Chennai Grand Masters is the strongest ever classical super tournament to take place in India. The average rating of the tournament is 2711. Arjun Erigaisi and D Gukesh will be battling against Parham Maghsoodloo (IRI) for an improvement in the FIDE Circuit. They will also face Levon Aronian (USA), Sanan Sjugirov (HUN), Pentala Harikrishna, Pavel Eljanov (UKR) and Alexandr Predke (SRB). The permutation and combinations related to FIDE Circuit was mentioned in an earlier article. The event is sponsored and supported by Tamil Nadu Government and Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu. The total prize fund is ₹5000000 (US$ 60000). Khelo Chess India Grand Finale - Angela wins Rapid, Saurabh Blitz

The Annual finale of the Khelo Chess India tournament organized by ChessBase India, "Sage Sports Academy Rapid and Blitz took place this Sunday! The Rapid Chess tournament was won by WIM Angela Franco from Colombia, and Saurabh Choubey from Madhya Pradesh bagged the Blitz Chess tournament. This event was organized on 10th December at the Sage International School, Kolar, Bhopal, the capital of Madhya Pradesh. The Khelo Chess India tournaments, which started in January 2023, have completed 23 events so far. A total prize fund of Rs 61,000 was kept in this competition, of which Rs 50,000 was kept for the rapid tournament and Rs 11,000 was kept for the blitz tournament. Vikramaditya Kulkarni dominates 8th Kurukshetra Rating Open 2023

IM Vikramaditya Kulkarni scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win 8th Kurukshetra Rating Open 2023. He finished a staggering one and a half points ahead of the field. Six players - Dangmei Bosco, Silkam Sangma, Soram Rahul Singh, Cheniram Pegu, Neelabh Jyoti Borthakur and Abhash Roimya Saikia scored 7/9 each. They were placed second and seventh respectively. Abhash was the youngest finisher among the top ten.  The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹359500. The top three prizes were ₹40000, ₹30000 and ₹22000 along with a trophy each respectively. Chennai Grand Masters 2023 - India's strongest ever Classical Super Tournament

It's the last month of the year but we are ending the chess calendar of events on Indian soil with a bang! From 15th to 21st of December the first ever super tournament of the country is going to be held in Chennai India. It is sponsored and supported by the Tamil Nadu Government and Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu and organized by MGD1, NODWIN Gaming and ChessBase India. It's the strongest ever classical super tournament on Indian soil with a rating average of 2711. The main attraction of the event will be the two Indian youngsters Gukesh and Arjun Erigaisi trying to take on some of the best in the world - Maghsoodloo, Aronian and others. Michael Adams wins 13th London Chess Classic 2023, Gukesh third

52-year-old legend, Michael Adams won the 13th London Chess Classic 2023. He drew his final round game against fellow compatriot - IM Shreyas Royal to become the first English player to win the event. Adams scored an unbeaten 6/9, performed at 2770 and finished a half point ahead of the field. M Amin Tabatabaei (IRI) drew against Jules Moussard (FRA) to finish sole second scoring 5.5/9. D Gukesh suffered a loss against Hans Niemann. He finished third and his journey towards the Candidates 2024 still continues at the next event. It has been an outstanding year for Adams who won Cambridge Open in February, English Open in May, British Championship in July, World Senior 50+ Championship in November and now London Classic. 18-year-old Aydin Suleymanli tops 9th Vugar Gashimov Memorial 2023 Rapid with a 2740 performance

18-year-old Aydin Suleymanli (AZE) started the final day of 9th Vugar Gashimov Memorial 2023 Rapid with a blazing win over Nijat Abasov (AZE). The teenager lost the penultimate round game against Vidit Gujrathi. However, he managed to bounce back in the final round to beat Arjun Erigaisi. Thus, Aydin became the top finisher of the Rapid segment with 11/18. Arjun, Jorden van Foreest (NED) and Vidit Gujrathi are close on his heels at 10/18. A full point going into the Blitz event can be the difference maker. Despite losing the first round and being the lowest rated player in the field, Aydin delivered a 2740 performance which is remarkable. 18 rounds of Blitz will be played today. Odisha Government collaborates with FIDE to promote chess, 100 chess centres to be opened in the state

Odisha has been making spectacular strides in growing chess recently. From the formation of their first fully government-funded chess academy Pro-Chess-Ta, to embarking on a project to open 100 chess centers around the state! The Deputy Chair of FIDE Management Board, Dana Reizniece-Ozola recently had a tour across India to promote women in chess and educational chess. On her journey, she also visited Odisha and met with the Chief Minister and Sports Authorities. S L Narayanan dominates 4th Elllobregat Open 2023 and Blitz Masters, Abhimanyu Puranik second

GM S L Narayanan scored an unbeaten 7.5/9 to win 4th Elllobregat Open A 2023. He drew his last round game against GM Vladimir Fedoseev (SLO) to become a clear champion. Four years later, Narayanan won the same tournament, bettered his score and won the Blitz Masters too. Fedoseev, GM Aravindh Chithambaram and GM Abhimanyu Puranik scored 7/9 each. After Playoffs between them, Abhimanyu secured second place, Fedoseev third and Aravindh fourth. The total prize fund was €57250. The top three prizes were €10000 + trophy, €5000 and €2000 each respectively. Before the Classical event, Narayanan won Torneo Blitz Masters, Ciutat de L'Hospitalet 50 x 50 on 29th November 2023. 14-year-old IM Shreyas Royal (ENG) continues his fantastic run at 13th London Chess Classic 2023. In the penultimate round, he managed to turn things around against GM Jules Moussard (ENG). The Frenchman is having difficulty converting his advantages into a win. This time, it was certainly not an easy one. The teenager pounced when the opportunity was presented to him. Andrei Volokitin (UKR) scored the only other win of the round, against Mateusz Bartel (POL). The standings at the top remains unchaged as Michael Adams (ENG) maintains his sole lead 5.5/8, followed by M Amin Tabatabaei (IRI) and Gukesh at 5/8 each. 9th Gashimov Memorial 2023 Rapid R4-6: Aydin sensational against Shakh, joins three-way lead

When the fifth round of 9th Vugar Gashimov Memorial 2023 concluded, all ten players had lost at least one game each. The gap between the leaders and the players in the third point group is only of one point. Three players are at 7/12, followed by four players at 6/12 and three at 5/12. Arjun Erigaisi, Aydin Suleymanli (AZE) and Nijat Abasov (AZE) are the three leaders. Aydin defeated one of his idols - Shakhriyar Mamedyarov (AZE) in the sixth round to join the lead. Last year also, he had the exact same result at the very same event, only the color was different. It goes without saying that the competition is extremely close. It is absolutely unpredictable on who is going to win. Only three more rounds of Rapid games left. No single player has a complete edge over the rest, as evident by the points table. India wins five medals at Western Asian Junior Chess Championships 2023

India has won a total of five medals including two Gold, one Silver and two Bronze medals at Western Asian Junior Chess Championships 2023. Two former Asian Junior Open champions - IM Harshavardhan G B and IM Raahul V S shined brightly. Harshavardhan won Gold in Rapid Open scoring 5.5/7 and Silver in Classical Open 6.5/9. Raahul earned Gold in Blitz Open with a perfect score of 7/7. In the Girls event, Rindhiya V scored 6/9 to win Bronze in the Classical event. 13th London Chess Classic 2023 R7: 14-year-old Shreyas Royal impressive against Gukesh

14-year-old IM Shreyas Royal (ENG) played impressive chess against GM D Gukesh in the seventh round of 13th London Chess Classic 2023. At one point, Shreyas had a great opportunity to push further in his advantageous position. However, he missed the move order and it allowed his opponent to equalize. M Amin Tabatabaei (IRI) and Mateusz Bartel (POL) are the two winners of this round. They defeated Nikita Vitiugov (POL) and Hans Niemann (USA) respectively. Michael Adams (ENG) maintains his sole lead 5/7. He drew against Andrei Volokitin (UKR). 9th Gashimov Memorial 2023 Rapid R1-3: Nijat Abasov gains early sole lead

Nijat Abasov (AZE) emerged early sole leader at 9th Vugar Gashimov Memorial 2023. He scored 5/6 including wins against Richard Rapport (ROU) and Boris Gelfand (ISR). Rauf Mamedov (AZE), Arjun Erigaisi and Vidit Gujrathi are the three players at 4/6 each. Vidit had the longest game of the day against Jorden van Foreest (NED) in the second round which went for over 150 moves. After that, he beat Rapport in the third. Arjun Erigaisi defeated Shakhriyar Mamedyarov (AZE) in the third round. It was an excellent game where 'Shakh' faltered in the end and Arjun capitalized on it in a sharp position. IM Vikramaditya Kulkarni wins Bijnor Open 2023

Maharashtra's experienced International Master Vikramaditya Kulkarni won the Bijnor Open FIDE Rated Chess Tournament! This was the first event of the UP Booster Series, which was started with the aim of bringing a new chess revolution in Uttar Pradesh With his brilliant game, Showcasing brilliant play Vikramaditya won with a 100% score - he won all seven of his games and secured first place. In the final round, he defeated the second seed of the tournament, IM Ramnathan Balasubramaniam from Tamil Nadu. Sparsh Yadav from Uttar Pradesh stood second, and Gopal Krishna Maheshwari took third place. On the last day, ChessBase India organized a simul given by WIM Angela Franco from Colombia, and also announced the best game award from all the seven rounds.
