Aaryan Varshney dominates 1st Dewas Rapid Rating Open 2024
IM Aaryan Varshney scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win 1st Dewas Rapid Rating Open 2024. He finished a half point ahead of the field. CM Madhvendra Pratap Sharma and GM Sriram Jha scored 8/9 each. They secured second and third place respectively according to tie-breaks. The total prize fund was ₹200000. The top three prizes were ₹25000, ₹15000 and ₹10000 along with a trophy each. The two-day nine-round rapid rating tournament was organized by Dewas District Chess Association at San Thome Academy in Dewas, Madhya Pradesh on 16th and 17th November 2024. Aaryan wins his second tournament of the month
IM Aaryan Varshney and CM Madhvendra Pratap Sharma were the coleaders 7.5/8, going into the final round. Aaryan defeated Awadh Chaitanya to become a clear champion. CM Aishwin Daniel drew with Madhvendra. The latter secured second place. Top seed of the tournament, GM Sriram Jha won against Mayur Patil to finish third.
This was the first time in Madhya Pradesh chess history that the entire tournament was officiated by women arbiters. Chief Arbiter - IA Kanchana Choudhary, Deputy Chief Arbiter -FA Nagalakshmi Narapuram, SNA Himani Baja,j SNA Shikha Palta, SNA Pratiksha Pandey and Miss Lashika Deshwali. Mr. IAS Rishav Gupta, IM Akshat Khamparia, Mr.Sunil Thomas, President, San Thome Academy and school, Mr. Pawan Yadav and Dewas District Chess Association, facilitated the possibility of only women officiating the entire tournament.

A total of 321 players including a GM and IM took part from various parts of the country, one from Nepal and two from Sri Lanka in this two-day nine round Rapid Rating Open tournament. It was organized by Dewas District Chess Association at San Thome Academy in Dewas, Madhya Pradesh on 16th and 17th November 2024. The time control of the event was 25 minutes + 10 seconds increment per move.
