Devanarayanan Kalliyath and Aaranya R are 37th National Under-7 Open and Girls 2024 Champions

Devanarayanan Kalliyath (KER) scored a perfect 9/9 to win 37th National Under-7 Open Championship 2024. He finished a full point ahead of the field. Prayank Gaonkar (Goa) scored sole 8/9 to finish second. Aaradhyo Guin (WB) edged past two more players on tie-breaks to secure third place scoring 7.5/9. Top seed Aaranya R (TN) and second seeded, Arpitangshi Bhattacharya (WB) scored 8/9 each in the Girls event. Aaranya won the tournament due to better tie-break score. Arpitangshi had to settle for second place. Saiaastha Singh (WB) scored sole 7.5/9 to claim third place. The total prize fund combining Open and Girls section was ₹500000. Devanarayanan finish a full point ahead of the rest, West Bengal dominates the podium

For the second consecutive year, the National Under-7 Open champion scored 100%. Just like, Sarbartho Mani (WB) scored 9/9 last year, this time, Devanarayanan Kalliyath (KER) scored the same 9/9 to become the winner. West Bengal claimed the maximum number of podium places - three, combining Open and Girls events, one in Open and two in Girls.

Devanarayanan was the sole leader 8/8, going into the final round. Despite needing only a draw to become the champion, the Kerala kid defeated Dhinesh Babu Inba (TN) to clinch the first place. Prayank Gaonkar (Goa) and Aaradhyo Guin (WB) scored full points against Kavin Velavan (TN) and Ayansh Singh (UP) to finish second and third.

Champion in Girls - Aaranya R (TN) 8/9

The Girls event had a close finish. Five players - Shreyanshi Jain (RAJ), Poushita Paliwal (RAJ), Aaranya R (TN), Arpitangshi Bhattacharya (WB) and Anvi Deepak Hinge (MAH) were at 7/8 each. Aaranya and Arpitangshi won against Anvi and Poushita to finish first and second respectively. Saiaastha Singh (WB) scored full point over Shreyanshi Jain (RAJ) to finish third.

Aaranya R score 8/9 and won the tournament on tie-breaks

A total of 232 players in the Open and 147 in the Girls took part from 29 states and union territories across the country in this five-day nine round Swiss-league Under-7 Rating tournament which was organized by MM Chess Development Trust at Sambrama Convention Hall in Mysuru, Karnataka from 1st and 5th September 2024. The time control of the event was 90 minutes + 30 seconds increment from move no.1.
