30th Abu Dhabi Masters R6: Raunak and Pranav V join Leon in the leaders' pack

GM Leon Luke Mendonca drew with GM Volodar Murzin in Round 6 to maintain his lead at 30th Abu Dhabi Masters 2024. GM Raunak Sadhwani and GM Pranav V defeated GM Bharath Subramaniyam H and GM Klementy Sychev respectively to join the leaders. GM Aravindh Chithambaram defeated Tong Xiao (CHN) to reduce the gap. GM Adhiban B drew with GM S L Narayanan to stay in the hunt. IM-elect FM Goutham Krishna H bounced back with a win over GM Lorenzo Lodici (ITA). Murzin, GM Nodirbek Yakubboev (UZB), GM David Paravyan, Pranav, Leon, Raunak and GM Shamsiddin Vokhidov (UZB) are the seven players at 5/6 each. 61st National Championship R5: Surya, Neelash and Aronyak make a perfect start 5/5

GM Surya Sekhar Ganguly (PSPB), IM Neelash Saha (RSPB) and IM Aronyak Ghosh (RSPB) are the three leaders after the fifth round of 61st National Championship 2024. The top seed, Surya won a tough battle against GM Deep Sengupta (PSPB). The latter made a positional mistake which allowed his opponent to get an initiative and later do a beautiful combination. Neelash showed fantastic positional understanding to beat GM Sankalp Gupta (MAH). IM Aronyak Ghosh (RSPB) returned the in-form GM Venkatesh M R's (PSPB) exchange sacrifice and later seized his opportunity in the endgame. Tbilisi GP Round 6: Vaishali loses two in-a-row

GM R Vaishali lost her second consecutive game at FIDE Tbilisi GP 2024. She made a few unforced errors which increased the vulnerability of her. IM Alina Kashlinskaya (POL) scored her first win and joined four other women in the lead. GM Nana Dzagnidze (GEO) was on the verge of her second consecutive win. However, she could not maintain her advantage and IM Bibisara Assaubayeva (KAZ) escaped with a draw. Bibisara, GM Mariya Muzychuk (UKR), IM Stavroula Tsolakidou (GRE), Dzagnidze and Kashlinskaya are the leaders 3.5/6. Vaishali will face GM Anna Muzychuk (UKR) in Round 7. Shubhash Pawar wins Chess Challenge 2.0 with a perfect score

The Chess Challenge 2.0 was held at the Chembur Children's Home on 17th of August 2024. 12-year-old Shubhash Pawar won the event with a score of 6.0/6. The event was organized by Teach Chess India and sponsored by Lion's Club and many people came together to make this happen. We bring you a pictorial report of what transpired on this beautiful day.

GM Leon Luke Mendonca defeated GM Lorenzo Lodici (ITA) to stay in the lead after the fifth round of 30th Abu Dhabi Masters 2024. Leon had a back and forth battle which could have gone either way. The Italy no.3 made a one-move piece blunder which cost him the game. Leon, GM Volodar Murzin and GM David Paravyan are in a three-way lead 4.5/5 each. 13 players are trailing them by a half point 4/5. There are five Indians among them - GM Pranav V, GM B Adhiban, GM S L Narayanan, GM Bharath Subramaniyam H and GM Raunak Sadhwani. 61st National Championship R4: Raihaan Zahid stuns Lalit Rohit

The fourth round of 61st National Championship 2024 witnessed two major upsets. 12-year-old Raihaan Zahid (TEL) completely decimated GM Lalit Rohit (AP). The boy responded well to delayed Schilemann and launched a devastating attack on the kingside. Vignesh Advaith Vemula (TEL) scored the other upset against GM Abhijeet Gupta (PSPB). India's latest GM P Shyaam Nikhil held the second seed and the defending champion, GM Sethuraman S P (PSPB) to a draw. GM Venkatesh M R (PSPB) played beautiful chess to beat GM Pa Iniyan (TN). Sinquefield Cup R2: Ding Liren forces a draw again

All five games of the second round of Grand Chess Tour Sinquefield Cup 2024 ended in draws. The world champion Ding Liren (CHN) forced a draw via perpetual check for the second consecutive round. This time against Anish Giri (NED). D Gukesh had a well contested draw against Ian Nepomniachtchi. He could have gained a pawn heading into the queen and rook endgame. However, it would not have made a significant difference. Tbilisi GP Round 5: Vaishali stumbles at the finish line versus Mariya

GM R Vaishali blundered in a winning position in Round 5 of FIDE Tbilisi GP 2024. Vaishali had an advantage for the better part of the middlegame. In time trouble, she went for an all-out attack against the former women's world champion, GM Mariya Muzychuk (UKR). GM Nana Dzagnidze (GEO) made a strong comeback. After saving a half point in a lost endgame in the previous round, she defeated GM Alexandra Kosteniuk (SUI) convincingly. IM Sarasadat Khademalsharieh (ESP) scored her first win of the event against IM Lela Javakhishvili (GEO). IM Alina Kashlinskaya (POL) missed a win against IM Stavroula Tsolakidou (GRE). IM-elect FM Goutham Krishna H defeated his second consecutive GM in Round 4 of 30th Abu Dhabi Masters 2024. The Brazil no.1, GM Luis Paulo Supi made an incorrect decision to not trade queens at the right time and he had to pay a heavy price for it. He joins 13 more players in the lead 3.5/4. Seven out of the 14 leaders are Indians. They are - GM Pranav V, GM Bharath Subramaniyam H, GM B Adhiban, GM Raunak Sadhwani, GM S L Narayanan and GM Leon Luke Mendonca. The reigning World Junior champion, IM Divya Deshmukh made a great escape from a losing endgame against Turkiye's youngest GM in history - Yagiz Kaan Erdogmus. The first round of Grand Chess Tour Sinquefield Cup 2024 witnessed the highly anticipated match between Ding Liren (CHN) and D Gukesh. The world champion forced a draw via perpetual check by sacrificing his bishop and rook. The world championship challenger had no choice but to accept it. Ding mentioned that he wanted to surprise his opponent in the opening and also save his preparation. The defending champion, Fabiano Caruana (USA) suffered a shocking loss against the newly crowned Saint Louis Rapid and Blitz 2024 winner, Alireza Firouzja (FRA). Siddhant Gawai (MAH) played fantastic against GM Abhijeet Gupta (PSPB) in Round 3 of 61st National Championship 2024. The teenager drew with the five-time Commonwealth champion. However, the quality of play was very high by Siddhant. WFM Shubhi Gupta (UP) also put up a good fight against the top seed, GM Surya Sekhar Ganguly (PSPB). She missed her chances in the rook endgame to score a half point. A total of 24 players are current having a perfect score 3/3. 13-year-old IM-elect FM Goutham Krishna H defeated GM Nikolas Theodorou (GRE) in Round 3 of 30th Abu Dhabi Masters 2024. The Greece no.1 made a minute positional mistake which the teenager had no trouble capitalizing. IM Srihari L R played fantastic chess against the top seed, GM M Amin Tabatabaei (IRI) to share the point. GM Nodirbek Yakubboev (UZB) and GM Volodar Murzin are the only two players at 3/3 each. They are followed by 36 players including 15 Indians at 2.5/3. 17-year-old untitled Kushal R Jani is having a fantastic tournament. Rishideep Bordoloi (ASM) and CM Shadhursshaan R (TN) drew with GM Neelotpal Das (PSPB) and GM Laxman R R (RSPB) respectively. 13-year-old Abhinav Raj (DEL) put up a good fight against GM Pa Iniyan (TN). The teenager made an incorrect decision in a balanced rook and bishop endgame which cost him the game. Dinesh Kumar Jaganathan (TN), Sumit Grover (JK) and Aarav Saish Amonkar (KAR) drew with IM Ajay Karthikeyan (TN), IM Sammed Shete (MAH) and IM Rahul Sangma (RSPB) respectively.
