The 87th Tata Steel Masters 2025 is virtually guaranteed to have a winner between D Gukesh and R Praggnanandhaa. Yes, there is a mathematical possibility of Nodirbek Abdusattorov (UZB) catching up with both of them and a three-way Playoff, only if both leaders lose their last round game which is practically highly unlikely scenario. Praggnanandhaa squashed Alexey Sarana (SRB) in 29 moves in the penultimate round. Gukesh drew with Jorden van Foreest (NED) which could have gone either player's way. Devindya Oshini Gunawardhana became the youngest Woman International Master of Sri Lanka last year. She was only 12 years 5 months old at that time. D Gukesh drew with the defending champion, Wei Yi (CHN) to maintain his sole lead 8/11 at 87th Tata Steel Chess Masters 2025. Gukesh is now World no.3 with a live rating 2793.2. R Praggnanandhaa played a fantastic game to beat the World no.2, Fabiano Caruana (USA). Nodirbek Abdusattorov (UZB) drew with Vincent Keymer (GER) to maintain his chase. Kavinkumar G scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win 3rd Sri Chess Academy Below 1800 Rating Tournament 2025. He finished a half point ahead of the rest. Satyanarayana P scored sole 8/9 to secure second place. Niranjan Mochalra, Kannan V, Lanka Marthanda Kumar and Satyajit Sarkar scored 7.5/9 each. They secured third to sixth place respectively according to tie-breaks. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹500000. The top three prizes were ₹50000, ₹40000 and ₹30000 along with a trophy each respectively. Senthil won the tournament due to better tie-break scores. Michal was placed second. FM Loek Van der Hagen (NED) scored 5.5/9 to finish third. The top three prizes were CZK 3000, 2000 and 1000 each. The 18th World Champion, D Gukesh is in a terrific form. He scored his second consecutive win at 87th Tata Steel Masters 2025. Gukesh surprised his opponent with 1...d6 in response to 1.e4. Max Warmerdam (NED) opted for 2.g3. Gukesh got a bit surprised momentarily but he realized that he must have prepared it for some other game before. A positional mistake of incorrect bishop trade offer with Gukesh's bad bishop, turned things in the leader's way. He converted his advantage smoothly to maintain his sole lead 7.5/10. R Praggnanandhaa bounced back with a win against Vladimi Fedoseev (SLO) in a wild game. Nodirbek Abdusattorov (UZB) also had a crazy battle against Alexey Sarana (SRB) to stay in pursuit 7/10. FM Kashish Manoj Jain scored 8/9 to win Prague Open A 2025 at 23rd International Chess Festival part of Czech Tour 2025 series. Kashish finished a full point ahead of the competition. Six players - IM Damian Lewtak (POL), IM Harshavardhan G B, IM Tomas Kulhanek (CZE), IM Senthil Maran K, FM Kim Yew Chan (MAS) and IM Matyas Marek (CZE) scored 7/9 each. They secured second to seventh place respectively according to tie-breaks. Swapnaneel Dowerah scored an unbeaten 8/9 to win DDCA Golden Jubilee Rapid Rating Open 2025. Five players - Rintu Brahma, Abhirup Saikia, Neelabh Jyoti Borthakur, Bijit Chetia and Dhruv Phukan scored 7.5/9 each. They were placed second to sixth respectively according to tie-breaks. Swapnaneel defeated Rintu in the penultimate and drew with Abhirup in the last round. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹160000. The top three prizes were ₹20000, ₹15000 and ₹13000 along with a trophy each respectively. D Gukesh defeated his compatriot, Leon Luke Mendonca in Round 9 of 87th Tata Steel Masters 2025 to gain sole lead 6.5/9. The world champion shared that he did not show anything special in the opening. However, a few positional inaccuracies by his opponent, allowed him to seize his advantage and outplay him. Gukesh's coleader, R Praggnanandhaa suffered his first loss of the event against Anish Giri (NED). Nodirbek Abdusattorov (UZB) drew with World no.2, Fabiano Caruana (USA). Vladimir Fedoseev (SLO) defeated Pentala Harikrishna to join the chase with Abdusattorov. In the Challengers, IM Divya Deshmukh had a solid draw against GM R Vaishali.
