSPB) defeated IM Neelash Saha (RSPB) to emerge sole lead after Round 6 of 61st National Championship 2024. The top seed, Surya kept putting pressure on his opponent from the beginning, taking away castling rights. Neelash fought back. However, in the end he fell into a checkmate combination. India's strongest IM Aronyak Ghosh held the defending champion, GM Sethuraman S P to a draw. GM Sayantan Das (RSPB) persevered two pawns down endgame to beat CM Aakash G (TN). D Gukesh salvaged a draw in a losing rook endgame against R Praggnanandhaa in Round 3 of Grand Chess Tour Sinquefield Cup 2024. Praggnanandhaa has not been able to beat Gukesh in a Classical rated game since 2022. He had a very good chance to change it. The world championship challenger kept fighting and seized his opportunity when his opponent made a mistake and lost his decisive advantage. Nodirbek Abdusattorov (UZB) blundered at the end against Fabiano Caruana (USA). Ian Nepomniachtchi defeated Anish Giri (NED) with ease. GM Raunak Sadhwani and GM Pranav V defeated GM Bharath Subramaniyam H and GM Klementy Sychev respectively to join the leaders. GM Aravindh Chithambaram defeated Tong Xiao (CHN) to reduce the gap. GM Adhiban B drew with GM S L Narayanan to stay in the hunt. IM-elect FM Goutham Krishna H bounced back with a win over GM Lorenzo Lodici (ITA). The top seed, Surya won a tough battle against GM Deep Sengupta (PSPB). The latter made a positional mistake which allowed his opponent to get an initiative and later do a beautiful combination. Neelash showed fantastic positional understanding to beat GM Sankalp Gupta (MAH). IM Aronyak Ghosh (RSPB) returned the in-form GM Venkatesh M R's (PSPB) exchange sacrifice and later seized his opportunity in the endgame. GM R Vaishali lost her second consecutive game at FIDE Tbilisi GP 2024. She made a few unforced errors which increased the vulnerability of her. IM Alina Kashlinskaya (POL) scored her first win and joined four other women in the lead. GM Nana Dzagnidze (GEO) was on the verge of her second consecutive win. However, she could not maintain her advantage and IM Bibisara Assaubayeva (KAZ) escaped with a draw. Shubhash Pawar wins Chess Challenge 2.0 with a perfect score

The Chess Challenge 2.0 was held at the Chembur Children's Home on 17th of August 2024. 12-year-old Shubhash Pawar won the event with a score of 6.0/6. The event was organized by Teach Chess India and sponsored by Lion's Club and many people came together to make this happen. We bring you a pictorial report of what transpired on this beautiful day.

30th Abu Dhabi Masters R5: Leon Luke Mendonca in a three-way lead

GM Leon Luke Mendonca defeated GM Lorenzo Lodici (ITA) to stay in the lead after the fifth round of 30th Abu Dhabi Masters 2024. Leon had a back and forth battle which could have gone either way. The Italy no.3 made a one-move piece blunder which cost him the game. Leon, GM Volodar Murzin and GM David Paravyan are in a three-way lead 4.5/5 each. 13 players are trailing them by a half point 4/5. There are five Indians among them - GM Pranav V, GM B Adhiban, GM S L Narayanan, GM Bharath Subramaniyam H and GM Raunak Sadhwani.
