Saptorshi Gupta dominates Summit Rookies August Rapid Rating Open 2024 with a perfect score
Saptorshi Gupta scored a perfect 6/6 to win Summit Rookies August Rapid Rating Open 2024. The PhD researcher finished a staggering 1.5 points ahead of the competition. Four players - Ziyi Huang (CHN), Yao Zen Markis Tew (NZL), Junqing Jerome Tao (NZL) and Xxavier Willoughby-Ansell (NZL) scored 4.5/6 each. They were placed second to fifth respectively. Saptorshi defeated both podium finishers. The top three prizes were NZ$120, $80 and $40 along with a medal each. The one-day six-round tournament was organized by Summit Chess Club at Alexandra Park, Epsom in Auckland, New Zealand on 4th August 2024. This was Saptorshi's third tournament he played and first triumph in New Zealand.

Saptorshi Gupta made a blazing start by winning five games in-a-row. He had a half point lead going into the final round. Yao Zen Markis Tew (NZL) was the sole player trailing him by a half point at 4.5/5. Saptorshi defeated Yao to win the tournament with a tournament with a perfect score. This was the third tournament Saptorshi played in New Zealand since last year and he won it in style.
Less than four days after winning the tournament, on 10th August 2024, Saptorshi Gupta met the one and only - Vishy Anand at New Zealand Chess Federation. The maestro was there for FIDE Olympiad Torch Ceremony. He got his book - Vishy Anand: World Chess Champion - Life and Games by Vishy Anand and John Nunn signed by the legend Anand himself.

A total of 43 players took part from five countries across the world in this one-day six-round Swiss League Rapid Rating Open tournament. It was organized by Summit Chess Club at Alexandra Park, Epsom in Auckland, New Zealand on 4th August 2024. The time control of the tournament was 15 minutes + 5 seconds increment.
