R Ashwath wins Prague Open 2024 Blitz, 3rd in Rapid
FM R Ashwath scored 9/11 to win Prague Open 2024 D Blitz at 22nd International Chess Festival part of Czech Tour 2024 series. GM Simen Agdestein (NOR), CM Jakub Ocelak (CZE) and FM Pawel Sowinski (POL) also scored 9/11 each. They secured second to fifth places respectively. The top three prizes were CZK 1500, 1000 and 700 each respectively. Vadim Razin (UKR) won the C Rapid event scoring an unbeaten 6.5/7. Five players - Simen, Ashwath, IM Bachana Morchiashvili (GEO), Harshit Amarnani and Jiarong Teng (CHN) scored 6/7 each. They were placed second to sixth respectively. Ashwath shines in Blitz and Rapid
FM R Ashwath made a blazing start in Blitz by winning the first six games. He drew the seventh game before returning to the winning ways in the eighth. His sole loss was against the top seed and eventual runner-up - GM Simen Agdestein (NOR). In the Rapid event, Ashwath remained undefeated. He gained 24 and 23.2 Elo rating points in Blitz and Rapid event respectively.
A total of 146 players including a GM, 3 IMs and a WIM took part from 25 countries across the world. The one-day eleven round Blitz Rating Open tournament was organized by AVE Chess z.s. at Olympik Hotel in Prague, Czech Republic on 10th January 2024. The time control of the event was 3 minutes + 2 seconds increment per move.
