India wins 34 medals at 26th Asian Youth Chess Championships 2024

India won ten medals - four individual and six team at 26th Asian Youth 2024 Blitz. Sarbartho Mani clinched Gold in Under-8 Open scoring 7.5/9. Advik Amit Agrawal scored an unbeaten 8/9 to secure Silver in Under-10 Open. Sriram Adarsh Uppala secured a Silver medal in Under-14 Open. He scored 7.5/9. The only Indian girl to win an individual medal in Blitz - Shreya G Hipparagi. She scored 6.5/9 to win Bronze. India had won nine medals in Rapid, 15 in Classical and now ten in Blitz. Kazakhstan won Best Federation as they secured ten individual medals in Classical. India won Silver by winning eight medals. Vietnam third with three medals. 37th Magistral Ciudad de Leon: Arjun Erigaisi and Vishy Anand set to face Jaime Latasa and Veselin Topalov

Arjun Erigaisi and Vishy Anand both will be seen in action at 37th Torneo Magistral de Ajedrez Ciudad de Leon. It will be knockout tournament played in Rapid time control in a best of four games. In the first Semifinal, it will be the clash of two former world champions - Veselin Topalov (BUL) and Anand. The defending champion, Jaime Santos Latasa (ESP) will face Arjun Erigaisi as determined in the draw of lots in presence of the Chief Arbiter - IA Javier Perez Llera (ESP). The first Semifinal starts today at 4:30 p.m. local time, 8 p.m. IST. The second Semifinal will take place tomorrow Saturday at the same time. Finals will be held on Sunday. Superbet Classic 2024 R2: Firouzja bounces back, Gukesh shows his grit against Nepomniachtchi

Alireza Firouzja (FRA) bounced back with a victory over Nodirbek Abdusattorov (UZB) in the second round of Grand Chess Tour Superbet Classic 2024. The former World Rapid champion provoked his opponent to improve his pawn structure. It proved detrimental to Abdusattorov as later his opponent could afford to sacrifice an exchange due to a strong control of the center. Fabiano Caruana (USA) was winning for the better part of the game against Wesley So (USA). However, the All-American battle ended peacefully. D Gukesh had to defend a slightly unpleasant rook and minor piece endgame against Ian Nepomniachtchi for nearly 64 moves. Praggnanandhaa drew with Maxime Vachier-Lagrave comfortably. Tech Mahindra Global Chess League to host its second edition in London

The highly anticipated second edition of Tech Mahindra Global Chess League will take place in London, England from 3rd to 12th October 2024. It will take place at Friends House in central London. Soon Global Chess League Trophy tour will be launched to increase and broaden viewership, interactive fan experiences and and community engagement activities. The format remains the same as the inaugural edition - six teams including two top women chess players and a prodigy player in a double round-robin system. Superbet Classic 2024 R1: D Gukesh defeats Bogdan-Daniel Deac

D Gukesh played his first Classical game at Grand Chess Tour Superbet Classic 2024 after winning FIDE Candidates a couple of months ago. He won the game against the Romania no.2 - Bogdan-Daniel Deac. However, it was not a smooth victory. In fact, at one point in the middlegame, Gukesh captured his opponent's centralized knight incorrectly. It gave his opponent a chance to gain a substantial advantage. He missed it and Gukesh went on to capitalize on his material advantage eventually. Fabiano Caruana (USA) scored the only other win of the round against Alireza Firouzja (FRA). R Praggnanandhaa had a well contested draw against Nodirbek Abdusattorov (UZB). The Tata Steel 4th All India FIDE Rated Specially abled Chess Tournament 2024 is taking place at the JRD Sports Complex in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand. Tata Steel Ltd. is the organizer of the event, under the aegis of CFPD - Chess Federation for Physically disabled Chess players. After 5 rounds of play, there is a 4-way tie at the top with 4.5/5 points - Naveen Kumar A (1986, AP), Venkata Krishna Karthik K (1889,AP), Samarth J Rao (1770, KAR) and Nabhneel Das (1520, UP) are co-leading with 4.5/5 points. A total of 68 players are taking part in this 9-round classical swiss event. There are 3 more rounds to go, the 6th round starts from 9:30 AM IST today, 27th June. On the upcoming 20th of July, when the World Chess Federation will be celebrating its 100th anniversary, FIDE, along with organizers from around the world, will officially attempt to set a world record on World Chess Day. You can be a part of this special effort by participating in the Khelo Chess India FIDE Blitz Rating Tournament in Bhopal from 5 PM to 9 PM. This tournament in Bhopal is part of a series organized by FIDE worldwide. Following the success of the Khelo Chess India Classical FIDE Rating Tournament, this will be our second FIDE Rating Tournament. It will be broadcast live on ChessBase India Hindi and several times on FIDE's channel. The entry fee for this tournament is only 250 rupees. Kaustuv Kundu conquers 14th Chess for Youth 2024

IM Kaustuv Kundu scored an unbeaten 6.5/7 to win Century Ply presents 14th Chess for Youth 2023 Premier (Under-25) section. He finished a half point ahead of the rest. Sagnik Dutta and top seed, GM Koustav Chatterjee scored 6/7 each. They secured second and third place respectively according to tie-breaks. The total prize fund for the Premier section was ₹200000. The top three prizes were ₹50000 + trophy, ₹30000 and ₹20000 each respectively. This is Kaustuv's fourth tournament triumph of the year. The tournament was supposed to conclude on 27th May 2024. However, due to the intense and deathly presence of tropical cyclone Remal, the organizers were forced to postpone the final day of action to 29th May when it concluded. FIDE Arbiter Unni Krishnan dominates 33rd CUSAT Rating Open 2024

It is not every day one get to witness an arbiter winning a tournament. FIDE Arbiter Unni Krishnan M A who is also the Managing Director of International School of Chess won 33rd CUSAT Rating Open 2024. He scored an unbeaten 7.5/8 and finished a half point ahead of the field. Five players - Ajjesh J R, Balkishan A, Arul Anandh S P K, Praveen K B and Unas K A scored 7/8 each. They secured second to sixth place according to tie-breaks. Apart from Balkishan and Praveen, the remaining in top six remained undefeated. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹300000. The top three prizes were ₹30000, ₹25000 and ₹20000 along with a trophy each. The four-day eight round rating tournament was organized by Department of Physical Education CUSAT from 27th to 30th May at CUSAT Campus in Kochi, Kerala. This is Unni Krishnan's first rating tournament triumph of the year.

Brunth Sundar Nitish wins Norway Open 2024

Brunth Sundar Nitish scored 6.5/9 to win Norway Chess Open Elo Group 2024. Marcin Zielinski (POL) scored 6.5/9 to secure second place. However, prize money is shared between the same scoring players as per tournament rules. Alina Shehzad (NOR) edged past five more players on tie-breaks to finish third. Despite a rough start 1.5/4, Brunth made a fantastic comeback by winning his last five games in-a-row to become the champion. IM Svyatoslav Bazakutsa (UKR) won the GM group scoring 7/9. The top three prizes in Elo group were €400, €250 and €150 each. The seven-day nine round rating tournament was organized by IA IO CM Hans Olav Lahlum (NOR) from 24th to 30th May at Clarion Hotel Energy in Stavanger, Norway. Anwesh Upadhyaya dominates 40th Turm Open 2024

IM Anwesh Upadhyaya scored an unbeaten 6/7 to win 40th Turm (Tower) Open Group A (>1700) 2024. He finished a half point ahead of the rest. FM FI Bernhard Stillger (GER) scored sole 5.5/7 to secure second place. He also remained undefeated. Eight players scored 5/7 each. Out of them CM Maurice Gulatz (GER) was placed third due to better tie-break scores. The top three prizes in Open A were €600, €400 and €250 along with a trophy each. The four-day seven round rating tournament was organized by LSV/Turm Lippstadt from 30th May to 2nd June at Cafeteria at the Dusternweg school center, in Lippstadt, Germany. Chiranjit Manna wins a double at Chess Track 5th Classical and 31st Blitz Below 2000 Rating 2024

Chiranjit Manna and Sarwar Hossain Ullash (BAN) scored 4/5 each at Chess Track 5th Classical Below 2000 Rating Tournament 2024. Chiranjit won the tournament as he defeated Sarwar in the penultimate round. Jewel Khan (BAN) scored 3.5/5 to finish third. Chiranjit also won Chess Track 34th Blitz Below 2000 Rating Tournament scoring 6/7 and finishing a full point ahead of the rest. Rayan Rashid Mugdho (BAN) and Kazi Saiyf (BAN) scored 5/7 each to be placed second and third respectively according to tie-breaks. Both rating tournaments were organized by Mohammad Murad Hossain at Chess Track in Dhaka, Bangladesh from 31st May to 1st June 2024, Blitz was held only on 31st. These two are Chiranjit's second and third rating tournament triumph of the year.
