MCCT Finals R5: Praggnanandhaa wins a thriller against Duda

R Praggnanandhaa had his best match of MCCT Finals so far against Jan-Krzysztof Duda. They had six decisive games and White won in them all. They were trading wins and the 17-year-old won a must-win fourth game to force tie-breaks. The teenager started the tie-breaks with a win which put Duda in a must-win situation and he won that. Praggnanandhaa drew the Armageddon with black pieces. Thus, he won the match. Arjun Erigaisi made a short work of Anish Giri in just three games. Former World Blitz champion, Liem Quang Le stretched Magnus Carlsen to his limit and the World no.1 had to win the Armageddon to clinch the match. Carlsen vs Praggnanandhaa and Liem vs Arjun is set for Round 6 which starts tonight, 20th November at 1:30 a.m. IST. Subhayan Kundu dominates 3rd DD-DBCA Rating Open 2022

Top seed of the tournament, Subhayan Kundu scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win 3rd DD-DBCA Rating Open 2022. He finished a full point ahead of the competition. Kunal Chatterjee, Anurag Jaiswal and Ritabrata Chakraborty scored 7.5/9 each. They were placed second, third and fourth according to tie-breaks. Fifth place finisher Vivek Sharma was the only one to extract a half point from the eventual champion, Subhayan. The total cash prize fund of the tournament was ₹300000. Commonwealth 2022 R1-4: Mitrabha outwits Aravindh, gains sole lead

India's 72nd GM Mitrabha Guha scored a big victory over the top seed of the tournament, GM Aravindh Chithambaram. Their rivalry started over nine years ago and so far they have had only one draw in their nine encounters. Mitrabha won an exciting battle to gain sole lead 4/4. GM-elect IM Pranesh M is one of the six players at 3.5/4. He defeated a former Commonwealth Gold medalist, GM Deep Sengupta in the fourth round. The teenager is also leading the Under-14 Open with a perfect 4/4. WGM-elect Sakshi Chitlange and veteran WIM Bhagyashree Thipsay are currently the top female scorers at 3/4 each. MCCT Finals R4: Arjun Erigaisi beats Mamedyarov, ends his win drought

Arjun Erigaisi scored his first point in the fourth round of Meltwater Champions Chess Tour Finals. After missing a win in the first game, the teenager ensured that he does not let another opportunity slip by. He won the second one by seizing his material advantage in the endgame. In the third game, he missed a slightly difficult tactic. However, in the fourth game he made a beautiful finish to win the match 1-3 in his favor. Praggnanandhaa drew three games and lost one against So to lose the match 1.5-2.5. He just needed to be unafraid in the third game to avoid a loss. Carlsen and Liem were the other two victors of the round against Giri and Duda respectively. Kaustuv Kundu conquers 3rd TTCA Rating Open 2022

Kaustuv Kundu scored an unbeaten 8/9 to win 3rd TTCA Rating Open 2022. He finished a half point ahead of the field. S Prasanna and Arpan Das made 7.5/9 each. They were placed second and third according to tie-breaks. Kaustuv defeated the eventual runner-up in the seventh round. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹360000. The top three prizes were ₹55000, ₹40000 and ₹25000 along with a trophy each. A total of 238 players took part in this event. MCCT Finals R3: Praggnanandhaa squashes Liem 3-0

Praggnanandhaa scored his first match victory in the third round of Meltwater Champions Chess Tour Finals. He defeated the former World Blitz champion, Liem Quang Le in three consecutive games. In all three games, the 17-year-old showed a fantastic positional understanding, punctuated by his sharp tactical awareness. This 3-0 win propelled him to the fourth spot on the points table, sharing the same score 4/9 with Giri and Liem. Arjun Erigaisi's tough form continues as he suffered another loss in just three games. This time against the former World Fischer Random champion, Wesley So. Carlsen defeated Mamedyarov 3-0 and Duda defeated Giri 2.5-0.5. Round 4 pairings are, Praggnanandhaa vs So and Mamedyarov vs Arjun Erigaisi, starting tonight 18th November at 1:30 a.m. IST. 54-year-old P D S Girinath triumphs at 1st BongCloud Rapid Rating Open 2022

Generally, we almost always see a young player creating/breaking new record quite often. It's time to rejoice for adults and veterans as IM P D S Girinath scored eight straight victories at 1st BongCloud Rapid Rating Open 2022. A last round loss did not affect his first place position. Three more players - FM R Ashwath, IM Kushagra Mohan and top seed GM Thej Kumar M S scored 8/9 each. They were placed second to fourth according to tie-breaks. Thej was the only one to beat the eventual champion. Girinath showed that age is just a number. Vignesh N R clinches 34th All India Railway Chess Championship 2022

IM Vignesh N R of Southern Railway scored an unbeaten 6/7 to win 34th All India Inter Railways Individual Chess Championship 2022. Vignesh has also won the previous edition which took place early this year. He finished second in his debut year 2019. Thus, Vignesh's three performance at All India Railways have been a second place finish and two as champion which is certainly outstanding. Four players scored 5.5/7 each. GM Swapnil Dhopade of Central Railway and GM Karthikeyan P of ICF were adjudged second and third respectively according to tie-breaks. MCCT Finals R2: Giri makes a comeback against Praggnanandhaa

Praggnanandhaa made a fantastic start by winning the first two games of Round 2. However, Giri bounced back by winning the next two and forced tie-breaks. The World no.7 won the first Blitz tie-break and drew the second to win the match. Arjun Erigaisi should have drawn his first game against Magnus Carlsen in the queen endgame. An incorrect queen trade offer cost him the game. He drew the next and lost the third one which allowed the World no.1 to win the second round encounter. Liem also took only three games to win his match against So. Duda defeated Mamedyarov without conceding a single loss. MCCT Finals R1: Tough start for Arjun and Praggnanandhaa

Both Arjun Erigaisi and Praggnanandhaa started with a loss at Meltwater Champions Chess Tour 2022 Finals. Arjun Erigaisi did not manage to score a single win in the first round against Jan-Krzysztof Duda. He got a great opportunity in the very first game. However, a fumble allowed the FIDE World Cup 2021 winner to get back in the game. Praggnanandhaa managed to level the score in the third game after starting the day with a loss and a draw. However, another loss in the fourth game meant him losing the match. Carlsen defeated So and Giri beat Liem in tie-breaks. Praggnanandhaa will face Giri and Arjun will be up against Carlsen in Round 2 which starts tonight 16th November at 1:30 a.m. IST. Launching ChessPa in Chess Adventure Park - a children's chess book

ChessPa in Chess Adventure Park was a passion project of Amruta Mokal, the co-founder and COO of ChessBase India. She teamed up with Ketaki Kulkarni and Sagar Shah and together they created a book that is a very unique offering for young kids to learn the game of chess in a fun and interactive way. What is the right age to learn chess, you may ask? With this book even a 1-year-old kid can enjoy the illustrations and the parents can kickstart the kid's journey in the world of chess. Tour champion, Magnus Carlsen will be joined by Jan-Krzysztof Duda, Liem Quang Le, Wesley So, Shakhriyar Mamedyarov, R Praggnanandhaa, Arjun Erigaisi and Anish Giri. Four players - Carlsen, So, Praggnanandhaa and Giri will compete from SHACK15 in San Francisco, California in USA, while the other four will play remotely in a unique online and in-person hybrid round-robin tournament.
