3rd Gujarat GM Open R2-3: Anup Deshmukh scores a sublime victory

Revered IM Anup Deshmukh scored a beautiful win against GM Mikel Huerga Leache (ESP). It was a model game on how to convert an advantage into a victory. GM Boris Savchenko, GM Stany G A and GM Harsha Bharathakoti were held to a draw each by WIM Arpita Mukherjee, FM Aradhya Garg and FM L M S T De Silva (SRI). FM Kashish Manoj Jain missed plenty of chances to beat GM Cristhian Camilo Rios (COL). Tears rolled down the eyes of many readers, many finished the article laughing knowing that it was a prank, some were just confused! Such a plethora of emotions reading the same article is not normal, but it happened when we published the article of India no.2 Vidit Gujrathi making a big announcement! It was about retiring from chess at the age of just 27 years. Of course, it was an April Fool's Day prank! India no.2 and world no.23, Vidit Gujrathi is nowhere close to quitting chess. In fact we bring to you an exclusive video of him solving 5 quite tough positions blindfolded.

India no.2 Vidit Gujrathi makes a big announcement

2020-2022 has been quite a confusing period for Vidit Gujrathi. The current India no.2 was the captain of the Indian team that won the Online Olympiad Gold in 2020. He also reached the quarter finals of the FIDE World Cup 2021. Apart from that he reached a career high live rating of 2740. All of these seem like good achievements, don't they? Well, there were many downs as well - Vidit didn't perform up to the mark at all the events of Champions Chess Tour. Tata Steel Chess India was a debacle and he fell short in both FIDE Grand Swiss and Grand Prix. Based on all these factors Vidit has made a huge announcement, and in this article we bring it in front of you. 

MPL Indian Chess Tour 2022 leg 1 R1-4: Leon Luke Mendonca grabs sole lead 10.0/12

Leon Luke Mendonca has emerged as the early sole leader 10.0/12 after Round 4 of MPL Indian Chess Tour leg 1. Despite starting the day with a draw against Abhimanyu Puranik, he managed to win the next three games against Sankalp Gupta, tournament's top seed Arjun Erigaisi and Adhiban. The only other player to score a hat-trick was Raunak Sadhwani. After having a 2900 performance at Bundesliga, Raunak bounced back well from a first round loss against Gukesh. He went on to defeat Sethuraman, Abhijeet Gupta and Iniyan. He is now at sole second place 9.0/12, closely followed by Surya Sekhar Ganguly 8.0/12 and D Gukesh 7.0/12. 3rd Gujarat GM Open R1: Akshit Kacha swindles IM Shahil Dey

1367-rated Akshit Kacha completely turned his fate and beat IM Shahil Dey in the first round of 3rd Gujarat International GM Open 2022. The untitled teenager chose a sideline in the French Tarrasch and was losing for the better part of the game. However, in the endgame, Shahil miscalculated his chances with a passed pawn and lost material. The 3rd edition of Gujarat's strongest and most important tournament witnesses the participation of 374 players including 14 GMs, 30 IMs and 3 WIM from 14 countries across the world including India. Arghyadip Das wins 16th BRDCA All India Rapid Rating Open 2022

IM Arghyadip Das scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 and finished a half point ahead of the competition to win 16th BRDCA All India Rapid Rating Open 2022. His only draw was against Sanjeev Mishra in the seventh round. Three players scored 8.0/9 - Balkishan A, Prasanna S and FM Sharan Rao. They were placed second to fourth according to the tie-breaks. Arghyadip won ₹25000 cash and a trophy, Runner-up Balkishan earned ₹18000 and a trophy, and Prasanna received ₹15000 cash as their respective prize. Total prize fund of the tournament was ₹200000. 18-year-old Dhanush Raghav N S won 11th BRDCA Blitz Open. Total prize fund for Blitz event was ₹40000.

MPL Indian Chess Tour 2022 starts today

18-year-old newly-crowned MPL 58th National Senior champion, India no.4 Arjun Erigaisi will be the top seed in the $100,000 MPL Indian Chess Tour. The new online Tour features four 16-player tournaments, with the winner of each event qualifying to the Meltwater Champions Chess Tour. The four winners and four next highest scoring players of the Tour also qualify for a knockout Tour final with a $10,000 top prize. Hikaru Nakamura and Richard Rapport in the Candidates 2022

Hikaru Nakamura beat Andrey Esipenko in the sixth round of the third leg of FIDE Grand Prix this past Monday at Berlin, Germany. He topped Pool A and advanced to the Semifinals. The Speed King secured at least 20 points which is also secured by Richard Rapport after he won the FIDE Belgrade GP earlier this month. There is no mathematical way for any other GP participants to gain more points than them, thus Nakamura and Rapport have secured their place in the FIDE Candidates 2022. Nakamura and Rapport joins Nepomniachtchi, Radjabov, Duda, Firouzja and Caruana at the Candidates which will start on 17th June at Madrid, Spain. Ding Liren is trying to earn the final spot. Indefatigable Arjun Erigaisi scores a hat-trick by winning 19th Delhi GM Open 2022

GM Arjun Erigaisi clinched his third individual and fourth overall tournament of the year 2022. He started the year by winning Tata Steel Challengers, then he conquered MPL 58th National Senior Open. He was instrumental in Bangladesh Police's hat-trick triumph at Bangladesh Premier League. Nine days later, Arjun clinched the 19th Delhi International GM Open 2022. GM D Gukesh and GM Harsha Bharathakoti also scored the same 8.5/10. They were placed second and third according to the tie-breaks. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹25,00,000. India clinches double Gold at Asian Nations Cup Online U-14 Open and Girls Team 2022

India dominated Asian Nations Cup Online Under-14 Team Chess Championship 2022 in both Open and Girls events. India also won a Bronze medal in the Open. That's not all. Among Board prizes, India won four Golds, five Silver and one Bronze combining both. Rosh Jain 8.0/9, CM Mrithyunjay Mahadevan 7.0/8 and CM Jaivardhan Raj 5.0/7 are the top performer for the Gold medal winning India B team in the Open. 19th Delhi GM Open R9: Abhijeet and Sethuraman in the title fray

19th Delhi International GM Open 2022 is certainly heading for an exciting finish. Five players are in the lead 7.5/9 heading into the final round. They are - Arjun Erigaisi, Sethuraman, Gukesh, Harsha Bharathakoti and Abhijeet Gupta. While Arjun has the best tie-break among the lot, a final round draw will allow any of the remaining to clinch the championship. He must beat Karthik Venkataraman in the final round to increase his odds. Abhijeet will face Gukesh and Sethuraman against Harsha in the final round, where everyone will go for full point to increase their chances to win the tournament. 19th Delhi GM Open R8: Arjun Erigaisi, Harsha and Gukesh in a three-way race

The competition is getting tough and things are heating up fast as the top six boards had only decisive results in the eighth round of 19th Delhi International GM Open 2022. Four out of top five boards ended in 30 moves or less. Arjun Erigaisi, Harsha Bharathakoti and D Gukesh are in the lead 7.0/8. They are closely followed by GM Sethuraman, FM Seyed Kian Poormosavi, IM Neelash Saha and the defending champion GM Abhijeet Gupta. Magnus Carlsen wins Charity Cup in a thrilling Final

Jan-Krzysztof Duda made an excellent comeback in the second set of Finals. Despite being in a must-win situation, he started the day with a loss. Then he won the next two games. The third game can easily be called a masterpiece by Duda, although he missed an earlier win. The fourth game was drawn which meant Duda won the second set 1.5-2.5. However, Magnus Carlsen showed why he is the world champion by winning both tie-break Blitz games without giving any opportunity to his opponent. Carlsen won the Charity Cup, his second consecutive Meltwater Champions Chess Tour event of the 2022 season. The next event of the tour will be a Major which starts on 20th April. Photo: chess24
