India finishes third at 4th SCO Online Team Tournament 2022

Starting out as the fifth seed, India scored 12/18 along with three other teams. Iran won the 4th Shanghai Cooperation Organization International Online Team Tournament scoring 13/18. China also scored the same, however they were placed second on tie-breaks. India finished third according to tie-breaks. Azerbaijan, China Shanghai and Belarus were placed fourth to sixth. The total prize fund of the tournament was CNY 100000 (approx. ₹1181219). The top three prizes were CNY25000, 15000 and 10000. India comprising of GM Karthikeyan Murali and GM Iniyan P, won approx. ₹118122. Iran wins, China second

Iran no.1 GM Parham Maghsoodloo and GM M Amin Tabatabaei were the members of the winning team. They individually scored 5.5/9 and 7/9 each. China top ten players GM Wei Yi and GM Li Chao B made 4.5/8 and 5.5/8. The entire team skipped the penultimate round. If they had played that round, there was a possibility of them finishing at the top too. GM Karthikeyan Murali and GM Iniyan P scored 6/9 and 6.5/9 respectively to ensure India made a podium finish.

GM Iniyan P scored 6.5/9 and GM Karthikeyan Murali contributed 6/9 towards India's third place finish

A total of 30 players including 16 GMs and 4 IMs from 13 countries took part. The two-day nine-round Swiss league Rapid Online tournament was organized by Chess Management Center of the State General Administration of Sports. It took place at chess.com platform on 19th and 20th November 2022. The time control of the tournament was 15 minutes + 5 seconds increment from move no.1.
