Anwesh Upadhyaya wins a double at Summer Prague Open 2024

Dr. IM Anwesh Upadhyaya scored an unbeaten 8/9 to win Summer Prague Open A 2024. He finished a half point ahead of the competition. IM Jakub Pulpan (CZE) and FM Zino Veleshnja (ALB) scored 7.5/9 each to secure second and third place according to tie-breaks. All top three finishers remained undefeated. The top three prizes in A Open were 20000 + trophy, 15000 and 10000 CZK each. Anwesh also won the C Rapid event. Six players scored 6/7. Out of them, Anwesh won the tournament due to his best tie-break scores. The top three prizes in Rapid were 2000, 1500 and 1000 CZK each. Anwesh becomes unbeaten champion in both Classical and Rapid events

FM Valentyn Profokiev (UKR) and IM Anwesh Upadhyaya were the coleaders 7/8, heading into the final round of A Open event. Valentyn lost to FM Zino Veleshnja (ALB) and Anwesh defeated Wojciech Golenia (POL) to become a clear champion. IM Jakub Pulpan (CZE) won against IM Tomas Kulhanek (CZE) to finish second, Zino secured third place.

FM Richard Mladek (CZE), Jan Golenia (POL) and IM Anwesh Upadhyaya were the three leaders 5.5/6, going into the final round. Richard drew with Anwesh, Jan lost to Taron. Total six players ended up with the same score 6/7 each. Anwesh became champion, Taron second and Richard third.

A total of 208 players including a GM, 7 IMs, a WGM and three WIMs took part from 35 countries across the world. The eight-day nine round Rating tournament was organized by AVE Chess z.s. at Olympik hotel Tristar in Prague, Czech Republic from 2nd to 9th August 2024. The time control of the event was 40 moves in 90 minutes + 30 minutes + 30 seconds increment from move no.1.
