Asian Continental 2022 R7: Praggnanandhaa grinds a 137-move marathon over six hours

When someone plays against the world champion and beats him multiple times, something is bound to rub off him. R Praggnanandhaa has assimilated Carlsen's style of grinding in the endgame. Having a tiny spec of practical chances meant Pragg will push. That's what he did and eventually his opponent, GM Karthikeyan Murali crumbled after fatigue set in due to the course of over six hours of play and 137 moves long mentally and physically exhausting battle. GM Aravindh Chithambaram tried too hard to score a win against IM Koustav Chatterjee and it cost him dearly. Harsha, Praggnanandhaa, Shamsiddin Vokhidov (UZB) and Koustav are the four leaders 5.5/7. MPL 35th National U-11 Round 4-6: Nivedita takes a full point lead

After 6 rounds of play, Nivedita VC is leading the National U-11 girls championship with a perfect 6/6, a full point ahead of the competition. Below her, there are 6 players tied on 5/6. The situation in the top has not yet clarified in the Open section - after Round 6, as many as 7 players are leading the event with the same score. Sasikiran wins 8th Liffre Open 2022, Sayantan Das third

GM Krishnan Sasikiran won his second Classical tournament of the year at 8th Liffre Open 2022. He scored an unbeaten 7.5/9 and finished a half point ahead of the field. GM Momchil Nikolov (BUL) scored sole 7/9 to finish second. IM Sayantan Das scored 6.5/9 to secure third place without the need of tie-breaks. The total prize fund was €5070 combining both categories. The top three prizes were €1000 and a trophy, €800 and €600 each respectively. Asian Continental 2022 R6: Nandhidhaa gains sole lead, Harsha remains the frontrunner

GM Harsha Bharathakoti drew with the top seed GM R Praggnanandhaa to maintain his sole lead 5/6. He is followed by eleven players at 4.5/6. GM S L Narayanan, GM Aravindh Chithambaram, IM Saparmyrat Atabayev (TKM) and IM Koustav Chatterjee won their respective games to reduce the gap. In the Women's event, WGM Nandhidhaa P V defeated her coleader WGM Priyanka Nutakki to gain sole lead 5.5/6. Nandhidhaa is now full point ahead of Priyanka and IM Padmini Rout. Narayanan - Harsha and Nandhidhaa - Padmini are the top board matches in Round 7. Astounding Pranav Venkatesh wins Challengers Final Four and Challengers Chess Tour 2022

GM Pranav Venkatesh is quite familiar with balancing two events simultaneously having different formats. He won an individual Gold medal on Board no.1 for India at World Youth Under-16 Olympiad earlier this month. He also won the Magnus Academy Challenge at the same time. The 15-year-old boy is curently playing at the Asian Continental Championship 2022. However, he also managed to win the Challengers Final Four beating Andrey Esipenko 2.5-1.5 in the Semifinals and Raunak Sadhwani 3-0 in the Finals to win the entire Challengers Chess Tour 2022. Women's Candidates 2022-23 Pool A QF: Anna Muzychuk advances to the Semifinals

Anna Muzychuk (UKR) defeated Koneru Humpy to advance to the Semifinals of Women's Candidates 2022-23 Pool A. After a draw in the first two games, Anna had decisive advantage in the third tie-break, first Blitz game. She missed her opportunity and Humpy forced a draw by perpetual check. In the fourth game, the India no.1 and World no.3 made a simple one move blunder which cost her the game. Anna will face Lei Tingjei (CHN) in the Semifinals. Speed King Hikaru Nakamura becomes World Fischer Random Champion

The Speed King has finally done it. He earned the ever-alluring World title. If anyone in the current day top player who has not a won world title yet, deserves one, Hikaru Nakamura's name will be the first one in the list. The man who had to prove himself by qualifying through hours of grueling battle on lichess, defeated the hand-picked Wildcard Ian Nepomniachtchi in the Finals. He won the Armageddon to become the World Fischer Random champion. 50 years later after the Fischer-Spassky match, history repeated as an American defeated a Russian to become a World Champion for the very first time at the same place - Reykjavik, Iceland. MPL 35th National U-11 Round 1-3: Swaraj and Sagnik score big upsets

The MPL 35th National Under-11 Open and Girls Championship is taking place in Gurugram, Haryana. A total of 25 players have scored a perfect 3/3 so far in the Open section, and 8 players in the Girls section. The top seed in the Open section is FM Rosh Jain (2333), and in the girls section it is Prishita Gupta (1556). The World Cadets 2022 U-8 Girls Champion Charvi A is the only female player who is playing in the Open section! GM Harsha Bharathakoti defeated IM Koustav Chatterjee convincingly to gain sole lead 4.5/5. Seven GMs are trailing him by a half point. He surprised his opponent with Scotch opening in the fifth round of Asian Continental Chess Championship 2022. The 24th HZ University Open winner will face the top seed, GM Praggnanandhaa in the sixth round. In the Women's event, both WGM Nandhidhaa P V and WGM Priyanka Nutakki scored emphatic victories over WGM Thi Kim Phung Vo (VIE) and IM Soumya Swaminathan respectively to become coleaders 4.5/5. The Chess Houseboat event returns!

The much anticipated Chess Houseboat event returns to the tourist-friendly exotic south Indian state of Kerala again, after the inaugural event in 2020. The second edition of the event has been scheduled to be held between 22nd to 28th Jan 2023, with a total cash prize fund of 2300 Euros with a first prize of 500 Euros, and a further 1700 Euros worth of material prizes and trophies. It will include a nine round Rapid chess tournament spread across five days with a time control of G20+5 and a single day Blitz tournament.

Women's Candidates 2022-23 Pool A QF: Anna Muzychuk forces tie-breaks

Anna Muzychuk (UKR) won the must-win fourth game of FIDE Women's Candidates 2022-23 Pool A Quarterfnals. She will now play tie-breaks today against Koneru Humpy. Mariya Muzychuk (UKR) drew with Lei Tingjie (CHN) which means the latter advanced to the Semifinals where she will face the winner of the Anna-Humpy tie-breaks. The Quarterfinal tie-breaks consist of four Rapid games of 15 mins + 10 seconds increment. If needed, there will be Blitz games to decide the second Semifinalist.
