Aditya Vikram Paul wins IM Mix Put Svile 6

14-year-old Aditya Vikram Paul won IM Mix Put Svile 6 with an unbeaten score of 6.5/9 rounds. He defeated a GM and IM, drew with two GMs. The former West Bengal State under-13 champion gained 425 Elo rating points in four tournaments in less than a month, taking his live rating to 2389. This was his debut tour at the European chess circuit. His rating gains in each of the four tournament is 115.6, 59.6, 135.2 and 114.4 respectively. He missed an opportunity to score a norm by a whisker at Round Robin Put Svile 5 IM because he was only concerned about playing a good game and not worried about making a norm.

Five GMs, 13 IMs, two WIMs from India, Canada, Georgia, Sri Lanka and USA have registered for IPS Academy presents 2nd Sultan Khan Cup Online Blitz Open 2021. It will take place this Thursday 26th August from 7:30 p.m. IST at Tornelo. The total prize fund is ₹100,000. The first prize will be ₹20,000. There are 30 main prizes, five prizes for Women and ten for Madhya Pradesh players as well. Total number of prizes is 97. Entry will be FREE for GMs, IMs, WGMs and WIMs. For everyone else, entry fee will be ₹500. Registration is CLOSED. Last date has been extended to Wednesday 25th August 7:30 p.m. IST. Sinquefield Cup R6: Xiong holds So to a draw

Jeffery Xiong continued his good form as he made a draw with one of the tournament leaders, Wesley So. All five games in the sixth round of Sinquefield Cup 2021 ended in draws. Caruana and Vachier-Lagrave had the most exciting encounter of the day. The world no.2 seemed to have a slight edge in the final moments of the endgame, but he decided to exchange pieces and repeat moves to make a draw. Barcelona Open 2021 R1-5: Hakobyan halts the Jeevitesh juggernaut

Fourth seeded GM Aram Hakobyan brought IM Sai Agni Jeevitesh's fantastic momentum to a screeching halt as he beat him in the fifth round to take the sole lead 5.0/5 at Barcelona Open 2021. GMs Karthikeyan Murali and Visakh N R are the only two player who are at a half point behind the leader 4.5/5 each respectively. While Karthikeyan drew with Sethuraman in the fifth round, Visakh beat GM Fernanda Peralta in a very nice finish. Karthikeyan will face Hakobyan today in the sixth round which will probably have huge implications for the championship, Visakh will go against the fierce Alexander Fier. 58-year-old International Arbiter Jayant Kumar Bhuyan walks 50 km to spread Covid awareness

Chess players, enthusiasts spread awareness of the game, sport and some important messages to the society in a variety of ways. 58-year-old International Arbiter and National Instructor Jayant Kumar Bhuyan always takes it upon himself to spread some positive message. This time he decided to walk for 50 km in the neighboring villages of Jamshedpur to make people aware of the Covid-19 pandemic. He distributed hundreds of masks on his way to various villages and spread the awareness of this deadly pandemic, a year after his mother passed away after getting infected by this deadly virus. Almost, two years ago Bhuyan had cycled about 68 km to officiate a tournament while spreading the awareness of saving fossil fuel and curb pollution. Bhuyan is truly a warrior we all need.

FIDE Online Olympiad 2021 Day 3: Nepal, Hong Kong and Lebanon advance

A total of 16 teams advanced to Division 3 at the conclusion of the third day of FIDE Online Olympiad 2021. Nepal, Hong Kong and Lebanon are the three Asian teams out of them. Hong Kong won the Pool A with a score of 20.0/22, Nepal finished second 18.0/22 and Lebanon was placed third 17.0/22. 12-year-old Feng Eunice was the star performer of Hong Kong as he scored a perfect 11.0/11. Kenya, Namibia, Palestine, Angola, Cyprus, Ethiopia, Suriname, Aruba, Ghana, Puerto Rico, Trinidad & Tobago, Haiti and Malawi are the remaining 13 teams to advance to Division 3. ChessBase India YouTube Membership Update for July 2021

July was a wonderful month in terms of support for our chess players by the ChessBase India YouTube community. We raised Rs.1,19,799 for little Ilamparthi's travel fund to tournaments in the near future. A kind individual named Krunal Parmar contributed Rs.85,000 and gifted Ilamparthi a laptop so that he could continue his training. The YouTube membership support has been a massive boost for the recepients - Pranav gained 123 Elo points and has reached 2489 on the Elo scale, Savitha Shri has become the National Junior champion and made a spot for herself in the Indian Olympiad team. Together we are making a big difference! 

FIDE Online Olympiad 2021: Everything on the line after Day 2

Sixty federation teams battled it out today on Chess.com's online servers for the sixteen qualification spots that advance to the next stage of the Olympiad. Pool A started very early - 0800 UTC (1:30 p.m. IST) and Pool E closed the playing day at 20.00 UTC (1:30 a.m. IST), for more than twelve hours of official online chess: rounds 4-7 are now in the books! Nepal, Hong Kong and Lebanon in Pool A; Malawi, Kenya and Palestine in Pool B; Cyprus, Angola and Jersey in Pool C; Aruba, Suriname and Ghana in Pool D; Trinidad & Tobago, Puerto Rico and Haiti in Pool E are the respective leaders of their Pool at the conclusion of Day 2. Sinquefield Cup R5: Xiong stuns Caruana

Jeffery Xiong scored the biggest win of the round as he beat Caruana for the first time in his career in the fifth round of Sinquefield Cup 2021. He has beaten Carlsen last year in Clutch Rapid but never beat Caruana until yesterday. Vachier-Lagrave was the only other victor of the day as he handed Swiercz his fourth loss of the event. Mamedyarov-Leinier, Svidler-Shankland and So-Rapport ended in draws. So, Vachier-Lagrave and Leinier share a three-way lead 3.5/5 in the final and what is turning out to be the most interesting leg of the Grand Chess Tour 2021. Today is the sole rest day of the event. FIDE Online Olympiad starts off with 400+ games on Day 1

FIDE Online Olympiad started on Friday 20th August at Chess.com’s online servers. A total of 153 teams from all over the world have signed up for the event, meaning that more than 1000 players will participate over the next three weeks. The tournament is structured in two stages: the “Divisions stage”, in which teams are seeded into each Round-Robin Pool, based on their previous results at the OTB Batumi Chess Olympiad in 2018 and in the last year’s Online Olympiad. Sinquefield Cup R4: Leinier scores a magnificent win over MVL

Leinier Dominguez Perez scored his second victory of the event, against one of the tournament leaders - Maxime Vachier-Lagrave in the fourth round of Sinquefield Cup 2021. The American's win is definitely a strong contender for the brilliancy prize worth US$ 5000. Svidler's woes continued as he lost his third game of the event, this time against Rapport who employed his trusty secret weapon 1.g3. Shankland and Swiercz scored their first victory of the event against Mamedyarov and Xiong respectively. So and Caruana drew their games against each other. Wesley So scored his second consecutive victory of the event to share the lead with Caruana and Vachier-Lagrave in Sinquefield Cup 2021. All three of them are at 2.5/3. So completely outplayed Svidler in the middlegame and finished the game in 28 moves. Mamedyarov scored his first win of the tournament in an exciting encounter against Rapport. Shankland made a rare blunder against Vachier-Lagrave in the seemingly equal knight endgame. Caruana scored a comfortable victory over Swiercz who suffered his third consecutive loss. Institute of Neurosciences Kolkata celebrate 75th Independence Day in ChessBase India t-shirts

Chess is more than just a sport. It is not only about ratings, titles, championships, medals and statistics, it's much more than that. This past Sunday, on the occasion of India's 75th Independence Day, Institute of Neurosciences Kolkata organized a chess tournament which was participated by the hospital's doctor, nurse, pathologist, administrative departments, maintenance, security staff and more. It was the brainchild of Dr. Hrishikesh Kumar, Head of Neurology and Vice-Chairman of the hospital. Being a keen chess lover, he decided to celebrate the special day by organizing a chess tournament and invited to stalwarts of the country GM Dibyendu Barua and GM Sandipan Chanda. All participants and officials wore the ChessBase India t-shirts of different variants and colors!
