Vergani Cup 2022 R5: Prraneeth Vuppala beats Hans Niemann

Vitaliy Bernadskiy (UKR) has taken sole lead 4.5/5 at the conclusion of the fifth round of the Vergani Cup January 2022. Ten players including three Indians are in the chase at 4.0/5 each. They are - GM Lalit Rohit, IM Bharath Subramaniyam and CM Prraneeth Vuppala. 14-year-old Prraneeth is in terrific form as he drew the morning round on the fourth day against GM Arjun Kalyan and defeated GM Hans Niemann (USA) by punishing his minute mistake correctly in the fifth round. Bernadskiy in sole lead

In Round 4, IM Moksh Amit Doshi, FM Mohamed Anees M and Ojas Kulkarni drew with GM Zdenko Kozul (CRO), IM Pranesh M and IM Hampus Sorensen (SWE) respectively. In Round 5, Anees drew with GM Ivajlo Enchev (BUL).

Round 5: Prraneeth - Hans: 1-0

CM Prraneeth Vuppal drew the morning round 4 game against GM Arjun Kalyan. In the fifth round, he was paired against GM Hans Niemann (USA).

The tournament is taking place at Hotel Kursaal, Cattolica in Italy from 2nd to 9th January 2021. Time control is 90 mins + 30 seconds increment and 15 minutes each will be added after 40th move in Group A which is for above 1800 FIDE rating.
