Soham Bhattacharyya dominates 1st SXCCAA All Bengal Rapid Rating Open 2024

Soham Bhattacharyya scored an unbeaten 10.5/11 to win 1st SXCCAA All Bengal Rapid Rating Open 2024. He won the tournament with a round to spare. Soham finished a whopping 1.5 points ahead of the competition. Five players - Sneha Halder, Maitreyi Mondal, Debapriya Manna, Jion Ghosh and Swapnabha Neogi scored 9/11 each. They were placed second to sixth each respectively according to tie-breaks. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹200000. The top three prizes were ₹20000, ₹16000 and ₹12000 along with a trophy each respectively. World no.4 and India no.1 - GM Arjun Erigaisi was the Chief Guest at the closing ceremony. I recently came across a nice story shared by GM Magesh Panchanathan. He shared his thoughts on the concepts of ‘Experiencing self’ and ‘remembering self’, which were explained by Daniel Kahneman. The Experiencing Self is the one who ‘enjoys’ the present moment and the Remembering Self is the one who ‘remembers’ the important parts of the experiencing self. If you observe, we generally focus on the ‘remembering self’ in our life. We remember the blunder made during the game and ignore the beautiful tactics played earlier. It’s a bit unfortunate, isn’t it? At the Olympiad, players will likely remember the event based on the good or bad outcome of their games. But we will share some pictures which will show the ‘experiencing self’ moments of our players. Let’s remind them that these might be their memorable moments from the event.

45th Chess Olympiad R6: India beats Hungary and Armenia, scores a double hat-trick, emerges sole leader

One could not have asked for a better start for the Indian teams at the 45th Chess Olympiad 2024. India scored a double hat-trick of wins to emerge sole leader in both Open and Women events. Arjun Erigaisi and Vidit Gujrathi scored the key victories over Sanan Sjugirov and Benjamin Gledura respectively. D Gukesh and R Praggnanandhaa held the fort by making solid draws against Richard Rapport and Peter Leko respectively. IM Divya Deshmukh scored the sole win for her team against GM Elina Danielian. It helped the Indian Women's team beat Armenia 2.5-1.5. IM Tania Sachdev is the only one who had a winning chance against IM Anna Sargsyan. Today is the sole rest day of the event. India will face China in the Open and Georgia in Women in Round 7. This can prove to be the most critical round of the event to have serious implications for Gold. 45th Chess Olympiad R5: Arjun Erigaisi scores fifth win in-a-row, India keeps leading in both Open and Women

India maintains their impressive momentum by winning their fifth consecutive match at 45th Chess Olympiad 2024. India defeated Azerbaijan convincingly 3-1. Indian women won against Kazakhstan by a minimum margin 1.5-2.5. It was GM D Gukesh and GM Arjun Erigaisi who scored the key wins over GM Aydin Suleymanli (AZE) and GM Rauf Mamedov (AZE) respectively. GM Vidit Gujrathi missed a win over GM Shakhriyar Mamedyarov (AZE). Among Women, GM Harika Dronavalli suffered her second loss of the event, it was against IM Bibisara Assaubayeva (KAZ). GM R Vaishali and IM Vantika Agrawal ensured the team's victory. IM Divya Deshmukh was held to a draw by WIM Xeniya Balabayeva (KAZ). 45th Chess Olympiad R4: Gukesh channels Magnus, Ukraine and Vietnam upset USA and Uzbekistan

Indian teams continue their winning streak at 45th Chess Olympiad 2024. Both men and women team registered their fourth win in Open and Women section. Serbia went down India by 0.5-3.5. D Gukesh and Vidit Gujrathi showed their expertise in the endgame against Alexandr Predke and Velimir Ivic respectively. Gukesh channeled the endgame expert Magnus Carlsen in his game. Arjun Erigaisi once again showed his sharp play to score a win against Aleksandar Indjic. Among the Women, India defeated France 3.5-0.5. GM Harika Dronavalli and IM Tania Sachdev scored with ease against IM Deimante Daulyte-Cornette and WIM Natacha Benmesbah respectvely. IM Divya Deshmukh defeated WGM Mitra Hejazipour in a rollercoaster battle which could have ended either way. Indian men will face Azerbaijan and women Kazakhstan in Round 5. JDCA invites you to 2nd Jaffna International Chess Championship 2024 in Sri Lanka

Jaffna District Chess Association invites you to 2nd Jaffna International Chess Championship 2024. The second edition is offering a first prize of LKR 200000 and a total prize fund of LKR 2.4 Million. A total of 150 individual prizes are up for grabs. Entry is FREE for GM, IM, WGM, WIM, FM, WFMs and players rated above 2000. Travel grant is offered to GM, IM, WGM, WIMs. Apart from a Classical tournament, there is a Blitz tournament on 1st December 2024. The winner of the inauguration edition last year was IM Anup Deshmukh. Indian players have gotten a lot of success at various tournaments in all over Sri Lanka since last year. 45th Chess Olympiad R3: Arjun Erigaisi annihilates Peter Prohaszka

Indian teams scored hat-trick of wins at 45th Chess Olympiad 2024. The men's team defeated Hungary B in the Open section by 3.5-0.5. All three victors - GM D Gukesh, GM R Praggnanandhaa and GM Arjun Erigaisi scored contrasting victories. Gukesh outplayed his opponent positionally, Praggnanandhaa played a solid game and Arjun smashed his opponent with a brilliant attack. GM Vidit Gujrathi had to concede a draw when his opponent GM Gabor Papp forced a repetition. Switzerland went down to Indian women's team 1-3. Only GM Harika Dronavalli suffered a loss against the former Women's world champion, GM Alexandra Kosteniuk. The remaining three - GM R Vaishali, IM Divya Deshmukh and IM Vantika Agrawal scored convincing wins. The 45th Chess Olympiad started with a bang in Budapest. There is so much excitement among the players to compete against the best teams in the world. A total of 380 teams and 1736 players are taking part from 194 (Open) and 180 (Women) countries across the world. It would be interesting to see how each team gives their best to fight against the best. The venue would be full of thousands of people meaning there would be thousands of interesting moments to capture. Sriram Adarsh Uppala superb at 25th Tamil Nadu IM-norm Closed Circuit 2024

Sriram Adarsh Uppala scored an unbeaten 7/9 to win 25th Tamil Nadu IM-norm Closed Circuit Chess Tournament 2024. He also earned his maiden IM-norm in the process. The teenager performed at 2494, gained a whopping 138 Elo rating points and finished a full point ahead of others. IM Alexander Slizhevsky and IM David Gochelashvili scored 6/9 each. They secured second and third place according to tie-breaks. The top three prizes were - US$ 500, $300 and $200 each. The seven-day ten-player round-robin tournament was organized by Tamil Nadu State Chess Association at Hotel Le Palace in Chennai, Tamil Nadu from 22nd to 28th August 2024. Indian teams continue to score wins at 45th Chess Olympiad 2024. The men's team in the Open section scored another 0-4 whitewash win, this time against Iceland. GM D Gukesh played his first game of the event and won convincingly. The remaining three, GM Arjun Erigaisi, GM Vidit Gujrathi and GM Pentala Harkrishna also scored emphatic victories. Harikrishna's win was the most memorable one as played a spectacular move 46.Rc7! In the Women's event, India defeated Czech Republic 3.5-0.5. IM Tania Sachdev is the only one to concede a draw against WIM Martina Korenova. Indian men will face Hungary B and Women will be up against Switzerland in Round 3.
