Monaco GP R10: Advantage Goryachkina

Anna Muzychuk held Goryachkina to a draw. Goryachkina takes a full point lead to the final round where she faces Humpy. Pia Cramling held Humpy to a draw. Kosteniuk checkmated Harika and now she is tied at the second place along with Humpy. Lagno made a short draw with Paehtz. Cramling, Harika, Lagno and Anna Muzychuk are tied at the fourth place for now. Gunina broke her losing streak in the tournament by holding Mariya Muzychuk to a draw. Vishy's December #09: A rival and a fan!

Peter Svidler and Vishy Anand have had some great chess duels over the years, yet Svidler considers himself very much a fan of Vishy Anand. Right from the first time they met each other in the ChessBase office in the 90s to the current day when they still fight it out over the board, Svidler has been in awe of Vishy's abilities. In this article, Peter Svidler, an 8-time Russian Champion and a player who has fought at three Candidates events, talks about Vishy - his first meet with Anand, the Indian legend's contribution to the world of chess, what keeps Vishy going even at the age of 50 and more. Jerusalem GP R1.2: So advances, Harikrishna in the tie-breaks with Karjakin

Harikrishna held Karjakin to a draw again in game 2 of round 1. Harikrishna will play tie-break matches against Karjakin on Friday. The fourth leg of the FIDE Grand Prix Series organized by World Chess is currently ongoing at the Notre Dame Center Jerusalem. Yossi Gilad, Head of Engineering at Algorand, opened the round with the first symbolic move. All the return games of the first round at Jerusalem Grand Prix were drawn, except for Wesley So winning against Yu Yangyi. Mariya Muzychuk held Goryachkina to a draw, despite the former having advantage in the opening. Humpy suffered her first loss of the tournament against Paehtz. Thus Goryachkina took a full point sole lead. Harika made a short draw with Lagno. Both Humpy and Harika are now tied at second place. Cramling, Kosteniuk, Lagno and Anna Muzychuk are at tied fourth place. Gunina lost her sixth consecutive game, this time against Dzagnidze. Kosteniuk had a well fought draw with Zhao Xue. Akash soars, Aravindh pulls off a brilliancy

Only four rounds are over at the National Senior Championship 2019 and things already seem to be heating up as out of the nine players who were leading at the end of the third round, only three could maintain their spots. Aravindh Chithambaram, Sandipan Chanda, and Akash G are the current leaders after four rounds with perfect scores of 4.0/4. The National triple-crown winner and defending champion Aravindh played a brilliant game today to beat India's blitz king Laxman Rajaram, while Akash G too grabbed eyeballs by getting the better of Deep Sengupta who is more than a hundred points higher rated than him. IA Amit Sharma wins C S Sharma Memorial Open Rating 2019

Starting out as third seed, IA Amit Sharma scored 6.0/7, remained undefeated, finished a half point ahead of the field to become champion in C S Sharma Memorial Open Rating 2019. Three players finished at 5.5/7. Alok Priyadarshi and Vaibhav Gautam secured second and third position respectively as per their tie-break scores. Stuti Aishwary won the Best Woman prize with a score of 5.5/7. Best Veteran prize went to 62-year-old Bir Singh Raminder who scored 4.0/7. Total 54 players participated in this three-day event, organized by Botwinnik Chess Academy in memory of C S Sharma who established this academy in 1978. For him chess was his first love. Harikrishna holds Karjakin to a draw at Jerusalem GP

The fourth leg of the FIDE Grand Prix Series organized by World Chess started in the Notre Dame Center Jerusalem on December 11. All eight games finished in a draw and all players keep chances to win their matches if the second games have decisive results or go for tie-breaks in case of another draw. After three major tournaments in Moscow, Riga and Hamburg earlier this year, the Grandmasters have arrived in Jerusalem for taking part in the final leg. This part of the Series will determine two participants of the upcoming Candidates 2020. The prize fund in each leg of the Grand Prix amounts to €130000, with an additional €280000 for the top ten finishers in the overall standings. National Senior Championship R02+03: Nine players lead with perfect score

A pack of nine players comprising seven GMs and two IMs is leading the National Senior Championship 2019 with perfect 3.0/3 score after three rounds. The event had double rounds yesterday but the players on the top showed no signs of slowing down and most of them clinched back-to-back victories to maintain their lead. They had a particularly smooth sailing in the second round with all of the first ten games ending in favour of the higher-rated candidates, while in round three IM Nitin S managed to pull off a mild upset by beating GM Visakh NR. S.L. Narayanan wins the 1st Elllobregat Open 2019

The 1st Elllobregat Open 2019 held in Spain from the 3rd to 11th of December 2019 was a very successful one for India. S.L. Narayanan won the championship with a performance of 2712. Polish GM Mateusz Bartel finished second and the young Indian talent Arjun Erigaisi was third. Out of the top ten spots, six went to Indians! A total of 55 Indians played in the A-group and entire contingent gained a whopping 778.6 Elo points. Harshit Raja and Rithvik Raja both scored their maiden GM norms. In the B-group we had Gopal KN who finished first. We bring you a huge final report of the tournament before the focus shifts to the Sunway Sitges Chess Festival beginning from the 13th of December 2019.

Goryachkina scored a victory over Gunina and took sole lead with 6.0/8. Humpy drew her game with Harika and they are now at second and third place with a score of 5.5/8 and 5.0/8 respectively. Cramling recovered against Mariya after making a few mistakes and drew her game eventually in the longest game of the round. Kosteniuk beat Dzagnidze, Anna Muzychuk made a short draw with Elisabeth Paehtz, Kateryna Lagno had a fighting draw with Zhao Xue. Pia Cramling, Alexandra Kosteniuk, Kateryna Lagno and Anna Muzychuk are tied fourth place with a score of 4.5/8 each. Only three rounds left. Stany wins Mandya Chess Academy All India Open Blitz 2019

Karnataka's second GM in history and the top seed of the tournament Stany GA scored 10.0/11 and finished a half point ahead of the runner-up to win Mandya Chess Academy All India Open Blitz 2019. In the last round of the tournament, he beat Karnataka's first GM Thejkumar to clinch the championship. Stany's only blemish of the tournament was suffering a loss in the seventh round of the tournament. IM Nitin S scored 9.5/11 to secure runner-up position. Four players finished at 9.0/11, R Ashwath claimed the third place due to a better tie-break score. Both Goryachkina and Humpy won their respective games against Dzagnidze and Zhao respectively after fighting for over four and a half hours, to stay in the lead with 5.0/7. Meanwhile Harika trails behind the leaders by a half point. She made a short draw with Anna. Round 8 will witness India no.1 Humpy face India no.2 Harika. Pia Cramling, Kateryna Lagno and Anna Muzychuk are tied at the fourth spot with 4.0/7 each. Shaky first day for Abhijeet and Vaibhav

The National Senior Championship 2019 started off yesterday at the Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology in Majitar, Sikkim. It was far from smooth sailing for the top seeds in the first round of the event as players like Ayush Sharma and Sumeet Grover gave their Grandmaster opponents a good run for money. Ayush managed to seize a copious edge against top-seed Abhijeet Gupta, while Sumeet was beating GM Vaibhav Suri pretty one-sidedly. But finally Abhijeet's experience triumphed and Vaibhav managed to wriggle out with a draw. Read our detailed first round report to find out what happened exactly.
