India wins 15 medals at 26th Asian Youth Chess Championships 2024 Classical

India won 15 medals - eight individual and seven team at 26th Asian Youth 2024 Classical. Narayani Umesh Marathe lost her final round game. However, her compatriot, Nakshatra Gumudavelly crushed her opponent, Asena Golizadeh (IRI). That win ensured Narayani clinches Gold in Under-8 Girls and Nakshatra Bronze. Top seed of Under-8 Open, Sarbartho Mani scored an important win to secure Silver. Aaradhya Das won her game to secure Bronze in Under-10 Girls. Siddhanth Poonja shattered Aadik Theophane Lenin's Silver medal chances by winning the game. He got Bronze in Under-12 Open. Pratitee Bordoloi made a tough save to salvage a draw and earn Silver in Under-12 Girls. CM Velavaa Ragavesh scored in a must-win game to earn Bronze in Under-16 Open. Three Gold, Six Silver and Six Bronze medals

So far, Narayani Umesh Marathe is the only Indian to have won Gold in both Rapid and Classical events. Pratitee Bordoloi has won Gold in Rapid and Silver in Classical. Siddhanth Poonja claimed Silver in Rapid and Bronze in Classical. Of course, all three of them can make it three medals out of three events tomorrow.

Under-8 Open: Silver - Sarbartho Mani 7/9

Top seed - Sarbartho Mani (1733) defeated Mohammad Taha Malaknezhad to secure Silver. He scored 7/9. Second seeded, Rizat Ulan (KAZ, 1733) finished the tournament with another win to clinch the Gold. Taha got Bronze.

Aadik Theophane Lenin (1852) needed just a draw against Siddhanth Poonja (1958) to win Silver. Even a win would have fetched him the same as Mazen Fandi (SYR, 2138) made a quick draw against CM Ramtin Kakavand (IRI, 2059). However, Aadik lost and missed his medal. Ramtin won Gold 8/9, Mazen Silver 7/9 and Siddhanth Bronze 7/9 as his tie-break score is a half point less.
