Pratik Gengaje dominates 17th Paleochora International B 2024 with a perfect score

Third seed Pratik Gengaje scored a perfect 9/9 to win 17th Paleochora International B Group (<1900) 2024. He finished a staggering two points ahead of the competition. Four players - Emma Mkhitaryan (ARM), Dimitrios Nik Papanikolaou (GRE), Panagiotis Charalampos Angelopoulos (GRE) and Theofilos Symeonidis (GRE) scored 7/9 each. They were placed second to fifth respectively according to tie-breaks. Pratik defeated the eventual runner-up, Emma in the seventh round. The total prize fund of the tournament was €7000. The top three prizes were €300, €200 and €100 along with a trophy each. The tournament was organized by Chania Chess Academy, Region of Chania, Municipality of Kandanos-Selino at Paleochora School & Cultural Center of Paleochora in Paleochora, Greece from 20th to 27th July 2024. Pratik finishes two points ahead

Pratik Gengaje won the tournament with a round to spare when he defeated Polizois Ntelis (GRE) in the penultimate round. He went into the final round with a 1.5 lead over the field. In the last round, Pratik defeated Nikiforos Gavrilidis (GRE) to finish a whopping two points ahead of the competition. A little over a week before this, Pratik won a team rapid rating tournament in Ikaria, Greece. IM Aksel Bu Kvaloy (NOR) won the Group A (>1800) event, scoring 7/9. GM Alberto David (ITA) and FM Tom-Frederic Woelk (GER) also scored the same 7/9 each. They secured second and third place respectively.

A total of 139 players took part from 12 countries across the world in this eight-day nine-round Swiss League Rating Open B (<1900) tournament. It was organized by Chania Chess Academy, Region of Chania, Municipality of Kandanos-Selino at Paleochora School & Cultural Center of Paleochora in Paleochora, Greece from 20th to 27th July 2024. The time control of the tournament was 40 moves in 90 minutes + 30 minutes + 30 seconds increment.
