Harikrishnan crosses 2500
GM Stamatis Kourkoulos-Arditis (GRE) was the sole leader 7/8, going into the final round. IM Dragos Ceres (MDA), IM Harikrishnan A Ra, IM Evaggelos Patrelakis (GRE) and Vasileios Koudounis (GRE) were trailing by a half point at 6.5/8 each. Dragos held Stamatis to a draw. Harikrishnan defeated Vasileios to become the champion. Stamatis finished second. Evaggelos won against IM Radoslaw Barski (POL) to finish third.
A total of 177 players including 7 GMs and 6 IMs took part from 21 countries across the world in Group A category. The seven-day nine round Rating tournament was organized by Chania Chess Academy, A C C "Mikis Theodorakis", Region of Chania, Municipality of Chania, Greek Chess Federation at KAM Center of Mediterranean Architecture (Old town Chania) in Chania, Greece from 6th to 12th May 2024. The time control of the event was 90 minutes for 40 moves + 15 minutes for all game + 30 seconds per move from the first move.
