49th National Women 2023 R5: Seven in the lead
WGM Srija Seshadri (TN) held the top seed and defending champion IM Divya Deshmukh (MAH) to a draw. After two long victories, Divya gained an exchange against Srija in the fifth round. However, she was unable to convert her advantage into a full point. Srija found a combination which forced a perpetual check. Thus a draw was agreed. The other two leaders of the round, WIM Mounika Akshaya Bommini (AP) and WIM Mahalakshmi M (RSPB) had a well contested draw. Untitled Rebecca Jesumarian (TN) capitalized on her opponent WIM Isha Sharma's (KAR) blunder to register a win.

IM Divya Deshmukh (MAH, 2389) gained an exchange. However, she could not manage to convert her advantage. Eventually, WGM Srija Seshadri (TN, 2226) was presented an opportunity to force a draw 39.Qxf4 Rxf4 and draw was agreed due to 40.Re8+ Kh7 41.Bg8+ perpetual check.
A total of 156 players including 6 IMs, 6 WGMs and 10 WIMs are taking part from various states and units across the country in this eleven-day eleven-round Swiss League National Women Rating tournament. The tournament is organized by Gujarat State Chess Association at Rajpath Club in Ahmedabad, Gujarat from 30th June to 10th July 2023. The time control of the event is 90 mins/40 moves + 30 mins/end + 30 seconds increment from move no. 1.
