Aaryan Varshney wins 2nd SDCA Blitz Rating Open 2024

IM Aaryan Varshney and Dhyey Agarwal scored an unbeaten 7.5/8 each at 2nd SDCA Blitz Rating Open 2024. Aaryan won the tournament on tie-breaks, Dhyey was placed second. Six players - IM Aaditya Dhingra, CM Aansh Nandan Nerurkar, Gopal Krishna Maheshwari, FM Jeet Jain, Arvind Iyer and Kartavya Anadkat scored 7/8 each. They secured third to eighth place respectively according to tie-breaks. The top three finishers remained undefeated. The total prize fund of the tournament was ₹100000. The top three prizes were ₹25000, ₹15000 and ₹10000 along with a trophy each respectively. The one-day blitz rating tournament was organized by Surat District Chess Association on 25th August 2024 at P R Khatiwala Sankul in Surat, Gujarat. Aaryan clinches his ninth tournament of the year

IM Aaryan Varshney made a fantastic start by winning seven games in-a-row. He was the sole leader 7/7 heading into the final round. Dhyey Agarwal, IM Aaditya Dhingra and Hriday Dharmesh Sheth were trailing by a half point at 6.5/7 each. Aaryan drew with the top seed, IM Aaditya Dhingra to become the champion. Aaditya finished third. Dhyey defeated Hriday to secure second place. The 37th National Under-11 Open 2023 champion, CM Aansh Nandan Nerurkar is the youngest top ten finisher of the event. He scored an impressive 7/8 to finish fourth. His sole loss in the penultimate round was against the eventual champion, Aaryan.

A total of 349 players including 2 IMs took part from all over the country in this one-day eight round Blitz Rating Open tournament. It was organized by Surat District Chess Association at P R Khatiwala Vidya Sankul in Surat, Gujarat on 25th August 2024. The time control of the event was 3 minutes + 2 seconds increment per move.
