Hari Madhavan N B wins 2nd SRM Rapid Rating Open 2023

IM Hari Madhavan N B and IM Nitin S scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 at 2nd SRM Rapid Rating Open 2023. Hari won the tournament due to better tie-breaks, Nitin secured second place. Eight players scored 8/9. Out of them, GM Laxman R R was adjudged third according to tie-breaks. Top four remained undefeated. Hari's sole draw occured in the sixth round against Arjun C Krishnamachari. Nitin's lone draw was against the eventual second runner-up, Laxman in the penultimate round. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹200000. Ayush Sharma becomes the third International Master from Madhya Pradesh

18-year-old Ayush Sharma became India's latest International Master on 21st September 2023. He drew against GM Tigran Harutyunyan (ARM) in the second round of Tsaghkadzor Open 2023 in Armenia, to cross 2400 in the live ratings. The teenager from Khandwa also became the third IM from his state - Madhya Pradesh. Akshat Khamparia became the first one in 2011 and Anuj Shrivatri second in 2020. Ayush earned his maiden IM-norm in October 2021 at IM Ask 2 in Arandjelovac, Serbia. Almost a year later, he secured his second IM-norm and also his maiden GM-norm at 22nd Dubai Open 2022 in Dubai, UAE. The final norm was scored in two months time at Asian Continental 2022 in New Delhi. Pranav Venkatesh once again scored a crucial victory in the final round. Aryan Tari redeemed himself from the penultimate round loss. Raunak Sadhwani scored another solid draw. All these ensured Offerspill Sjakklub beat Asnieres - Le Grand Echiquier to win 38th European Club Cup 2023 Open. This is Magnus Carlsen's biggest team event triumph of his career so far. After winning the FIDE World Cup 2023, Carlsen has once again climbed another mountain, something that has eluded him for a long time, clinching a major team championship. India wins double Silver at 19th Asian Games 2022 Team

Indian Men and Women defeated Philippines and Republic of Korea to clinch Silver medals at 19th Asian Games 2022. Indian Men won the final round against Philippines 3.5-0.5. The Women registered their fourth 4-0 whitewash of the event. It was against Republic of Korea in Round 9. Out of 36 games, India lost only one in the team event. In the Men's event, Iran won Gold 16/18, India Silver 15/18 and Uzbekistan Bronze 14/18. China clinched the Gold in the Women 17/18, India Silver 15/18 and Kazakhstan Bronze 13/18. Indian Men and Women certainly delivered a solid performance, earning a double Silver at this long grueling event.

Vaibhav Jayant Raut dominates Bramhapuri Sports City Trophy Rapid Rating Open 2023

CM Vaibhav Jayant Raut scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win Bramhapuri Sports City Trophy Rapid Rating Open 2023. He finished the tournament a full point ahead of the field. Four players - Roneet Das, Saurabh Lokhande, Chetan Deodhagle and Shaunak Badole scored 7.5/9 each. They were placed second to fifth according to tie-breaks. Vaibhav scored eight straight wins before splitting the point with the eventual second runner-up Saurabh in the final round. The total prize fund of the was ₹100000. The top three prizes were ₹20000, ₹15000 and ₹10000 along with a trophy each. Every single prize winner was awarded a trophy. This is Vaibhav's first rating tournament triumph of the year. European Club Cup 2023 R6: Pranav Venkatesh saves the day for Offerspill Sjakklubb

Pranav Venkatesh saved his team Offerspill Sjakklubb from losing a crucial penultimate round match at 38th European Chess Club Cup 2023 Open. The rook endgame against the Dutch no.2 Jorden van Foreest was heading towards a draw. However, Jorden being the defender, needed to play with some precision to score the half point. He didn't and Pranav scored the sole win for his team. It balanced his teammate Aryan Tari's loss. Thus, Offerspill Sjakklubb drew against Superchess 3-3. They both remained coleaders 11/12 heading into the final round. Raunak Sadhwani had a well contested draw against Vishy Anand. 19th Asian Games 2022 Team R8: Indian Men & Women squash Korea & Hong Kong, move closer towards Silver

Indian Men scored a resounding 0.5-3.5 win against Republic of Korea in Round 8 of 19th Asian Games 2022. D Gukesh took a huge risk in a drawn endgame. It paid off as his opponent could not capitalize on his chance and Gukesh won the game. R Praggnanandhaa and Arjun Erigaisi scored comfortable victories. Pentala Harikrishna was in deep trouble against IM Hongjin Ahn. However, the endgame expert somehow managed to salvage a draw to ensure the team does not lose a single game. Indian Women whitewashed Hong Kong 4-0. Indian Men will go up against Philippines in the final round and Indian Women will be up against another minnow - Republic of Korea. Abhimanyu Puranik wins Tsaghkadzor Open 2023, Sasikiran third

GM Abhimanyu Puranik scored an unbeaten 7/9 to Tsaghkadzor Open 2023 A. GM Tigran L Petrosian (ARM), GM Krishnan Sasikiran and GM Pranesh M also the scored the same 7/9 each. However, they were placed second to fourth respectively according to tie-breaks. The top three finishers remained undefeated. FM Ayush Sharma and FM Ritviz Parab became India's latest International Masters on the same day after the conclusion of Round 2. FM Goutham Krishna H scored 6/9 to earn his second IM-norm. GM Bharath Subramaniyam H is the only other Indian to make a top ten finish. He scored 6.5/9 to be placed sixth. The total prize fund of the was 10550000 AMD. Magnus Carlsen scored a crushing victory against Vincent Keymer in the fifth round of 38th European Chess Club Cup 2023 Open. Although, the world no.1 missed an opportunity to trap the teenager's queen, nevertheless his win earned his team Offerspill Sjakklubb two points over the defending champion, Novy Bor. Raunak Sadhwani and Pranav Venkatesh drew against Nils Grandelius and Thai Dai Van Nguyen respectively. Vishy Anand made his third consecutive draw. This time against Haik Martirosyan. Anand's team Superchess managed to beat Asnieres - Le Grand Echiquier. Offerspill Sjakklubb and Superchess will inevitably clash in the penultimate sixth round. Indian Men got back to winning ways by scoring a 2.5-1.5 victory against Vietnam in Round 7 of 19th Asian Games 2022. GM Arjun Erigaisi scored the crucial win of the match against GM Minh Tran Tuan (VIE). GM D Gukesh was the only other Indian who got a decisive advantage. However, he had a difficult time converting it into a win. His opponent, GM Liem Quang Le (VIE) escaped with a draw. GM Harika Dronavalli delivered the equalizer against WGM Meruert Kamalidenova (KAZ). IM Vaishali R lost her game against GM Zhansaya Abdumalik (KAZ). GM Koneru Humpy and IM Vantika Agrawal drew their respective games. Thus, Kazakhstan-India ended in a 2-2 draw. The world no.1 scored a smooth win over Alexey Sarana of Sentimento Ajka BSK. Raunak's hat-trick was in jeopardy as he was lost for quite some time in the middlegame against the Slovakia no.1 Jergus Pechac. Vishy Anand drew his second game in-a-row against Bassem Amin. Anand's team Superchess won against Schachclub Viernheim 1934 e.V. 2.5-3.5. Indian Women registered their second consecutive whitewash victory, this time against Uzbekistan in Round 6 of 19th Asian Games 2022. GM Koneru Humpy, IM Vaishali R, IM Vantika Agrawal and WGM Savitha Shri B, all four of them scored comfortable wins. Unlike the last round, all four games ended in 48 moves or less. Indian Men were held to a draw by China. Only D Gukesh had a realistic chance to push for a win. However, it was not easy. The game ended in a draw and the same result occurred in the remaining three games. Indian Men vs Vietnam and the Women will face Kazakhstan in Round 7. GM Diptayan Ghosh scored an unbeaten 6.5/7 to win ASEAN Chess Series AMK Rapid Rating Open 2023 Section A. Diptayan finished a full point ahead of the field. FM Zhenyong Jayden Wong (SGP) scored 5.5/7 to secure sole second place. Six players scored 5/7 each. Out of them, FM Andrean Susilodinata (INA) was placed third according to tie-breaks. Diptayan had a full point lead heading into the final round. Since a draw was enough to become champion, that's what he did against FM Ellan Asuela (PHI). The total prize fund of the was US$ 6000. However, Offerspill Sjakklubb is the only team which has registered three wins where they scored five game points or more. In the third round, Magnus Carlsen surprised his opponent with 1...a6 in reply to 1.e4. Both Raunak Sadhwani and Pranav Venkatesh won their respective games. Vishy Anand started his event with a draw against Aydin Suleymanli. Nihal Sarin was held to a draw by Andreas Heimann of Schachgesellschaft Riehen. Tajfun SK Ljubljana managed to score a 5-1 victory.
