Shayan Noushad Ibrahim clinches Gold at World Cadet Rapid U-8 Open, Bronze for Sharvaanica among Girls

Muhammad Shayan Noushad Ibrahim scored 10/11 to clinch Gold at World Cadet Rapid Under-8 Open. He finished a staggering 1.5 points ahead of the field. Louis Cheng (SCO) scored 8.5/11 to secure Silver. Nhat Khuong Nguyen (VIE) and Timofey Dm Babkin scored 8/11 each. Nhat won Bronze medal due to better tie-breaks. Sharvaanica A S scored 8/11 to secure a Bronze medal in Under-8 Girls Rapid. Top seed Bodhana Sivanandan (ENG) scored a perfect 11/11 to win Gold. Mumtozbegim Sobirova (UZB) edged past Sharvaanica on tie-breaks to claim Silver medal. Sharvaanica finished fourth in the Under-8 Girls Blitz event scoring 7/11. Gold and Bronze for India in Under-8 Rapid

Muhammad Shayan Noushad Ibrahim made his tournament debut in September 2022. He has already played 47 tournaments so far and won one before becoming World Rapid Under-8 Open champion. Shaarvanica is the triple Gold medalist at Asian Schools Under-7 Girls Classical, Rapid and Blitz Championships 2022, National Under-7 Girls and National Schools Under-7 Girls 2022 champion.

A total of 62 players from 20 countries across the world in the Rapid Under-8 Open, 20 players from 8 countries in the Under-8 Girls and for Blitz 17 players from 8 countries in the Under-8 Girls category participated. The tournament was organized by FIDE and Georgian Chess Federation at Hotel Complex Euphoria in Batumi, Georgia from 6th to 8th June 2023. The time control for the event was 15 minutes + 5 seconds increment for Rapid and 5 minutes + 3 seconds increment in Blitz.
