Kaidanov - Karthik
White made a questionable decision to play 20.dxe5? It increased the vulnerability of his king. Karthik correctly executed 20...Ng4 which put in a firm control of the position. 21.Re2 dxe5 22.Rd1 Be6 23.Na5 Qf6 24.Nxc6 Nxf2 and things just went downhill for White afterward.
Karthik converted his advantage into a full point without any difficulty.
GM Harsha Bharathakoti (2563) got outplayed by GM Levan Pantsulaia (GEO, 2564). Thus, they will play tie-breaks tomorrow.
GM Abhimanyu Puranik (2605) defeated GM Luis Fernando Ibarra Chami (MEX, 2448) 2-0 to advance to the next round. Abhimanyu will face the FIDE World Cup 2011 winner, Peter Svidler.
Priyanka - Marina
WGM Priyanka Nutakki (2293) had a commanding position against IM Marina Brunello (ITA, 2324). However, things changed quickly and her opponent, Marina gained control.
44.f6 allowed a nice combination Bxc2+! 45.Kxc2 cxb3+ 46.Kb2 Qxf1 47.fxg7 surprisingly the g7-pawn is unstoppable bxa2 48.g8Q+ Kb7 49.Kxa2 the sharp position created one opportunity for Black. However, she missed it. Priyanka survived by finding a perpetual check.
The highlight of the round 1.2 would be the elimination of GM Anton Demchenko (SLO, 2374) by IM Gianmarco Leiva (PER, 2374).
Gianmarco survived the above position for another 75 moves and then drew his game. He will face UAE no.1 GM Salem Saleh in Round 2.
