The HelpChess Fundraiser during 45th Chess Olympiad 2024

ChessBase India established the Help Chess Foundation on 21st June 2018. It is an 80G registered Charitable Trust formed to help Indian chess players financially. Till today, we have raised more than Rs. 1 crore with the help of 4000+ contributors. With these funds, we have supported more than 50 chess players. Many players have scored their IM and GM norms after Help Chess support. Every year, our goal is to support more players than the previous year. During the World Cup 2023, we raised around Rs. 12,58,827.55. This year, we raised Rs. 10,26,577.13 during the 45th Chess Olympiad. Read the article to know more. Google being announced as the Title Sponsor for World Championship 2024 Match is certainly monumental. This unprecedented partnership is exactly what chess needed. Hari Ganesh clinches Adyar Times Rating Open for the second consecutive year

16-year-old Hari Ganesh T scored an unbeaten 7.5/8 to win 22nd Adyar Times Rating Open 2024. The teenager won the tournament for the second year in-a-row, scoring the exact same points. This time he finished a half point ahead of the rest. Four players - Vakeesh S, Ajjesh J R, Dhanush Ragav N S and Ram Kumar G M scored 7/8 each. They secured second to fifth place according to tie-breaks. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹250000. The top three prizes were ₹35000 + trophy, ₹25000 and ₹15000 each respectively. 45th Chess Olympiad R1: India scores comfortable victories over Morocco and Jamaica

Indian teams are off to a smooth start at 45th Chess Olympiad 2024. The men's team in the Open section scored a 4-0 whitewash over Morocco. All four players - GM R Praggnanandhaa, GM Arjun Erigaisi, GM Vidit Gujrathi and GM Pentala Harikrishna scored comfortable wins. In the Women's event, Jamaica lost to the top seed, India by 0.5-3.5. IM Tania Sachdev scored the smoothest win for the team. GM Vaishali almost allowed her opponent to get back in the final moments. IM Divya Deshmukh had to work to score a full point. WFM Raehanna Brown (JAM) held IM Vantika Agrawal to a draw. India will face Iceland in the Open event, Czech Republic in the Women. Round 2 starts today at 3 p.m. local time, 6:30 p.m. IST. Commonwealth 2024: Sethuraman wins Gold, Vignesh N R Silver and India clinches a historic 107 medals

GM Sethuraman S P and GM Vignesh N R scored an unbeaten 7/9 each at Commonwealth Chess Championship 2024 in the Open category. Sethuraman won Gold on tie-breaks, Vignesh had to settle for Silver. Their sixth round battle against each other ended in a draw. WGM Mary Ann Gomes won the Women's event scoring 5.5/9. She also won a Silver medal each in both Rapid and Blitz events. WGM-elect WIM Sakshi Chitlange won Silver in Classical, Bronze in Rapid and Gold in Blitz. IM Soumya Swaminathan claimed Bronze. GM Mitrabha Guha won Gold in the inaugural Rapid event. Silver for GM Pa Iniyan and GM Laxman R R got Bronze. GM Swapnil Dhopade claimed Gold in Blitz. Silver for GM Mitrabha Guha and IM Hari Madhavan N B Bronze. 45th Chess Olympiad: Morocco and Jamaica are the first round opponents for India

The 45th edition of the Chess Olympiad is the biggest Olympiad in the history. A total of 380 teams, 1736 players are taking part from 194 (Open) and 180 (Women) countries across the world. The host nation India is going to have a team each in Open and Women. The second seeded Open team will face Morocco, while the top seed Indian Women will be up against Jamaica. The deadline for team composition is 10 a.m. local time. So we will only get to know who are playing in the first round 1 after 1:30 p.m. IST. Check out lots of photos, videos and interviews from the opening ceremony and day zero. FIDE World Cup 2025 qualification quotas updated

Apart from the medals in Chess Olympiad, it also has World Cup implications. Even though the non-podium finishers may not win a medal, they can still secure a spot for their compatriot in next year's World Cup. In the Open section, only 80 teams will get a spot at the World Cup for their federations. Europe will get 11 less and for Americas, it will be nine less. In the Women's section of the Olympiad, 35 instead of 50 will gain Olympiad spots. The total number of players who can qualify remains unchanged - 206. Africa has three spots, Americas 21, Europe 41 and Asia 35. In the Women's event, Asia will have 20. So far, GM Sethuraman S P and GM Karthik Venkataraman in the Open, IM Padmini Rout in the Women's World Cup 2025 have already secured their respective places. Photo: FIDE

Soham Bhattacharyya wins 1st Checkmate Chess Academy, Barasat Rapid Rating Open 2024

Soham Bhattacharyya and IM Subhayan Kundu scored an unbeaten 8/9 each at 1st Checkmate Chess Academy, Barasat Rapid Rating Open 2024. Soham won the tournament on tie-breaks, Subhayan was placed second. Nine players scored 7.5/9 each. Out of them, top seed of the tournament IM Arghyadip Das finished third. Srijit needed to draw in the final round to become champion. However, he lost to Subhayan and finished fourth. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹500000. The top three prizes were ₹40000 + trophy, ₹30000 + trophy and ₹20000 each respectively. This was the first-time ever a one-day rapid rating tournament was held in Kolkata. Devanarayanan Kalliyath and Aaranya R are 37th National Under-7 Open and Girls 2024 Champions

Devanarayanan Kalliyath (KER) scored a perfect 9/9 to win 37th National Under-7 Open Championship 2024. He finished a full point ahead of the field. Prayank Gaonkar (Goa) scored sole 8/9 to finish second. Aaradhyo Guin (WB) edged past two more players on tie-breaks to secure third place scoring 7.5/9. Top seed Aaranya R (TN) and second seeded, Arpitangshi Bhattacharya (WB) scored 8/9 each in the Girls event. Aaranya won the tournament due to better tie-break score. Arpitangshi had to settle for second place. Saiaastha Singh (WB) scored sole 7.5/9 to claim third place. The total prize fund combining Open and Girls section was ₹500000. Subhayan Kundu superb at 4th Atal Talent Hunt Rating Open 2024

Top seed of the tournament, IM Subhayan Kundu scored 7.5/8 to win 4th Atal Talent Hunt Rating Open 2024. He finished a half point ahead of the competition. CM Anurag Jaiswal, IM Suvrajit Saha and Sudhir Kumar Sinha scored 7/8 each. They secured second to fourth place respectively according to tie-breaks. Subhayan drew with the runner-up, Anurag in the penultimate round and defeated the second runner-up, Suvrajit in Round 6. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹200000. The top three prizes were ₹50000 + trophy, ₹30000 and ₹20000 each respectively. The four-day rating tournament was organized by Hazaribagh District Chess Association from 17th to 20th August 2024 at Mundrika Kunj in Hazaribagh, Jharkhand. This is Subhayan's fourth overall, second consecutive rating tournament triumph of the year.

IM Aaditya Dhingra, CM Arush Chitre and Dr. IM Anwesh Upadhyaya scored 8/9 each. They secured second to fourth place according to tie-breaks. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹200000. The top three prizes were ₹50000 + trophy, ₹30000 and ₹20000 each respectively. The one-day rapid rating tournament was organized by Kalpana Prakash Welfare Foundation on 18th August 2024 at G H Raisoni Institute of Engineering & Technology in Nagpur, Maharashtra. David Gochelashvili wins 24th Tamil Nadu IM-norm Closed Circuit 2024, Kunal M second

IM David Gochelashvili and FM Kunal M scored 7/9 each at 24th Tamil Nadu IM-norm Closed Circuit Chess Tournament 2024. David won the tournament as he defeated Kunal in the second round. GM Manik Mikulas (SVK) scored sole 5.5/9 to secure third place. Kunal scored his final IM-norm. He just needs to fulfill the rating requirement to become India's next International Master. The seven-day ten-player round-robin tournament was organized by Tamil Nadu State Chess Association at Hotel Le Palace in Chennai, Tamil Nadu from 14th to 20th August 2024.
