Nihal Sarin clinches Capechecs Online Trophy

Just days after winning Junior Speed Chess Championship, Nihal Sarin was competing for both team India at the Asian Nations Cup as well as Capechecs Online Trophy. He helped team India get into the Knockout stage and then eventually win Silver at the Finals. That's not all, at the same time, he dominated the Capechecs Online Trophy by remaining unbeaten in the Knockout stage of the tournament. The 16-year-old wunderkind from Kerala scored 8.5/14 in the group stage, beat Bacrot and Cheparinov 2-0 each in the Quarter-finals and Semi-finals respectively. He almost beat Sarana 2-0 also in the Finals but settled for a draw in the second game as it was sufficient for him to win the event. Photo: FIDE

Leon wins Budapest Rigochess and makes his his maiden GM-norm

Leon was supposed to return home in March but due to the travel restrictions caused by pandemic, he got stuck in Budapest. However that did not deter Leon from working towards his goals. He kept playing tournaments. He won a tournament in Serbia in August. Eight months after winning Budapest Rigochess International Chess Festival GM tournament, he won it for the second time in as many times and this time it was sweeter because he also scored his maiden GM-norm. Asian Online Nations: Indian Women clinch Gold, Men win Silver

Indian Women looked strong from the beginning of the tournament and they finished strong by beating Indonesia emphatically 6-2 to clinch the Gold. Both Padmini and Nandhiddaa were absolutely fantastic in the knockout stage as they scored 6.0/6 each respectively, Bhakti contributed an important 3.5/4 and Vaishali scored 4.5/6. Captain Mary Ann made two important draws and made all the right decisions. Indian Men's team couldn't overcome the Australia challenge throughout the event as they lost the first Duel by minimum margin 2.5-1.5 and drew the second 2-2, resulting in settling for the Silver. Asian Nations Online: Indian Men and Women are through to the Finals

Indian Men and Women are aiming for Gold as they are looking the strongest they have ever been in the entire event. Adhiban is back in his form, so is Sethuraman. Only Sasikiran suffered the sole defeat among the Indian in the entire Semi-Final. Indian Men beat Kazakhstan 5.5-2.5 and Indian Women beat Mongolia 7.5-0.5 in the Semi-Finals. The Women's team scored the exact same score as Quarter-Finals, only their first and second Duel scores got interchanged. The Men's team will face Australia and Women's team will be up against Indonesia in the Finals tomorrow on Sunday 25th October from 11:30 a.m. IST onwards. Asian Nations Online: Indian Men and Women rush to the Semi-Finals

Both Indian Men and Women made a brilliant start to the Knockout stages by beating Mongolia and Kyrgyzstan respectively. While the Men's team registering both victories of the Duel by narrowest margin, the Women's team whitewashed in the first battle and in the second one they conceded only one draw. With Adhiban, Sethuraman coming back to form, one can only hope Indian Men will go for nothing less than Gold. Each player is randomly drawn into one Qualifier event and they all start at 5 p.m. IST. Five players each from Under-14, Under-19 and Open category from each Qualifiers will advance to the Finals which will take place on 31st October. Asian Online Nations Cup Quarter-Finals: Men against Mongolia, women versus Kyrgyzstan

We have entered the final three days of the Asian Online Nations Cup 2020. Team India will has made it to the final 8 in both open and women sections. From now onwards there is no margin for error as the format is Knock-out. The open team will now face Mongolia in the Quarter Finals, while the women team will be up against Kyrgyzstan. The individual board medals were given after the nine rounds of Swiss league itself and have been won by Nihal Sarin, Vaishali and Mary Ann Gomes (Gold), Sasikiran and Padmini Rout (Silver).
