Vikramaditya Kulkarni clinches Accurate Classical Rating Open 2023 with a perfect 7/7

IM Vikramaditya Kulkarni scored a perfect 7/7 to win Accurate Classical Rating Open 2023. He finished a half point ahead of the competition. Amardeep Bartakke and Arnav Khherdekar scored 6.5/7 each. They were placed second and third according to tie-breaks. The top three finishers remained undefeated. Amardeep drew against Arnav in the final round, while Vikramaditya scored a victory against Ram Vishal Parab. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹250000. Magnus Carlsen (NOR) bounced back with a victory over IM FT Muthaiah Al in the third round of Qatar Masters 2023. Muthaiah did not go down easily. He put up a very good fight. Only in the complex queen and minor piece endgame, he made an inaccuracy which was enough for the World no.1 to seize. GM Aditya Mittal held GM Anish Giri (NED) to a draw. The teenager played really well against the World no.7. GM Arjun Erigaisi and GM S L Narayanan are the only two Indians at 3/3. They are going to face each other in the fourth round. Indrajeet Mahindrakar scored an unbeaten 10/11 to win 12th Kandy Open 2023. He finished a half point ahead of the field. Pesandu Rashmitha Liyanage (SRI) scored sole 9/11 to secure second place. IM Romesh Weerawardane (SRI) scored 9/11 to secure third place according to tie-breaks. The total prize fund of the tournament was LKR 1555000. The top three prizes in the Classical event were LKR 150000, 100000 and 75000 along with a trophy and medal each. Pesandu scored an unbeaten 9.5/10 to win the Blitz event. Three players scored 9/10 each. Qatar Masters 2023 R2: Alisher Suleymenov crushes Magnus Carlsen

Magnus Carlsen suffered a crushing defeat against Alisher Suleymenov in the second round of Qatar Masters 2023. The world no.1 tweeted that his opponent scored a crushin victory, he played an amazing game and deserved to win. He also mentioned that as soon as he saw his opponent wearing a watch early in the game, he lost his ability to concentrate. This was certainly the biggest upset of the event so far and perhaps of the year too. However, it was not the only upset of the round. FM Senthil Maran K handed GM Vladimir Fedoseev his second consecutive loss. IM Vaishali R defeated GM Sethuraman S P, exactly on the same day after her immortal win last year. Ritviz Parab becomes the sixth International Master from Goa

23-year-old Ritviz Parab became India's latest International Master on 21st September 2023. He drew against GM Sethuraman S P in the second round of Tsaghkadzor Open 2023 in Armenia, to cross 2400 in the live ratings. The talented youth from Goa also became the fifth IM from his state. Anurag Mhamal, Bhakti Kulkarni, Leon Luke Mendonca, Ameya Audi and Nitish Belurkar are the first five. Ritviz earned his first IM-norm in April 2015 at 15th BCC Open in Pattaya, Thailand. Over 3.5 years later, he secured his second IM-norm at National Senior 2018 in Jammu. The final norm was scored over 4.5 years later at 29th Abu Dhabi Masters 2023 in Abu Dhabi, UAE. Magnus Carlsen (NOR) and Hikaru Nakamura (USA) registered comfortable wins in the first round of Qatar Masters 2023. Anish Giri (NED) stumbled his way towards victory against IM S Rohith Krishna. The teenager missed a good chance to salvage a half point. IM Kushagra Mohan scored a huge upset against GM Vladimir Fedoseev (SLO). The 18-year-old outplayed the Slovenia no.1. IM Mohammad Nubairshah Shaikh got himself very close to score the biggest upset of the round. However, he missed his chance against the Word no.8 and India no.1 GM D Gukesh. The game ended in a draw. Yash Kulhari wins 1st Dhoni's Trophy Below 1600 Rating Tournament 2023

18-year-old Yash Kulhari and Aswin P G scored an unbeaten 8/9 each at 1st Dhoni's Trophy Below 1600 Rating Tournament 2023. Yash won the tournament due to better tie-breaks, Aswin was placed second. Six players - Gudimetla Navaneeth Reddy, Kesavan G, Ebin Benny, Mohit S, Srinivasan Subramaniam and Prasath K R scored 7.5/9 each. They were placed third to eighth respectively according to tie-breaks. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹680000. Total 198 prizes including 98 cash prize and 100 trophies were up for grabs. The top three prizes were ₹51000, ₹35000 and ₹25000 along with a trophy each respectively. This is Yash's first-ever tournament triumph. Almost eight years later, Qatar Masters is back with the third edition. Yangyi Yu won the first one in 2014, followed by Magnus Carlsen beating him in tie-break to clinch the second edition in 2015. The total prize fund being US$ 108250 with the first prize US$ 25000, attracted a lot of top players including the defending champion, Hikaru Nakamura, Anish Giri, D Gukesh and others. Above 2300 rating restriction in the Open A category ensured a strong line-up. Eight players are rated above 2700, 22 are 2600+, first 36 seeds are GMs only, 58 GMs, 58 IMs, six WGMs and two WIMs are taking part in this strongest Open tournament in the world today. Aansh Nandan Nerurkar (MAH) scored an unbeaten 10/11 to win 36th National Under-11 Open 2023. Pratitee Bordoloi (KAR) had a 9.5/11 score to win the Girls event. While Aansh finished a full point ahead, Pratitee became champion by staying a half point of the competition. Siddhanth Poonja (KAR) and Aadik Theophane Lenin (KER) scored 9/11 to finish second and third respectively according to tie-breaks. Siddhi Rao (KAR) scored sole 9/11 to secure place in Girls. Pavithra R V (TN) was placed third 8.5/11. The total prize fund combining Open and Girls section was ₹800000. Top seed of the tournament, IM Kaustuv Kundu scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win 4th DD-DBCA Rating Open 2023. He finished a staggering 1.5 points ahead of the field. Eight players scored 7/9. Out of them, Ritabrata Chakraborty and Bivor Adak were placed second and third respectively according to tie-breaks. Kaustuv's sole draw was against the only other IM taking part in the event - Ramnathan Balasubramaniam in the penultimate eighth round. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹350000. Hari Madhavan N B wins 2nd SRM Rapid Rating Open 2023

IM Hari Madhavan N B and IM Nitin S scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 at 2nd SRM Rapid Rating Open 2023. Hari won the tournament due to better tie-breaks, Nitin secured second place. Eight players scored 8/9. Out of them, GM Laxman R R was adjudged third according to tie-breaks. Top four remained undefeated. Hari's sole draw occured in the sixth round against Arjun C Krishnamachari. Nitin's lone draw was against the eventual second runner-up, Laxman in the penultimate round. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹200000. Ayush Sharma becomes the third International Master from Madhya Pradesh

18-year-old Ayush Sharma became India's latest International Master on 21st September 2023. He drew against GM Tigran Harutyunyan (ARM) in the second round of Tsaghkadzor Open 2023 in Armenia, to cross 2400 in the live ratings. The teenager from Khandwa also became the third IM from his state - Madhya Pradesh. Akshat Khamparia became the first one in 2011 and Anuj Shrivatri second in 2020. Ayush earned his maiden IM-norm in October 2021 at IM Ask 2 in Arandjelovac, Serbia. Almost a year later, he secured his second IM-norm and also his maiden GM-norm at 22nd Dubai Open 2022 in Dubai, UAE. The final norm was scored in two months time at Asian Continental 2022 in New Delhi. Pranav Venkatesh once again scored a crucial victory in the final round. Aryan Tari redeemed himself from the penultimate round loss. Raunak Sadhwani scored another solid draw. All these ensured Offerspill Sjakklub beat Asnieres - Le Grand Echiquier to win 38th European Club Cup 2023 Open. This is Magnus Carlsen's biggest team event triumph of his career so far. After winning the FIDE World Cup 2023, Carlsen has once again climbed another mountain, something that has eluded him for a long time, clinching a major team championship. India wins double Silver at 19th Asian Games 2022 Team

Indian Men and Women defeated Philippines and Republic of Korea to clinch Silver medals at 19th Asian Games 2022. Indian Men won the final round against Philippines 3.5-0.5. The Women registered their fourth 4-0 whitewash of the event. It was against Republic of Korea in Round 9. Out of 36 games, India lost only one in the team event. In the Men's event, Iran won Gold 16/18, India Silver 15/18 and Uzbekistan Bronze 14/18. China clinched the Gold in the Women 17/18, India Silver 15/18 and Kazakhstan Bronze 13/18. Indian Men and Women certainly delivered a solid performance, earning a double Silver at this long grueling event.
