The attack that White had started with 16.Bxh6! ideally should have yielded him a full point. In reality, it didn't. 16...Bxf3 Black had to trade the bishop with knight first, else gxh6 runs into Nf6+. 17.gxf3 Qxd4 18.Rad1 Qb6 19.Bg5 Qe6 20.Bxe7 Qxe7 21.Nf6+ gxf6 22.Kh1 Qe6 23.Rg1+ Kh8 24.Rg4 Rg8 25.Rh4+ Kg7 26.Rg1+ Kf8 27.Rxg8+ Kxg8 28.Qh7+ Kf8 29.Qh8+ Ke7 30.Qxa8 Bxf2
Now White needed to exploit Black's weak back-rank 31.Rh8 and make some checkmate threats. Instead, 31.exf6+ Qxf6 removed the shield which was protecting White's vulnerable king too. The complex nature of the position eventually dissipated White's advantage and Black turned things around in his favor to win the game.
