26th Asian Youth R2: Swayham P Das upsets Harsh Suresh

In the first round, Under-18 Open top seed - IM Aldiyar Ansat (KAZ) suffered a shocking defeat against Khisigbat Ulziikhishig (MGL) at 26th Asian Youth Under-18 Open 2024. In the second round, Under-8 Open, Under- 10 Girls top seeds - Sarbartho Mani and WCM Alanna Berikkyzy (KAZ) suffered a loss each against Kavish Palaniappan K and Zhansaya Sholpanbek (KAZ) respectively. Swayham P Das scored the biggest upset of the round as he defeated IM Harsh Suresh in Under-18 Open. He will face another compatriot Ajay Santhosh Parvathreddy in the third round. This will be his third consecutive opponent from the same country out of the five taking part in his age group. Tomorrow is the sole double round of the tournament. Kavish Palaniappan K, Hriday Garg, Narayani Umesh Marathe, Bijesh Divi, Aadik Theophane Lenin, Ayaan Garg, Pratitee Bordoloi, Siddhi Rao, Pavithra R V, Viresh Sharnarthi, Shreya G Hipparagi, CM Velavaa Ragavesh and Rajanya Datta have won both of their games in their respective category.

Under-8 Open

Kavish Palaniappan K (1551) stunned the top seed Sarbartho Mani (1733). The former showed a fine positional understanding. His opponent, forcing various breaks only made things worse. Hriday Garg (1554) won against Yangming Zhang (CHN).
