Shaon Chowdhury wins 4th Matrix Cup Rating Open 2025

Shaon Chowdhury, Mrityunjay Kumar and FM Ram Prakash scored an unbeaten 8/9 each at 4th Matrix Cup Rating Open 2025. Shaon became champion due to better tie-break score. Mrityunjay and Ram were placed second and third respectively. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹901000, an increase of ₹50000 from the previous edition. The top three prizes were ₹101000, ₹75000 and ₹50000 along with a trophy each respectively. The five-day nine round Rating Open tournament was organized by Matrix Chess Academy at Abhinav Global School in New Delhi from 3rd to 7th January 2025. Shaon clinches the first tournament he plays in this year

Mrityunjay Kumar was the sole leader 7.5/8, going into the last round. Five players - Shaon Chowdhury, FM Ram Prakash, Medhansh Saxena, Akshat Negi and Raj Kapoor were trailing by a half point at 7/8 each. Akshat drew with Mrityunjay. Raj lost to Shaon and Ram defeated Medhansh. Shaon won the tournment, Mrityunjay second and Ram third. 12-year-old Ramanuj Mishra scored 7/9 to be placed tenth. Despite missing the first round, he finished well. He is the youngest top ten finisher of the event.

A total of 471 players took part from all over the country, and one from New Zealand, Senegal and USA each. The five-day nine round Rating Open tournament was organized by Matrix Chess Academy at Abhinav Global School in New Delhi from 3rd to 7th January 2025. The time control of the event was 90 minutes + 30 seconds increment from move no.1.
