Vaishali triumphs at 8th Fischer Memorial 2022, scores her second GM-norm

IM Vaishali R scored 7.0/9 to win 8th Fischer Memorial, Heraklion GM Round Robin Tournament. Both her and FM Yoav Milikow (ISR) scored the same points. However, Vaishali beat the teenager in the fifth round, which decided the tie-breaks. The most important part is Vaishali scored her second GM-norm and took her live rating to 2430.4. She is now final GM-norm and 69.6 Elo rating away from becoming India's third woman ever to become a GM after Humpy and Harika. Among the top Indian women, IM Padmini Rout and IM Tania Sachdev are the only two who have a GM-norm each. Arjun Erigaisi scored a fiery win against Alexei Shirov (ESP) in the first round of TePe Sigeman & Co Tournament 2022. This win moved him three places up in the live ratings. Thus he is now World no.58. Salem Saleh (UAE) was the only other victor of the round. He defeated Czech Republic no.1 David Navara in his typical fashion of a great display of attack. Arjun will face the UAE no.1 in the second round. Hans Niemann (USA) and Nils Grandelius (SWE) drew with Michael Adams (ENG) and defending champion Jorden van Foreest (NED) respectively. Swara Lakshmi S Nair clinches 7th ICA Below 1700 Rating Chess Tournament 2022

15-year-old Swara Lakshmi S Nair scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win 7th ICA Below 1700 Rating Chess Tournament 2022. It is certainly an amazing feat because a female player winning an open event is not a common occurrence. She finished a half point ahead of the competition. Mrityunjay Kumar and Adithya A Chullikad scored 8.0/9 each. They were placed second and third respectively according to tie-breaks. Swara won ₹50000 cash and trophy, Runner-up Mrityunjay got ₹40000 and Second Runner-up Adithya earned ₹25000 cash each as their prize. Total prize fund of the tournament was ₹599000. IM Anuj Shrivatri and Pradeep Pathak scored 8.0/9 each. Anuj won C3 Chess Cup Rapid Rating Open 2022 due to better tie-break score. He also remained undefeated. FM Aaryan Varshney scored sole 7.5/9. Anuj won ₹20000, Runner-up Pradeep earned ₹15000 and Second Runner-up Aryan got ₹10000 cash respectively along with a trophy each as their prize. AICF announces biggest-ever Indian squad for 44th Chess Olympiad

AICF has announced the biggest squad of Indian team for the upcoming 44th FIDE Olympiad 2022. Vishy Anand has been named as the mentor for all four Indian teams. India's third GM in history, Pravin Thipsay will be the Head of the Delegation. GM Srinath Narayanan, GM R B Ramesh, GM Abhijit Kunte and GM Swapnil Dhopade are the coaches. Aravindh Chithambaram successfully retains his National Blitz Chess Championship

GM Aravindh Chithambaram (TN, 2561) successfully defended his National Blitz title. GM Mitrabha Guha (WB, 2468) was that much close to the finish line. He was a full point ahead 8.5/9, heading into the final two rounds. Two consecutive losses again the eventual runner-up GM Karthik Venkataraman (AP, 2362) and the winner Aravindh, cost him the championship. Even a draw in the final round would have also been enough for him to win the tournament. In a dramatic turn of events, both top two boards of the Open section ended in draw. Vivaan Vishal Shah (GUJ) and Madhvendra Pratap Sharma (MP) both ended up with 9.0/11. However, Vivaan won the MPL 34th National Under-10 Open Chess Championship 2022 due to better tie-breaks. Madhvendra was placed second. Four players scored 8.5/11. Aansh Nandan Nerurkar (MAH) was adjudged third on tie-breaks. Karnataka's Charvi A won MPL 34th National Under-10 Girls Chess Championship 2022 with a round to go. She is now at an unbeaten 9.5/10. Her statemate Aadya Ranganath is the only one closest to her 8.0/10. However, she cannot catch up to her mathematically. In the Open section, Madhvendra Pratap Sharma (MP) extended his sole lead by a full point 8.5/9 heading into the final round. Second seed of the tournament, Vivaan Vishal Shah (GUJ) handed Madhvendra his first loss of the event and kept things exciting for the title fray. Both Vivaan and Madhvendra are now at 8.5/10, followed by Aansh Nandan Nerurkar (MAH), Shaashvat Gupta (MAH) and Krishay Jain (WB) at 8.0/10 each. Final Round 11 starts today at 8:30 a.m. IST. Aravindh Chithambaram becomes the MPL National Rapid Champion 2022

GM Aravindh Chithambaram (TN, 2572) successfully retained his National Rapid title. This is his second National Rapid triumph after 2019. He has only played three of them. So two triumphs out of three is certainly a fantastic endeavor for Aravindh. He has also qualified for the World Rapid 2022 which will take place later this year. Aravindh scored an unbeaten 8.0/9 and finished a half point ahead of the competition. GM Deepan Chakkravarthy (RSPB, 2474) and IM Raahul V S (TN, 2177) scored 7.5/9 each. Three players scored 10.5/13 - IM Ravi Teja S, Bharat Kumar Reddy Poluri and Ashwath S. They were placed second to fourth according to the tie-breaks. Karnataka's Charvi A won both of her games against her state-mates Siddhi Rao and Krupha S Ukkali in Round 7 and 8 respectively. She has now gained sole lead 7.5/8 at MPL 34th National Under-10 Girls Chess Championship 2022. Hanya Shah (GUJ) and Tanusri S (Tamil Nadu) are the only ones closest to her at 6.5/8 each. In the Open section, Madhvendra Pratap Sharma (MP) defeated Yug Tarun Khiani (KAR) in Round 7 and drew with Aansh Nandan Nerurkar (MAH) in Round 8. MPL 34th National U-10 R5-6: Madhvendra Pratap Sharma scores a double hat-trick, gains sole lead

Madhvendra Pratap Sharma (MP) bested two challenges from West Bengal - Parambrata Sarkar and Mayukh Majumder in Round 5 and 6 respectively. He scored convincing victories in both games to gain sole lead 6.0/6 at MPL 34th National Under-10 Open Chess Championship 2022. 157th seeded Yug Tarun Khiani (KAR) continues his impressive run. He is the only player at a half point behind the leader 5.5/6. Among the Girls, Maitreyi Mondal (WB) beat Siddhi Rao (KAR) to take sole lead 5.0/5.
