Chess Grad wins 1st CEG Trophy State level Open Team 2022

The top two seeds of the tournament, Chess Grad and SSN College of Engineering scored an unbeaten 15.0/16. ChessGrad clinched the 1st CEG Trophy State level Team Chess Tournament 2022 due to better tie-break score. SSN had to settle for the second place. Five teams scored 12.0/16. Out of them, Velammal Engineering College secured the third place due to better tie-break score. Manush Shah becomes the latest International Master of India

25-year-old Manush Shah scored his final IM-norm at IM Third Saturday 257. He became the latest International Master of India on 14th May 2022. He also won the tournament in the process. The young man from Gujarat, scored his first IM-norm at GM Round Robin Third Saturday 83 in November 2018. The second IM-norm was scored at GM Third Saturday 105 in February 2019. Covid-19 pandemic delayed his title hopes. He took a tournament to get into the rhythm and won the next one to score his final IM-norm. Novi Sad is certainly a good place for Manush as he scored all three of his IM-norms there. He also crossed 2400 at the very same place in March 2019.

Mitrabha Guha clinches 1st Talent Chess Academy All India Rapid Rating Open 2022

After finishing second at KL University Rapid Rating Open with an unbeaten 7.5/9, Mitrabha once again remained undefeated at Talent Chess Academy Rapid Rating Open. Only this time he improved his score 7.5/8 and finished a half point ahead of the field to win the tournament. Four players scored 7.0/8 - GM Karthik Venkataraman, FM J Ramakrishna, IM Raahul V S and IM Ravi Teja S. They were placed second to fifth according to the tie-breaks. IM C R G Krishna scored an unbeaten 7.5/8 to win the Blitz Rating Open. He also finished a half point ahead of the field. Five players scored 7.0/7 - GM Karthik, IM Viani Antonio Dcunha, GM Mitrabha, IM Dhulipalla Bala Chandra Prasad and Kunal M. They secured second to sixth place according to tie-breaks. Avirat Chauhan and Charvi triumph at MPL 34th National U-8 Open and Girls Chess Championships 2022

Avirat Chauhan (MAH) and Charvi A (KAR) won their respective final round games to win MPL 34th National Under-8 Open and Girls Chess Championship 2022. Charvi A once again scored an unbeaten 10.5/11 to claim her second National age group title. She finished a whopping 1.5 points ahead of the competition. Pooja Shree R (TN) and Samhita Pungavanam (TEL) scored 9.0/11 each. They secured second and third place respectively according to tie-breaks. Avirat won AICF Online National Under-7 Open last year. Ramnathan Balasubramaniam wins 1st SSS All India Rating Open 2022

Second seed of the tournament, IM Ramnathan Balasubramaniam (TN) scored an unbeaten 7.5/8 to win 1st SSS All India Open Rating 2022. He finished a half point ahead of the field. Umashankar A (PUD) and Sa Kannan (TN) scored 7.0/8 each. They were placed second and third according to tie-breaks. The total prize fund for the tournament was ₹300000. Top three prizes in were ₹50000, ₹30000 and ₹20000 cash along with a trophy for the winner. Total 94 prizes were up for grabs. John Veny Akkarakaran and Mrittika Mallick become MPL 34th National U-14 Open and Girls Champions 2022

John Veny Akkarakaran (KER) and Mrittika Mallick (WB) drew their respective games to win MPL 34th National Under-14 Open and Girls Chess Championship 2022. Both of them scored 9.0/11 each. Mrittika needed a draw in the final round to win the tournament, however, things were not clear whether a draw would be enough for John to become the champion. All results eventually turned out in his favor. Gaurang Bagwe (MAH) also scored 9.0/11. He was placed second on tie-breaks. A R Ilamparthi (TN) was placed third 8.5/11. Himanshi Rathi clinches AICFB National Women Chess Championship for the Blind 2022

Himanshi Rathi (GUJ) scored an unbeaten 7.0/8 to win AICFB National Women Chess Championship for the Blind 2022. She finished a half point ahead of the field. This is her third National Women title. Previously, she won it in 2019 and 2020. Vaishali Savalker (MAH) scored an unbeaten 6.5/8 to finish at second place. She also finished second for the third consecutive time. Five players scored 6.0/8. Tijan Punaram Gawar (MAH) was placed third according to tie-breaks. A total of 50 players participated in this three-day eight round tournament from various states across the country. Top three totally blind and top three partially are selected for Asian para games. John Veny Akkarakaran (KER) made a good recovery by swindling CM Mayank Chakraborty (ASM) from a completely lost position. The crucial victory earned him a sole lead. Then he drew with Koustuv Dash (ODI) to stay ahead of the pack 8.5/10 in MPL 34th National Under-14 Open Chess Championship 2022. In the Girls section, top seed Mrittika Mallick (WB) scored two important victories over Maharashtra's Sannidhi Bhat and Aanya Roy respectively to claim the sole lead 8.5/10. Top seed of the tournament, CM Om Manish Kadam (MAH) ended John Veny Akkarakaran's (KER) fantastic winning streak. Then CM Mayank Chakraborty (ASM) beat Om in Round 8 to become one of the tournament leaders 7.0/8 at MPL 34th National Under-14 Open Chess Championship 2022. John also bounced back with a win over Ethan Vaz (Goa) to become a coleader. In the Girls section, top three West Bengal vs Mahrashtra battles ended in three draws in the seventh round. Vishy Anand would become the Deputy President if Dvorkovich wins the FIDE Presidential Elections 2022

Vishy Anand has played many different roles in the world of chess. We all know that he is the five-time World Champion. But he has also been a major promoter of the sport in the country as well as the world. He now spends a lot of time as a trainer to some of the most talented youngsters at the Westbridge Anand Chess Academy. But one move that very few would have seen coming, was Anand becoming a part of the FIDE administration. Today, 12th of May 2022, Arkady Dvorkovich has announced his FIDE Presidential Team. If Dvorkovich is re-elected as the FIDE President in Chennai in August, then Vishy Anand would become the FIDE Deputy President.

John Veny Akkarakaran (KER) continues his winning streak. He scored a double hat-trick 6.0/6 to gain sole lead at MPL 34th National Under-14 Open Chess Championship 2022. He beat CM Daakshin Arun (TN) and Shaik Sumer Arsh (TEL) convincingly. Top seed CM Om Manish Kadam (MAH) and Ethan Vaz (Goa) are trailing by a half point each. Aravindh Chithambaram scores a hat-trick by clinching 1st Rejoice CTF Rapid Rating Open 2022

After successfully defending the National Rapid and Blitz title, Aravindh won his third consecutive tournament in as many days at 1st Rejoice CTF Rapid Rating Open on 1st May. Five players finished with the same score 8.0/9. They are - GM Aravindh Chithambaram, GM Karthikeyan P, GM Karthik Venkataraman, IM P Shyam Nikhil and FM Niranjan Navalgund. They were placed first to fifth according to tie-breaks. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹200000. Top three prizes were ₹40000, ₹20000 and ₹13000 cash along with a trophy each respectively. 24th seeded newly crowned Maharashtra State Under-14 Girls champion, Sannidhi Ramakrishna Bhat (1373) undoubtedly had a fantastic day in MPL 34th National Under-14 Girls Chess Championship 2022. The 12-year-old girl outplayed fourth seeded Anupam Sreekumar (KER, 1673). Then she defeated second seeded Sachi Jain (DEL, 1768) in the following round. She is now in the lead with the reigning National Under-14 Girls champion, Shubhi Gupta (UP, 1613). Top seed CM Om Manish Kadam (MAH, 2144), CM Daakshin Arun (TN, 2016), Koustuv Dash (ODI, 1910) and John Veny Akkarakaran (KER, 1855) are the four leaders at 4.0/4 in the Open section.
