Srihari L R wins 3rd SRM Rapid Rating Open 2025

GM Srihari L R and IM Ravi Teja S scored 8.5/9 each at 3rd SRM Rapid Rating Open 2025. Srihari won the tournament due to better tie-break scores. Ravi secured second place. IM Harshavardhan G B scored sole 8/9 to claim third place. Srihari drew against the eventual runner-up, Ravi in the seventh round. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹250000. The top three prizes were ₹25000 + trophy, ₹20000 and ₹15000 each. The one-day nine round Rapid Rating Open tournament was organized by Golden Knights Chess Academy and Master Mind Chess Academy at SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Vadapalani Campus in Chennai, Tamil Nadu on 13th September 2025. Sharvaanica A S becomes World Cadet Under-10 Girls 2025 Champion, Bronze for Kiyanna and Sarbartho

WCM Sharvaanica A S won Gold in Under-10 Girls category at World Cadet 2025. Despite starting with a loss, she won her next nine games in-a-row and finished the event with a loss too. She had a better tie-break than WCM Chinzorig Nandinjiguur (MGL) as Sharvaanica defeated her in the eighth round. Kiyanna Parihar scored 8.5/11 to win Bronze in the same category. After a brilliant start 6/6, Sarbartho Mani scored 2.5/5 in the last five rounds to score 8.5/11 and get a Bronze medal in Under-10 Open group. Nihal Sarin reaches 2700

Nihal Sarin finally reached the coveted 2700 rating in a published FIDE Rating list. He became the tenth Indian to achieve so. The 21-year-old from Kerala, gained 9.9 Elo rating points at FIDE Grand Swiss 2025. Arjun Erigaisi returned to World no.4, after adding 1.5 Elo rating points. R Praggnanandhaa slipped to World no.5. World Champion, D Gukesh moved out of World Top ten for the first time since May 2024. There are still six Indians in Top 30. Among the Women, four are in Top 20. FIDE Women's World Cup winner, GM Divya Deshmukh returned to World no.11 among Women after her stellar performance at the FIDE Grand Swiss 2025 Open. Manish Anto Cristiano marvels at 2nd Smart Chess Academy Karur Rapid Rating Open 2025

IM Manish Anto Cristiano F scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win 2nd Smart Chess Academy Karur Rapid Rating Open 2025. He finished a half point ahead of the field. GM Laxman R R, IM Ramnathan Balasubramaniam and Tarun V scored 8/9 each. They secured second, third and fourth place respectively according to tie-breaks. Manish defeated the eventual runner-up, Laxman in the seventh round. The total prize fund was ₹240000. The top three prizes were ₹20000, ₹17500 and ₹15000 along with a trophy each. The one-day nine round Rapid Rating tournament was organized by Smart Chess Academy, Karur at Arasu College of Arts & Science for Women in Karur, Tamil Nadu on 7th September 2025. This is Manish's first rating tournament triumph of the year.

GM Mitrabha Guha scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win 3rd KTBS Rapid Rating Open 2025. He finished a half point ahead of the rest. IM Srijit Paul scored sole 8/9 to secure second place. He also remained undefeated. Half a dozen players scored 7.5/9 each. Out of them, Pushkar Dere was placed third according to the tie-break scores. The total prize fund was ₹300000. The top three prizes were ₹50000, ₹25000 and ₹20000 along with a trophy each. The one-day nine round Rapid Rating tournament was organized by Kalyan Taluka Buddhibal Sanstha at Metro Junction Mall in Kalyan, Maharashtra on 7th September 2025. This is Mitrabha's twelfth overall, eleventh rating tournament triumph of the year.

Iniyan stuns Sasikiran, on the verge of winning 62nd National Championship

The reigning National Rapid champion, GM Iniyan Pa (TN) answered the perennial question. He defeated GM Sasikiran Krishnan (PSPB) to gain sole lead 8.5/10, heading into the final round of 62nd National Championship. He has the opportunity to become a double champion if he manages to win the tournament tomorrow. IM Goutham Krishna H (KER) drew his game against IM Vignesh Advaith Vemula (TEL) to stay in the race. GM Abhijeet Gupta (PSPB), IM Ayush Sharma (RSPB) and IM Viani Antonio Dcunha (KAR) are also in the fray. They won their respective games to move to 8/10. Former National U-7 Girls Champion and Asian Youth U-8 Girls Champion (Classical & Rapid) Narayani Marathe comes from a small town in Maharashtra, called Nandurbar. But her talent has taken her dreams far beyond its borders. Her achievements stand out even more when you realize the challenges her family faced in supporting her chess journey. Sachin Ranade, a New York-based finance professional, has been financially supporting her since September 2024 through consistent monthly contributions. GM R Praggnanandhaa opted for the Caro-Kann with the black pieces in the second Semifinal game of Grand Chess Tour 2025 Finals. The World Blitz 2021 champion got surprised momentarily. However, the game ended in a draw in just 21 moves. The battle between Levon Aronian (USA) and Fabiano Caruana (USA) also ended in a draw. It lasted five more moves than the other game. In every sphere of life, there comes a time when the next generation takes over the old guard. In sports, it is generally earned not given. On the top board, IM Ayush Sharma (RSPB) showed incredible resiliency and resourcefulness to salvage a draw against the legend, GM Sasikiran Krishnan (PSPB). Despite having an inferior position, Ayush did not give up, instead, he found a way to stay in the fight. It is very much possible that IM Anup Deshmukh's (MAH), Ayush's coach and mentor's pre-game words inspired him to fight well. Kartavya Anadkat and Shrayan Majumder scored 8/9 each at 2nd Royal Jaipur Rapid Rating Open 2025. Kartavya won the tournament as he had the better tie-break score. Shrayan secured second place. Four players - FM Garv Gaur, Daksh Goyal, IM Anuj Shrivatri and Vivek Sharma scored 7.5/9 each. They were placed third to sixth respectively. Only Kartavya remained undefeated. The total prize fund was ₹750000. The top three prizes were ₹75000, ₹50000 and ₹30000 along with a trophy each. GM R Praggnanandhaa made a shaky start in the first Semifinal game of Grand Chess Tour 2025 Finals. The World no.4 made an inaccuracy in the rook and few pawns endgame which shifted the balance in favor of GM Maxime Vachier-Lagrave (FRA). The World Blitz 2021 after initially seizing his opportunity, could not make the most out of it and allowed his opponent to escape with a draw. Thus, both players got three points each. GM Sasikiran Krishnan (PSPB) defeated GM Deep Sengupta (PSPB) to maintain his lead at 62nd National Championship 2025. Deep self-exiled his own king by pushing it towards the corner of the board. It cost him the game. GM Abhijeet Gupta (PSPB) got the better of IM Ajay Santhosh Parvathareddy (UP) who went wrong in a complex rook and minor piece endgame with both sides having the same number of pawns. The top seed of the tournament and reigning National Rapid champion, GM Iniyan Pa (TN) crushed IM Harsh Suresh (TN) with a brutal attack on his king. The Grand Chess Tour 2025 Finals starts today at World Trade Center in Sao Paulo, Brazil. R Praggnanandhaa will face Maxime Vachier-Lagrave (FRA) and Fabiano Caruana (USA) will be up against Levon Aronian (USA). Praggnanandhaa and Caruana will get the white pieces in the first Classical game. They will have reversed colors in Rapid and Blitz matches. Each Semifinal consists of two Classical, two Rapid and four Blitz games. All matches will be played to completion, even if the match is already decided. Each match will have a maximum of 28 points. The top six boards ended in a draw in 31 moves or less at 62nd National Championship 2025 Round 7. It allowed GM Deep Sengupta (PSPB), GM-elect IM Ayush Sharma (RSPB) and IM Harsh Suresh (TN) to catch up. Deep defeated IM Sidhant Mohapatra (RSPB) who went wrong in the double rook and knight endgame. Deep's passed pawn was superior which helped him earn the victory. Ayush thwarted IM Manish Anto Cristiano F's (TN) ambitious knight sacrifice. Harsh capitalized on IM Subhayan Kundu's (RSPB) late mistake ina rook and many pawns endgame. Seven players including the previous day leaders - GM Sasikiran Krishan (PSPB), IM Aronyak Ghosh (RSPB), IM Ajay Santhosh Parvathareddy (UP) and GM Abhijeet Gupta (PSPB) are now at 6/7 each.
