1st Guwahati GM Open R2-3: Anabil Goswami's magic number 1111

15-year-old Anabil Goswami scored the biggest upset in Round 2 of 1st Guwahati International GM Open 2022. The 1334-rated boy from Tripura defeated IM Ortik Nigmatov (UZB). Earlier he drew with IM Rahul Sangma in the first round. In the third round, Kumar Gaurav won against IM Arash Tahbaz (IRI). The 20-year-old persevered a tough position and waited for the right moment to strike against his opponent. 13-year-old Abhash Roimya Saikia drew with two GMs he faced on the same day - P Karthikeyan and Saptarshi Roy. Sanan Sjugirov wins Belgrade GM Tournament 2022, Nihal Sarin second

Nihal Sarin scored 5.5/9 to secure second place at Belgrade GM Tournament 2022. Sanan Sjugirov scored 6.5/9 and finished a full point ahead of the field to win the tournament. He won €5000 cash prize. Velimir Ivic and World Rapid 2021 champion, Nodirbek Abdusattorov scored 5.5/9 each. Since Nihal beat both of them, he was placed second. Ivic and Abdusattorov secured third and fourth place respectively. Nihal earned €3500 cash prize, Ivic got €2500. 1st Guwahati GM Open R1: 1336-rated Darsh Shetty upsets WGM Divya Deshmukh

13-year-old Darsh Shetty scored the biggest upset in the first round of 1st Guwahati International GM Open 2022. The 1336-rated boy beat the newly crowned National Women champion, WGM Divya Deshmukh. She is rated 965 points higher than him but that did not stop the boy to play the endgame beautifully, seizing his opportunity. 11-year-old Arshiya Das (1407) got herself very close to winning against IM Ortik Nigmatov (UZB, 2445). ONGC wins 31st PSPB Chess Inter-Unit Championships 2022

Some of the best chess players of our country had gathered at the Acres Club in Mumbai for the 31st PSPB Inter-Unit Chess Championships 2022. It had all gone down to the wire as team IOCL was going to meet team ONGC in the final round. A 2-2 draw was fine for the IOCL team, but ONGC had to win at all costs. There were some mouth watering encounters for the chess fans, the main one being Humpy (ONGC) vs Adhiban (IOCL). The match went right upto the wire. Neelash Saha and Priyanka Nutakki clinch MPL National Junior Open and Girls Chess Championships 2022

IM Neelash Saha (WB) won an exciting final round game against Aryan Arora to win MPL 50th National Junior Chess Championship 2022 Open. He finished a half point ahead 8.0/9, of the competition Utsab Chatterjee (WB) and FM Rohith Krishna S (TN) 7.5/9. They secured second and third place respectively according to tie-breaks. WGM Priyanka Nutakki (AP) drew her final round game against Sajitha B (TN) to score 7.5/9. Bangladesh Premier League 2022 R4: Aditya Mittal stuns Sankalp Gupta

Bangladesh Police and Bangladesh Biman scored an identical 3-1 victory over Bangladesh Navy and Janata Bank Officer Welfare Society in Round 4 to share the lead at Golden Jubilee of Independence Premier Division Chess League 2021-22. They are the only two teams at 8.0/8. IM Aditya Mittal (SCC) scored a crushing win over GM Sankalp Gupta (RBKP) who had a great difficulty finding place for his pieces. FM Harshad S (JBOWS) held GM Mitrabha Guha (BB) to a draw. Richard Rapport wins FIDE Belgrade GP 2022, now World no.7

Richard Rapport defeated Dmitry Andreikin in the second game of the Finals to win FIDE Belgrade GP 2022. He now leads the GP standings with 20 points and has very good chances to secure his place in the FIDE Candidates 2022. After a draw in the first game, the Hungary no.1 made an interesting exchange sacrifice which required some precise calculations by his opponent to secure a draw by perpetual. Unfortunately for the FIDE World Cup 2013 runner-up, he was unable to find it and the creative genius Rapport won the game. Neelash, Utsab and Rohith vie for MPL 50th National Junior Chess Championship 2022

IM Neelash Saha (WB), Utsab Chatterjee (WB) and FM Rohith Krishna S (TN) are the three players in the race to win MPL 50th National Junior Chess Championship 2022 Open. Neelash and Utsab beat FM Ayush Sharma (MP) and IM Koustav Chatterjee (WB) in Round 7. Then they drew against each other in the penultimate round. Each of them would want to win the final round to win the tournament. Top seed WGM Priyanka Nutakki (AP) regained her sole lead by beating the other leader WFM Bhagyashree Patil (MAH) and then she drew with Samriddhaa Ghosh (WB). India's youngest GM D Gukesh has participated in the Master Tournament of the historic Biel Chess Festival twice - 2019 and 2021. For the first time in his career, he will play in the Grandmaster Tournament (GMT) along with seven other stalwarts of the world. They are - Under-20 no.2 Andrey Esipenko, World Blitz 2013 champion Liem Le Quang, UAE no.1 Salem Saleh, 54th Biel GMT 2021 winner Gata Kamsky, Under-18 no.1 Vincent Keymer, World Rapid champion Nodirbek Abdusattorov and Azerbaijan no.5 Arkadij Naiditsch. As mentioned in the press release, Gukesh's name has been recommended by none other than the maestro Vishy Anand himself, who will also be present for a few days. Bangladesh Police registered the biggest victory of the event so far as Janata Bank Officer Welfare Society lost to the defending champions 0.5-3.5 in Round 2 of Golden Jubilee of Independence Premier Division Chess League 2021-22. Sheikh Russel Chess Club registered the second biggest win of the round against Manha's Castle. The lone point for Manha's Castle was scored by GM Harsha Bharathakoti who defeated GM Shyam Sundar M. The sole leader after the fifth round, Utsab drew his sixth round game against IM Harshavardhan G B (TN). It allowed Koustav, Neelash and Ayush to catch up by winning their respective games. In the Girls event, top seed WGM Priyanka Nutakki (AP) beat WFM Lakshmi C (TN) in an exciting encounter in the sixth round to ascend to the top. Anish Giri drew the first game with the black pieces against Dmitry Andreikin. In the second game of the Semifinal tie-breaks, Giri got himself a completely winning position but he squandered it. In a relatively equal position, he made a desperate sacrifice in an attempt to get something. The World Cup 2013 runner-up, did not miss his opportunity and won the game. Vishwa Vasnawala becomes the latest Woman International Master of India

Vishwa Vasnawala scored her final WIM-norm at IM Ask 7 in Aranđelovac, Serbia on 5th March 2022. She scored 6.0/9, performed at 2351 to become India's latest Woman International Master. She scored her first WIM-norm at First Saturday IM May 2019. The second and third WIM-norms were scored in consecutive tournaments IM Ask 6 and 7 within a span of 13 days. Check out her games from the events where she made her norms along with a few best games annotated by her. After Dhyani Dave and Tejaswini Sagar, Vishwa became the third WIM of Gujarat. Her live rating 2314.6 also makes her the highest rated female chess player of her state.
